Chapter 1 Meeting New Old Friends

I walked into the local bar that I am meeting one of my oldest friends. Trevor and I have been friends since we were on the peewee teams as little boys.

I have been away for games and really busy to hang out. He meet his girlfriend since high.

I was about to meet her little friend.

I think he said her name was Sage.

I really didn't wanted him to try to match me up with anyone. I wasn't looking for any type of relationship since I was so focus on my career.

I been with the 'New England Patriots' since I was recruited from collage at Utah University four years ago.

I just became the star quarter back in the team. This was the start of my career taking off beside I was having fun playing around the field of the pool of woman that have been throwing themselves at me.

I walked over to the table as my friend and girlfriend sat when Trevor lifted from the table and gave me one of our bro hugs. "I am so glad you could make it." I smiled at him as I sat down, "Thank you for inviting me out." I looked over to his girlfriend, "Tiffany, how have you been?" She smiled at me.

She was tall, tan with black hair and green eyes. She was a looker and Trevor was madly in love with her.

"Jake. I saw the game. You creamed them."

I nodded as my favorite beer hit the table when I looked around, "So, where is this Sage girl?" Tiffany smirked as she looked over to the door, "She just got here."

I looked behind me through the crowd to see a young small brunette made her way to the table as she waved, "I am sorry. I am late. Babysitter."

I cocked my head as she leaned over the table and gave Tiffany a hug then sat next to me.

I could smell her perfume that was sweet scent as she smiled at me, "You must be Jake?"

I nodded at her and shook her hand, "You must be Sage." She nodded her head as I took her in. Her chestnut color straight hair draped over her shoulders and her eyes were a bluer than the ocean.

I looked like a giant next to her as she shifted in her seat when I asked her, "How did you all meet?" Tiffany smiled at me, "Sage works at the magazine that I work for."

I nodded as I sat back as she ordered a drink then looked over to me, "Tiffany showed me the ropes when I started three years ago."

I smirked at her as I asked her, "So, what do you do at the magazine?"

She gave me a strange look like I should know who she is when she answered my question, "The sports section."

I rolled my eyes at her as I did know who she was. She just wrote a piece on one of my other teammates that could stop talking about this little hot journalist that was making a name for herself in the sport world in journalist.

Sage Thomas.

She worked there for a while and final got her own column in the magazine.

"You interviewed one of my teammates the other day." I stated when she nodded.

She lifted her drink to her soft lips as she sipped on her drink, "I did. He was an interesting character."

I snickered as she was right Vincent was an interesting member of the team. He was a goof ball, but he was a good damn player. "I hope he made a good impression of the team for you."

She shrugged her shoulders, "Goof ball but a good guy from what I could see." I nodded as Trevor smirked at me when I narrowed my eyes at him, "You know Sage, Jake is single." She choked on her drink as she gave a shy grin, "I know. I heard about his activities off the field." I tilted my head at her as I snarled, "That is a problem?"

She shook her head, "Nope not at all." I took a sip of my beer as I eyed Trevor for opening up that conversation.

She looked behind her as her body stiffened and Tiffany swore under breath.

Trevor looked at Tiffany as I looked behind to see who they are looking at when Tiffany explained, "Bill, he is Sage's stalker."

Sage snapped her head to Tiffany, "Oh god he heading this way."

I placed my arm around her shoulders and pulled her to me as I whispered to her, "Give me the word and I will act like your boyfriend to get rid of him."

She snapped her head at me darting her eyes into my eyes.

Her blue eyes pleaded to me to do it. I placed my other hand up to her face as my fingers traced her perfect jawline as the 'stalker' Bill reached our table. Tiffany looked up, "Bill, what can we do for you?"

He tilted his head to me and Sage as my eyes are glued to hers as she tense up from him being close to her, "I was hoping to get a word with Sage."

I looked up at him as he was short cubby stalkerish look to him as he tilted his head to Sage, "Sorry man, Sage is little busy with her boyfriend right now."

I could feel her hand grabbed the bottom of my shirt that was tucked into my jeans when Bill cleared his throat, "Oh. I didn't know she had a boyfriend. And Jake Michaels at that." She looked over as Trevor and Tiffany sat back tilting their heads with a smirk on their face.

Assholes, they wanted something like to happened.

Bill placed something on the table, "I just thought that little Tristian would like this." I looked at it and it was a transformer action figure when I tilted my head at her on why the hell would he give her something like this.

She perked up as she tried to handed it back to him, "I appreciate it, but I can't accept this. Tristian has more than enough toys." She looked back at me as he said, "Please take it. It is for him. He is a cute little kid and I figured that being a single mom..."

She held up her hand as I looked at Trevor.

Single mom.

Are shitting me?

I am not good with kids.

Nieces and nephews maybe I am the cool uncle that plays on football on the television but having a fling with a woman with a child. "Bill, Please, this is highly unprofessional. You are one of my bosses." She sweetly said as my eyes darted at him.

How dare he try to use her son to get into her pants and being her boss on to of that. Bill nodded as he picked up the toy, "I guess you are right, Sage. Sorry about that. See you on Monday. Looking forward to seeing a piece about this fellow and your

relationship."

She snapped her head, "My relationship with anyone is no one business. I would prefer not to tell the world who I am with."

He smirked as he walked away, "See you too, Tiffany." Tiffany crossed her arms, "You need to report him HR."

Sage nodded at her as she took a sip of her drink, "I tried. I was pulled into Mr. Wentworth's office and was told it would look bad for the magazine if one of his commander in chief making woman uncomfortable for a misunderstanding."

Tiffany leaned forward, "That was not a misunderstanding. He is trying to use your son to get in your pants and we all saw it."

I looked down at her as that all the confirmation I needed that she is a mom. She looks so young and how old is this son.

She looked at me as she knew I was wondering, "I was seventeen and he is five."

I calculated the math in my head, Fuck.

She is twenty-two.

I tilted my head as she held up her hand, "The father is not involved at all."

Fucking asshole.

How dare he get her pregnant then want nothing to do with them, who does that?

Trevor tense up as he knows something more happened then what she just said. I looked at him as he shook his head.

He will tell me later about that.

Not here.

Shit is must be bad if he not going to call her out on it. Trevor is not the one for holding his tongue, so this has to be bad. Tiffany

smirked, "He is a little cutie. I tell Trevor that he has competition when I babysit for Sage." I chuckled as Sage pulled out her phone as a ping went off, "Shit."

Today is October 14th, my birthday. I returned to New York after months away, dragging my suitcase through the biting wind, but the VIP pickup zone where my husband’s Maybach usually idled was empty. When I finally let myself into our Upper East Side penthouse, I didn’t find a cake or a "welcome home" banner. Instead, I found my husband, Caden, kneeling on the floor, helping our five-year-old daughter wrap a massive gift for my half-sister, Adalynn. Caden didn’t even look up when I walked in; he was too busy laughing with the girl who had already stolen my father’s legacy and was now moving in on my family. "Auntie Addie is a million times better than Mommy," my daughter Elara chirped, clutching a plush toy Caden had once forbidden me from buying for her. "Mommy is mean," she whispered loudly, while Caden just smirked, calling me a "drill sergeant" before whisking her off to Adalynn’s party without a second glance. Later that night, I saw a video Adalynn posted online where my husband and child laughed while mocking my "sensitive" nature, treating me like an inconvenient ghost in my own home. I had spent five years researching nutrition for Elara’s health and managing every detail of Caden’s empire, only to be discarded the moment I wasn't in the room. How could the man who set his safe combination to my birthday completely forget I even existed? The realization didn't break me; it turned me into ice. I didn't scream or beg for an explanation. I simply walked into the study, pulled out the divorce papers I’d drafted months ago, and took a black marker to the terms. I crossed out the alimony, the mansion, and even the custody clause—if they wanted a life without me, I would give them exactly what they asked for. I left my four-carat diamond ring on the console table and walked out into the rain with nothing but a heavily encrypted hard drive. The submissive Mrs. Holloway was gone, and "Ghost," the most lethal architect in the tech world, was finally back online to take back everything they thought I’d forgotten.

One Night With My Billionaire Boss

I woke up on silk sheets that smelled of expensive cedar and cold sandalwood, a world away from my cramped apartment in Brooklyn. Beside me lay Ezra Gardner—my boss, the billionaire CEO of Gardner Holdings, and the man who could end my career with a snap of his fingers. He didn’t offer an apology for the night before; instead, he looked at me with terrifying clarity and proposed a cold, calculated business arrangement. "Marriage. It stabilizes the board and solves the PR crisis before it begins." He dressed me in archival Chanel and sent me home in his Maybach, but my life was already falling apart. My boyfriend, Irving, claimed he had passed out early, yet his location data placed him at my best friend’s apartment until three in the morning. When I tried to run, I realized Ezra was already ten steps ahead, tracking my movements and uncovering the secret I’d spent twenty years hiding: my connection to the powerful Senator Grimes. I was trapped between a CEO who treated me like a line item on a quarterly report and a boyfriend who had been using me while sleeping with my closest friend. I felt like a pawn in a game I didn't understand, wondering why a man like Ezra would walk up forty flights of stairs on a broken leg just to make sure I was safe. "Showtime, Mrs. Gardner." Standing on the red carpet in a gown that cost more than my life, I watched my cheating ex-boyfriend’s face turn pale as Ezra claimed me in front of the world. I wasn't just an assistant anymore; I was a weapon, and it was time to burn their world down.
