I placed Rose onto the hospital bed whilst Doctor Richards busied himself with machines and monitors.  The rational side of me knew that she wasn't badly hurt, but the other side of me was a nervous wreck.  She was my gift from the Moon Goddess and she was hurt.  I watched as the bruise around her eye went from a dark purple to an inky black.  Her physical pain was causing me mental anguish.  She looked so fragile and small in the hospital bed.

The good doctor pulled up each of her eyelids to check for concussion and that's when I noticed that the white of her injured eye was completely crimson.

"Subconjunctival haemorrhage"  He commented.  My anxiety levels shot through the roof before he explained further "Burst blood vessel to you."  The relief that it was nothing more serious almost caused me to black out.

"She's got a nasty concussion and a broken nose."  The nose I can fix without any major problems but she'll need to stay here for at least 72 hours so that she can be fully monitored.

"f**k"  I said.  She'd be in for the night of the party.  There was no way I was going to be able to stay with her tomorrow evening without raising suspicion.

"We'll take good care of her Alpha, I guarantee you of that."  I just nodded.  Seth was whimpering in my mind.  I envisioned him curled up like a baby waiting for the pain to pass.  Because that's exactly what I'd be doing now.  Instead I had some decisions to make about what the best way was to protect her.

Rose's Point of view

Beep, Beep, Beep

Jesus, I wished someone would turn whatever was making that noise off. I already had a headache the size of a small country and this was making it much much worse.  It felt like I was being continually beaten over the head with a shovel,  giving me more of a headache than I already had.

Beep, Beep, Beep

The noise was dragging me back into the land of the living.  Truthfully, that wasn’t something I was overly excited about.  Keeping my eyes firmly shut, I started to search around in my brain for the answers to how I had managed to get myself into this predicament.  I asked myself a couple of questions internally. What’s your name? What’s your cell number? Who’s the president?  I seemed to have a perfect recall of those details.  I just needed to dig a little deeper to recollect the events leading me to this.

I fell down the stairs, I think? Or maybe fainted on the front porch. Or maybe both?? Whatever it was, it wasn't good. My heart rate was starting to accelerate and my stomach felt like it was in knots. I wrenched my eyes open and started to panic further when I couldn't make out my surroundings. The beeping started to get louder and more frantic. I screwed my eyes shut hoping to the Moon Goddess that when I opened them, I might be back in my room.

My room which I shared with Henry! Oh my Goddess, what happened with Henry?  Scrap that I didn’t want to remember!

"Take it easy, Rose, the Doctor is on his way." I jumped out of my skin at the sound of the unexpected yet familiar voice that had come from within wherever the hell I was. I opened my eyes again to see Jude, the future Beta and, what was worse, Stacey's younger brother."

Jackson's Point of View

After I'd cleaned myself up and got dressed, I made my way downstairs to the front room where my father was regaling our guests with tales of his Great Grandfather, Grandfather and Father.  How they had started off with a small pack of around 100 wolves and that three generations later he had grown it into one of the largest packs in the US. Despite the fact that my mother had listened to this story so many times, she dutifully stood by my father's side looking like she was hanging off his every word.  She was playing the doting mate, and it pissed me off.  Meanwhile, my father was just a few steps away from being completely plastered!

Before I went inside, I spent a few minutes outside of the room hidden in the shadows of the doorway.  It gave me the chance to people watch and give me an idea of what I was walking into.  Other than my Dad talking about himself at the top of his voice, the rest of the room seemed to be pretty quiet.  Clearly, people weren't as impressed with him as he'd like to think they were.

The majority of Alpha's and Luna's in the room were around the same age as my parents.  Some of them had their grown children with them.  Future Alpha's, Beta's and Luna's attending their first coming of age celebration.  I hoped they were having a better time than I was.

There was only one young couple in the room.  They were listening politely to my father, but neither of them were particularly enjoying the crap he was spouting.   The Alpha looked to be in his late 20's whilst his Luna was probably a few years younger.  They were holding hands across the table.  Each of them stealing glances at each other whilst the other one wasn't looking.  They looked incredibly happy.  I wondered if my Mom and Dad ever looked like each other like that.
