Chapter 1 A twist in the tale
Every morning it is the same.
The anxiety... will I see her today?
The relief, as she gets into the metro and settles in her usual spot,
by the corner, her head buried in a book.
Always, stealing quick glances in between.
Today, he wanted to know.
Does she even know how much he looks forward to seeing her?
He quickly moves behind her, making sure he was out of sight.
She begins to search for him, turns slightly, trying to be casual.
Her eyes sparkle, like always, when they see him.
This time lingering over his new attire, his army uniform.
Her smile holds a mix of pride and sadness.
Her mobile rings; he hears every word, due to their close proximity.
Someone was congratulating her for getting a placement abroad.
He gives a slight nod, and smiles back at her.
But still gives the rose he kept hidden in his pocket.
His heart warms as he watches her secure it between the pages of her book.
As she gets off, she turns around and waves back at him.
Is it a goodbye or a promise to meet again?
