Chapter 1 Reunion After A Long Separation

In the CEO's office of X Group,

Lincoln Jiang was lost in thoughts staring at the phone screen for a long time.

"Mr. Jiang, it's almost time," reminded Lucy Xia, his secretary. Beads of sweat formed on her forehead in fear of offending him.

Lincoln Jiang came back to his senses. He loosened his tie while responding to her, "You can leave now. I am yet to finish some work."

"What? But Mr. Jiang, it's a meeting with H Group!" Lucy Xia uttered in disbelief,

"So what? Cancel it!" Lincoln Jiang almost barked at her. "If anyone dares to call me tonight, I'll fire them. Do you understand?"

Lucy Xia opened her mouth but couldn't form any words. Her shoulders drooped realizing there was no way his decision could be changed.

She thought it better to keep her mouth shut and oblige his words.

Vicky Qiao breathed nervously standing before the glass door of Joy Hotel.

She quickly fixed her makeup watching her reflection in the glass door, then pushed the door open and walked inside.

There was a commotion going on in the hall when she entered.

She had a good appearance with her black lace dress that hugged her slim figure perfectly. In a single glance, she looked like a porcelain doll. Delicate long legs complimented her beautiful body curve. The moment she entered, the hall went quiet and all eyes shifted their focus on her.

Meanwhile, observing everyone's attention solely on Vicky Qiao, Lincoln Jiang looked displeased. Dissatisfaction covered his face as he watched her approaching him.

Lincoln Jiang quickly stood up, took his suit and put it on her.

"We're meeting after three years, right? I see, you've become a gentleman." Vicky Qiao smiled. She had her sunglasses on, so it wasn't possible to see if the smile reached her eyes and was genuine.

Lincoln Jiang noticed she had changed a lot since he last saw her. She looked tanned and was thinner than before; she looked more attractive.

"You are late." Although his heart was fluttering, he put on a calm appearance.

"Yes, I was stuck in a traffic jam on the way here," Vicky Qiao responded with a smile and tried to hide her nervousness.

She was so nervous and God knew how fast her heart was beating right now. She had to lie to him, because she couldn't just tell him that she had been hesitating at the door to the hotel for near half an hour.

She didn't know whether she made the right choice by coming here today.

She sipped some water and apologetically said, "It's my fault. Mr. Jiang. Please let me treat you to dinner as an apology from my side."

Vicky Qiao was acting different

and Lincoln Jiang found it annoying.

He couldn't help but ask, "You seem to have changed."

"People change over time, don't they?" Vicky Qiao countered quickly. "Or else it'd be really difficult to survive in a cruel society."

She smiled looking at him.

A surge of disappointment washed over his heart.

His enthusiasm to see her was instantly diminished.

Three years ago, she left without saying goodbye to him. He spent half a year looking for her crazily. Then, he finally gave up.

"Why did you come back?" Lincoln Jiang leaned back in his seat and pretended to be indifferent. "It couldn't be for just catching up with each other, could it?"

"I have booked a private room. Let's go there and talk while eating." Vicky Qiao smiled, which made Lincoln Jiang distracted for a moment. He remembered that hot summer.

"Sure." Vicky Qiao indeed looked like she had lived a good life during the past three years. Then, he also shouldn't live in the past memories. He needed to move on.

A frown never left her face after they settled inside the pre-booked room.

Her plan tonight was to get him drunk and sleep with him. Unexpectedly, she didn't have to do anything. He began drinking on his own.

She indeed got lucky today.

Lincoln Jiang had always been good at drinking, but today he drank more than he normally did as he was not in a good mood. Soon he got drunk. At one point, he looked at her with his blurred vision and asked, "Vicky, don't you have a heart?

You left me three years ago. Then why did you come back?

Tell me, why?"

His words made Vicky Qiao smile bitterly.

"Do you think I was willing to come back?"

she murmured. If she could, she'd have stayed away from him for the rest of her life, but now it was different.

She stood up and walked toward him. "Mr. Jiang, you are drunk. You need to take a rest now. Let me help you go upstairs and get a room where you can have a rest."

The room where she had intended to take him was already prepared. She took Lincoln Jiang to the room and laid him on the bed.

Then, she took off her clothes and hugged him.

It was not the first time they had made love. Even though it had been three years, Vicky Qiao knew all the sensitive points of him.

Under her seductive enchantment, Lincoln Jiang fell into her trap and took the lead from her.

Their lips smashed against each other and fire ignited. They couldn't hold back anymore. Their bodies that had been missing each other's touch for three years crashed into each other. They let themselves flow away along the storm of passion.

When Vicky Qiao woke up again, it was already the next morning.

As soon as she opened her eyes and turned her head, her eyes met his. Lincoln Jiang wrapped his hand around her and pulled her closer with satisfaction and greeted her.

"Morning!"

Although he was drunk last night, he remembered everything that had happened. The fire that was rekindled after three long years couldn't be ignored or forgotten.

After last night, his belief was even stronger that he still had feeling for her.

'I'm screwed.'

These was the first thought that crossed her mind.

She had planned to leave secretly last night when Lincoln Jiang was still asleep. But the warmth of his embrace messed up her intention. She couldn't believe she fell asleep in his arms.

But now she had no choice but to greet him.

"Good morning."

The room had the evidence of last night's events. The air was thick with the smell of sex, and the messy clothes here and there reminded the two of what happened. "Miss Qiao, what are you thinking?"

Lincoln Jiang asked jokingly.

Compared with his calmness, Vicky Qiao looked much more flustered.

Her gaze wavered as she blinked and looked away from him. She tried to appear relaxed now.

She sat up, reached for her wallet and took out money from it. "This is your earning for last night's performance. The amount of money should be more than enough."

The sudden absurd act of her was like a slap in Lincoln Jiang's face.

She considered him as a man-whore.

I lived as the "scarred ghost" of the Stephens penthouse, a wife kept in the shadows because my facial burns offended my billionaire husband’s aesthetic. For years, I endured Kason’s coldness and my family's abuse, a submissive puppet who believed she had nowhere else to go. The end came with a blue folder tossed onto my silk sheets. Kason’s mistress was back, and he wanted me out by sunset, offering a five-million-dollar "silence fee" to go hide my face in the countryside. The betrayal cut deep when I discovered my father had already traded my divorce for a corporate bailout. My step-sister mocked my "trashy" appearance at a high-end boutique, while the sales staff treated me like a common thief. At home, my father threatened to cut off my mother's life-saving medicine unless I crawled back to Kason to beg for a better deal. I was the girl who took the blame for a fire she didn't start, the wife who worshipped a man who never looked her in the eye, and the daughter used as a human bargaining chip. I was supposed to be broken, penniless, and desperate. But the woman who stood up wasn't the weak Elease Finch anymore; she was Phoenix, a tactical predator with a $500 million secret. I signed the divorce papers without a single tear, walked past my stunned husband, and wiped the Finch family's bank accounts clean with a few taps on my phone. "Your money is dirty," I told Kason with a cold smile. "I prefer clean hands." The cage is open, the hunt has begun, and I’m starting with the people who thought a scar made me weak.

My stepmother sold me like a piece of inventory to a man known for breaking people just to plug the financial crater my father left behind. I was delivered to the Morton estate in the middle of a freezing storm, stripped of my phone, and told that if I didn't make myself useful, my senile grandfather would be evicted from his care facility by noon. The master of the house, Adonis Morton IV, was a monster living in a silent mausoleum, driven to the brink of madness by a sensory condition that turned every sound into a physical assault. When I was forced into his suite to serve him, he didn't see a human being; he saw a source of agony. In a fit of animalistic rage, he pinned me to the wall and nearly strangled me to death just for the sound of a shattering teacup. I only survived by using my grandfather’s secret herbal blends and pressure-point therapy to force his overactive nervous system into a drugged sleep. But saving him was my greatest mistake. Instead of letting me go, Adonis moved me into a guest suite connected to his own bedroom by a hidden door. He didn't just want me as a servant; he needed me as a human white-noise machine to drown out the demons in his head. The nightmare deepened when he took the promissory note that defined my freedom and tore it into confetti. By destroying the debt, he destroyed my exit strategy. He replaced my maid’s uniform with a silver silk dress that clung to my skin but did nothing to hide the dark, ugly bruises his fingers had left on my neck. He branded me as his "primary care associate," a title that was nothing more than a gilded cage. I felt a sickening sense of injustice as he forced me to sign a contract that banned me from contacting other men and required me to sleep wherever he slept. He looked at me with a possessive heat, calling me his "medication" rather than a woman. My family had sold my body, but Adonis Morton was intent on owning my very presence, using my grandfather’s medical bills as a leash to keep me within twenty feet of him at all times. Standing in a neglected greenhouse with mud staining my expensive silk, I realized I was no longer a victim waiting for rescue. If I was going to be his medication, I would learn how to be his cure—or his undoing. I began clearing the weeds with a cold, calculated frenzy, determined to turn this prison into my laboratory. He thinks he has trapped a helpless girl, but I am going to pry open the cracks in his stone walls until his entire world comes crashing down.
