Falling for Jaylon Chapter 1 Runaway

Chapter One

I hid in the rafters as the police searched the grounds for me. I am in a split keeping my balance on the beams as the flashlights goes behind the dark areas of the warehouse that I am using to hid in. It is a better way to blend in with the environment.

A man walked into the warehouse when he growled, "May I ask what is going on here? This is private property."

The man was tall with dark clean-cut hair with a five-clock shadow. He had an expensive suit on as if he has money and a lot of it. One of the police officers walked over to him, "Sorry, Mr. Cunning. Didn't realize this was one of your property."

The man tilted his head towards me as he asked with a grin on his face, "What is this about?" God please, don't say anything. The officer sighed as I closed my eyes, "A Runaway." I snorted silently to myself. Yeah, right. A Runaway.

I am freaken twenty-year-old. The reason why I am being looked like a runaway is because of my evil stepmother is trying to make me marry a man I don't know because she hates me.

The man turned his head towards the door, "As you can see your runaway isn't here." Oh, thank god. Maybe he didn't see me after all. The officer nodded as he whistle, "She not here. Let's move it." Another officer walked over as he sighed, "But sir, we saw her run in here." Mr. Cunning held out his hands to his side when let out a growl, "Obviously, she isn't here."

The officer shook his head as they the whole force walked out of the warehouse. The one that was talking Mr. Cunning patted Mr. Cunning on his shoulder, "If you find someone hang around that shouldn't be, please give me a call. Her mom is pretty worry about her."

I shook my head as Mr. Cunning tilted his head to me as I mentally slapped my forehead, don't fall for that poor mom act. That woman is evil. Evil, I tell you.

He gave a grin then looked back at the officer, "I will make sure to keep an eye out for the child." The officer nodded as they both left the warehouse.

I took a big sighed as I waited to make sure that everyone is gone when I heard footsteps. Shit. I am in the most uncomfortable positions to be able to hid away.

Mr. Cunning walked back into the warehouse with an apple in one hand and a knife in another hand.

He leaned against the wall as he chuckled and placed the knife through the apple then sliced it. He held the slice for a moment before popping the slice into his mouth. Why does he looks so sexy eating an apple like that? I shook my head as I closed my eyes as he whistle, "Here kitty, kitty."

I tilted my head; wait he has a cat. Awe. Where this kitty?

Mr. Cunning lifted off the wall as he walked towards the middle of the warehouse as he tilted his head towards me as he tsked placing the knife into the apple to cut another slice, "Come on Kitty, come down. It gets pretty cold out here at night. I wouldn't want your pretty head to freeze."

Wait, is he calling me kitty?

He finds me pretty.

What the hell, why do I care about if he finds me pretty?

I shook my head as I am not moving. If he didn't see me then I am not giving up my location. I am not going back to that awful home and to that evil woman to have me married off.

Not happening.

He shook his head as he slid the slice into his mouth then placed the knife into the apple then placed it on a box. He walked to the door, "Have a good night, Kitty." He walked out then shut the door.

I gave it a few moments before I swung my legs around to have them sway off of the beams. I took a deep breath as I can finally move my legs again. I mean come on that hurts. Okay, I took gymnastics, and I am extremely flexible. I can placed myself into a pretzel if I wanted to.

I sway my legs a couple times then threw myself to the floor. I tucked my head as I rolled on the ground then on to my feet. I swiped the dust off of my jeans then went to the door.

No... No... No...

It is locked.

Shit.

I spent three hours trying to find away to get out of this place as I ate the apple. I was going crazy. I needed out of here. I banged my hands on the door as I couldn't get it open.

I pulled my sweater around me as the cold air settled in. Fuck. He was right, it gets cold in here. I walked over to the corner as I slid down the wall then placed my head on my knees as tears went down my face. What was I thinking. I should have took my chance with Mr. Cunning.

I wonder who he is. Why didn't the cops question him more? Why didn't he give me up? I know he saw me. He calling me Kitty.

I shivered from the cold as the door opened when a blanket was thrown into the warehouse. I got up when I ran to the door when I yelled, "No. Don't shut it again." The door slammed as my fist hit the door, "NO."

My tears ran down my face as I turned around then leaned my head against the door. I slid down the door as I cried, What the hell am I going to do now? Why is he making me stay here?

I got up and grabbed the blanket and threw it around me and went back to the door. I laid my head against the door as I sat on the floor. If the door is going to open again then I was going to be right here and take off when it opens.

My eyes started to get heavy as I felt myself sliding down as I fell asleep.

Do I hear a bird?

I opened my eyes as there is a bird right next to me. I lifted it up as I squint my eyes as I saw a small hole in the roof. I tilted my head, can I fit through that? I got up as I jumped back up to a beams like I did last time.

I carefully placed my feet on the beams as I slid my feet across to the hole. I pulled myself up as I tried to lifted over when I slipped when I started to fall.

Shit.

I thought I was waking up in the arms of Arthur, the man I loved. But as the morning light hit the Hamptons estate, the man buttoning his cuffs by the window turned around with eyes like chips of ice. It was Augustus Riddle, Arthur’s cruel younger brother, and I had just spent the night whispering confessions of love into the wrong man's ear. The night I thought was a beautiful beginning turned into a devastating nightmare. Instead of comfort, Gus treated me like a stain on his expensive carpet, scribbling a check for "services rendered" before shoving me into a dark service corridor to hide my existence from his brother. "How much does it cost to buy your silence?" He sneered, before leaving me barefoot in a torrential downpour while he drove away in a luxury Cadillac. Four years later, I am a struggling actress in Los Angeles, working double shifts as a barista just to keep the lights on. My life was finally stable until my roommate dragged me to a high-end dinner to meet her new "influential" boyfriend. The man sitting at the table, looking more arrogant and lethal than ever, was Augustus. He spent the entire night humiliating me, calling me a pathetic amateur and a social climber in front of my only friends. When I fled into the rain and collapsed on the sidewalk, skinning my knee until I bled, he watched from his car. He saw me clutching a plastic baggie containing the taped-together pieces of that four-year-old check—the only proof of my shame. He looked at me like roadkill, rolled up his window, and drove off into the dark. I couldn't understand why he was doing this. Why did he hate me enough to crush me, yet remember that I couldn't handle the smell of cigarette smoke? Why did he leave me bleeding in the street, only to send expensive medical supplies and coffee to my door the very next morning? "I'm moving out." I told my roommates, realizing that Gus Riddle didn't just want to destroy me; he wanted to haunt me. I grabbed my suitcase and walked out with eighty dollars to my name, finally ready to disappear into the city before he could burn the rest of my life to the ground.

Rain hammered against the asphalt as my sedan spun violently into the guardrail on the I-95. Blood trickled down my temple, stinging my eyes, while the rhythmic slap of the windshield wipers mocked my panic. Trembling, I dialed my husband, Clive. His executive assistant answered instead, his voice professional and utterly cold. "Mr. Wilson says to stop the theatrics. He said, and I quote, 'Hang up. Tell her I don’t have time for her emotional blackmail tonight.'" The line went dead while I was still trapped in the wreckage. At the hospital, I watched the news footage of Clive wrapping his jacket around his "fragile" ex-girlfriend, Angelena, shielding her from the storm I was currently bleeding in. When I returned to our penthouse, I found a prenatal ultrasound in his suit pocket, dated the day he claimed to be on a business trip. Instead of an apology, Clive met me with a sneer. He told me I was nothing but an "expensive decoration" his father bought to make him look stable. He froze my bank accounts and cut off my cards, waiting for the hunger to drive me back to his feet. I stared at the man I had loved for four years, realizing he didn't just want a wife; he wanted a prop he could switch off. He thought he could starve me into submission while he played father to another woman's child. But Clive forgot one thing. Before I was his trophy wife, I was Starfall—the legendary voice actress who vanished at the height of her fame. "I'm not jealous, Clive. I'm done." I grabbed my old microphone and walked out. I’m not just leaving him; I’m taking the lead role in the biggest saga in Hollywood—the one Angelena is desperate for. This time, the "decoration" is going to burn his world down.

I received a pornographic video. "Do you like this?" The man speaking in the video is my husband, Mark, whom I haven't seen for several months. He is naked, his shirt and pants scattered on the ground, thrusting forcefully on a woman whose face I can't see, her plump and round breasts bouncing vigorously. I can clearly hear the slapping sounds in the video, mixed with lustful moans and grunts. "Yes, yes, fuck me hard, baby," the woman screams ecstatically in response. "You naughty girl!" Mark stands up and flips her over, slapping her buttocks as he speaks. "Stick your ass up!" The woman giggles, turns around, sways her buttocks, and kneels on the bed. I feel like someone has poured a bucket of ice water on my head. It's bad enough that my husband is having an affair, but what's worse is that the other woman is my own sister, Bella. ************************************************************************************************************************ "I want to get a divorce, Mark," I repeated myself in case he didn't hear me the first time-even though I knew he'd heard me clearly. He stared at me with a frown before answering coldly, "It's not up to you! I'm very busy, don't waste my time with such boring topics, or try to attract my attention!" The last thing I was going to do was argue or bicker with him. "I will have the lawyer send you the divorce agreement," was all I said, as calmly as I could muster. He didn't even say another word after that and just went through the door he'd been standing in front of, slamming it harshly behind him. My eyes lingered on the knob of the door a bit absentmindedly before I pulled the wedding ring off my finger and placed it on the table. I grabbed my suitcase, which I'd already had my things packed in and headed out of the house.

I woke up on silk sheets that smelled of expensive cedar and cold sandalwood, a world away from my cramped apartment in Brooklyn. Beside me lay Ezra Gardner—my boss, the billionaire CEO of Gardner Holdings, and the man who could end my career with a snap of his fingers. He didn’t offer an apology for the night before; instead, he looked at me with terrifying clarity and proposed a cold, calculated business arrangement. "Marriage. It stabilizes the board and solves the PR crisis before it begins." He dressed me in archival Chanel and sent me home in his Maybach, but my life was already falling apart. My boyfriend, Irving, claimed he had passed out early, yet his location data placed him at my best friend’s apartment until three in the morning. When I tried to run, I realized Ezra was already ten steps ahead, tracking my movements and uncovering the secret I’d spent twenty years hiding: my connection to the powerful Senator Grimes. I was trapped between a CEO who treated me like a line item on a quarterly report and a boyfriend who had been using me while sleeping with my closest friend. I felt like a pawn in a game I didn't understand, wondering why a man like Ezra would walk up forty flights of stairs on a broken leg just to make sure I was safe. "Showtime, Mrs. Gardner." Standing on the red carpet in a gown that cost more than my life, I watched my cheating ex-boyfriend’s face turn pale as Ezra claimed me in front of the world. I wasn't just an assistant anymore; I was a weapon, and it was time to burn their world down.
