BRUSSELS, BELGIUM
A smile graced the lips of Lillian Beatrice, who was excited about her wedding. Between her breaks, she took the time to write a list of names of hotel colleagues she would invite to her wedding; her childhood dream was gradually achieved, from working to planning to get married at one of the five-star Hurwizt hotels in the center of Brussels.
"Lily, don't you want to go to the cafeteria?" said Delia, one of the sales marketers who was good friends with her.
"Thank you Delia. I had breakfast this morning, I think I need to diet a bit before my wedding," Lily replied with a small smile.
"You still want to diet? Your body is already quite thin, Lily; think of Matthew, who will be confused about which part to hold during your first night," Delia said so spontaneously. Delia was famous for her words, which were rarely thought about. "You should get your two breasts enlarged; I have a trusted Doctor if you want," she continued with a wink before leaving quickly when she got a glare from Lily.
Lilly simply exhaled her breath. Slightly stretching her hands in the air, it had been almost three years that she had been working in one of Hurwizt's hotels as a financial manager. A lot of bitterness had kept her afloat to accumulate the savings for her wedding.
But a little oddity that he experienced in recent days. For almost three days, her fiancé Matthew hadn't heard from her. Usually, he would send a message or make a short video call to let her know. Lilly knew that lately, Matthew had been busy with his work as an architect; even last week, Matthew had to fly to Bogotá.
Lilly kept sending messages to Matthew. Her calls weren't picked up either, and Lilly just hoped that she would hear from Matthew today.
"Baby. Are you okay? Why is it so hard to reach you?"
Lilly typed another message and sent it to Matthew's number. Seeing all the messages, I only checked one, and a few minutes later, all the messages changed to read.
"I'm sorry, Love. I'm a little busy, I'll call you when I'm free. I love you Lilly."
Lilly smiled, her eyes twinkling as Matthew texted her back. Her hesitation was gone instantly; she felt calmer and would always trust that Matthew would love her.
"I love you more, Matt!"
That text message was all Lilly got back. She put her phone back away when a woman 17 years her senior, Monica, was the Manager entrusted with the Hurwitz Hotel.
"Lilly, are you busy?" Monica asked with a flat face. Blood red lipstick with a face so cold that it didn't show the slightest bit of friendliness.
"No, Miss. Is there anything you need?" replied Lilly, standing tall with her head slightly bowed.
"Then I hope you can stay late tonight. I need you to re-record the financial receipts, I want it done by tomorrow morning. Can you do it, Lilly?"
"Sorry Miss. But didn't I submit the report two weeks ago?"
"That's right. But the report was lost, and it's also good if you go back to re-record it," Monica replied with a look that seemed to be holding back her emotions.
"Alright Miss. Monica, I will re-record and submit the report immediately the next morning."
It was difficult for Lilly to catch up with the financial report again. It didn't take much time; she didn't even move from her chair. Just enjoying a slice of bread with warm coffee given by Delia, time continued to pass, and the clock changed as her friends went home individually. Including Delia, who grumbled in annoyance when Lilly said she would be working late tonight. It was just her; there was no fear in Lilly; she was just afraid that the numbers on the computer screen would change from the actual data.
Several computers had shut down, and only hers was still on. Lilly massaged the bridge of her nose; the financial data was almost 100% complete. She just needed to print it out and put it into a folder she would keep on Monica's desk.
Her hazel eyes glanced at the small diamond ring on her ring finger. Matthew gave her the ring when he proposed to her late last year, just in time for Christmas. Lilly still couldn't believe that she would be loved so sincerely like this; since she was a little girl, there was no love that Lilly had ever gotten. Her father was drunk and also had an affair; her mother kept getting beaten until the woman got sick and then chose to die at a young age. Since then, Lilly has survived by working hard; she also went to school with the money from her part-time job. All things Lilly did independently until finally, she met Matthew, a man who taught her the meaning of Love and made her believe in married life again.
Matthew gave her many sweet things, although not material, but sincerity and affection that she never got from her father.
Lilly finished her work at precisely nine in the evening. She had to wait a long time for a taxi, and finally, one pulled up right in front of her. She leaned back with her eyes closed as the cab left the Hurwitz Hotel. This grueling job has always made Jenifer excited. It wasn't just the high salary, but also the comfortable place, even though Monica sometimes annoyed her.
"Thank you." Lilly held out a few bills according to the taxi fare.
She exited the car and looked at the dream apartment she bought a year ago. She and Matthew would live in this apartment after they got married. Lilly entered the particular number combination for their anniversary. The click of the door signaled that it was open, and a dark room greeted her arrival.
The sophisticated sensor lights instantly provided light as Lilly's footsteps went deeper. The neatly organized room and the all-new furniture made her smile even more.
She immediately stepped into the main room. No! More precisely, her room and Matthew's room because this small apartment only had two rooms, one of which was used as their room while the other was used as a walk-in closet for the two of them.
Lilly entered the bathroom and removed all the clothes attached to her body. Standing under the showerhead, she wet the entire body surface without missing a beat.
"You should be here, Matt; I'm using the new soap." Lilly chuckled, imagining the naughty activities that had happened to her after they had gotten married.
This was what Lilly liked about Matthew. The man never demanded sex. Since where Lilly said she would only have sex after marriage. Matthew always cared for her and never asked for more than a small kiss.
After cleaning her entire body, Lilly walked to the refrigerator and grabbed some groceries. She would only eat salad and beef cutlets for protein for the next few days. At least, what she is doing right now is keeping her body in a portion that fits the size of her wedding dress.
