Blurb "The DNA confirmed Jimmy to be your son, but for Tommy, am sorry, he is not yours." The voice of the physician that just performed the test on me boomed in the closed office. "What?" Alex asked with a shocking gaze, smirked, and asked after. "You mean only one among the twins is mine?" "Yes," the physician answered back. "It's a rare occurrence, but it sometimes happens when a woman-" I couldn't hear the rest of the doctor's speech, as at that moment, my eyes clouded and my feet gave way, and a torrent of tears flowed down my swollen face. "You mean she consummate with another man, minute after laying with me?" Alex's words sink into my heart like a hot knife sliding into butter, and I wish the ground would just open and swallow me up, instead of the shame and distress awaiting me. Despite the heaviness of my lips, and the unwillingness of my throat to produce a sound, I force myself and asked. "How is that possible? Only Alex had laid with me!" "Am sorry madam, but our test shows that only one among the twins belongs to sir Alex!" At that moment, I relinquished the tenacity to live, and death seemed more palatable to me. The sudden darkness that engulfed my whole being is expected, and I slumped and fainted. The last words I can hear from Alex, as the unconsciousness became absolute were. "I hate you Mirable, but I want you to live and witness the torture that I have in mind for you."

Chapter 1 WHATEVER A BABY WANT

Writers pov

She was a nineteen years old lady, who believe that whatever a baby want, a baby must work for it. But her belief was shaken when her mother fell sick, and a million dollars is needed for a kidney transplant.

Poor Mirabel had to run helter-skelter to save the only living family she have, after losing her father in the war when she was just five.

A friend in need is a friend indeed, all her friends and neighbors have little or nothing to offer, but who can blame them?

They all live from hand to mouth, in truth, a bird of a kind, flock together!

Raising a million dollars is practically impossible for a locality where a family of four live below one dollar per day.

Oregon City is indeed a rich state, with human and natural resources. Unfortunately, the city is only developing but not growing, as the rich keep getting richer and the poor poorer.

A few hours earlier, Mirabel was seen in a white-painted office that seemed to belong to a physician, because of the gadgets seen.

Dressed in a blue frolic gown that enhanced her beauty, she was seen sweating, despite the breeze from the air conditioners stationed at every strategic place.

"Am sorry Mirabel, but there is nothing we can do without a million dollars." The resident doctor that was in charge of my mother's case let out.

"Where on earth am I supposed to see such amount?" I screamed back in tears.

"Your mother's two kidneys are rotten, and they need to be operated on, then replaced with at least one functioning one."

"Her kidney? Oh my goodness. Why Oh God why?"

"You are lucky there are two kidneys available for sell, and I can only delay till nightfall."

"For a million dollars?"

"That's for the deposit, you may need to pay more at due time. Remember, we will be bringing specialists from different states around the world."

"Please save my mother, I beg you." I cried out, held the doctor's flowing white gown, and looked pleadingly at his sympathetic face, as my tears flowed down my cheeks and soon got soaked in the collar of my frolic blue gown.

"There is little I can do to save your mother, and her condition is becoming more critical every minute. Please rally around and raise the money today."

"Please can you start treating her while I run around?"

"We can only sustain her on oxygen and do all we can to make her stay alive till nightfall, but I'm not guaranteeing her living after tonight."

I quickly clean my tears with the back of my palms and walked out of the white-painted office.

Outside the hospital, I flagged down a taxi, hopped inside, and buried my face in my hand as I was driven to my residence.

Tall and beautiful houses were seen on both sides of the road as I peeked out of the taxi, and I mumbled to myself. "I will own a house here, one day."

While the rich populated the upside of Oregon city, the poor were seen on the lower side, and the difference between the two areas is not only in location but in almost everything that differentiates a rich man from a poor man.

Good road, clean environment, beautiful houses, and exotic cars, that's upper Oregon for you, and in lower Oregon, the opposite is the case.

The sudden development that had sprung up, at the discovery of crude oil on the land was only centered in upper Oregon, while those on the lower side of the city were left to live in shackles of lack and sickness.

Except for my mother's sickness which prompt my constant visitation to this place, all my life jas been spent on the lower side of the city, and we have all grown tick hair to the flies and blocked noses to the unbearable smell that emits from the lagoon that served as our toilet spot.

"Go to upper Oregon and solicit for help."

My only friend, Mirinda let out, when I told her of the result of the test just concluded on my mother, and the price of the operation needed to save her.

"I can't beg, my ego won't permit me to," I answered back with a puzzling gaze.

"In this case, you will keep our ego aside and do all you can to save your mother."

"We can't stay on the roadside and beg, I have no one there."

"I have heard of a philanthropist, maybe he will help us."

"Did you know the address?" I asked. The thought that I will have to beg to save my mother nauseate me, but not as nauseating as the thought of losing her forever.

That's unbearable, my pride and ego can stay for now.

"No, but I knew his place, it was shown to me by my friend, his father walked with him."

"Did you think he will help me?"

"It worth a trial, I heard he had been helping the sick, the disable, and the bereaved."

"Have never heard of him," I muttered back.

"Alex foundation, he is popular among us, as he is the only rich man that sympathizes and tried to associate with the poor."

"Alex foundation?"

"Yes, a taxi will take you to his place."

"You won't go with me?"

"No, I need to resume at work, am on nightshift."

I watched Miranda as she walked to her working place.

knowing it was the money from her employer that is feeding her parent and two younger ones and since I have no work for her if she loses the one at hand, I have no choice but to watch her go.

Having no other alternative, I quickly clean the tears gathering on my face and decide to give her suggestion a try.

Did I have any choice?

I stepped onto the main road, flagged down a taxi, hopped inside, and pray to be favored as I stepped into the presence of sir Alex.
