Chapter 1 Evelyn

This morning Evelyn looked as excited as ever. Evelyn was satisfied that she always had so much trouble getting her job done. Evelyn's new boss always gave him a harder job than Mr Gerald, his father.

Malvin Gerald, son of Mr. Gerald is a handsome young boss, famous perfectionist and does not fall in love easily. Almost all female employees talk about it, even many of them deliberately seek her attention. However, they are still only failures.

Evelyn is a secretary who has previously worked for Mr. Gerald for three years. Always be able to finish his work on time. Mr. Gerald never doubted Evelyn's abilities and trusted her very much.

"Mr. Malvin, here is a file for you to sign." Evelyn handed Malvin the file.

After reading the file submitted by his secretary, Malvin signed it and returned to give it to his secretary. Evelyn lowered her head and was ready to leave the room.

"Wait, Evelyn." Said Malvin.

"Yes, Sir."

"Do you have an event tonight?"

"No, Sir."

"Then come to my apartment, I invite you to dinner."

"Are you celebrating something, Mr. Malvin?"

"Does inviting you to dinner require a celebration?"

"Ah, no, Sir. I will come to your apartment."

"Get ready at 7, I'll have someone pick you up."

"Yes, Sir, excuse me."

Evelyn walked out of her boss's office, smiling inwardly because her boss suddenly invited her to dinner.

Evelyn prepares to attend her boss's dinner invitation. She wears a knee-length red dress, with short sleeves and a slightly open chest, making her look more relaxed yet sexy. Malvin's driver who had been ordered to pick up Evelyn had arrived, and now they were headed for Malvin's apartment. Arriving there, Malvin's driver handed him a paper containing a message from Malvin. The paper also contained Malvin's apartment number and the access code.

Evelyn immediately went to the top floor where Malvin's apartment was, Evelyn immediately pressed the code button according to what was written on the paper. The door to Malvin's apartment opened, Evelyn entered Malvin's apartment.

"Excuse me, Mr. Malvin." Said Evelyn after seeing Malvin sitting on a sofa looking to be waiting for him.

"Sit down, I've been waiting for you." Said Malvin

Malvin took off his official clothes, at this time, Malvin was wearing casual clothes without taking a tidy impression. Malvin really likes neatness. the man still looks handsome wearing whatever.

Evelyn sat on the sofa opposite Malvin. She looked nervous when Malvin looked at her so intimately.

"Are you going to keep looking at me like that, Sir?" Evelyn asked boldly.

"Ah, i'am sorry Evelyn. You look so beautiful." Malvin smiled nervously.

"Thank you, but don't I look pretty at the office?" Evelyn tried to make a joke of it to break the ice. Malvin smiled.

"You look good everywhere, Evelyn."

Then they heard the two of them laughing together. This is the second time Malvin has spoken to her about outside work. Malvin's invitation to dinner was the first. Moreover, at this time Malvin was praising her beauty.

"You can call me Malvin, when we're out of the office like this."

"Okay, Malvin."

"Okay, we better start dinner now." invite Malvin to the dining table.

Then the two of them ate in silence. After eating, Malvin invited Evelyn to sit on the balcony of his apartment. What an amazingly beautiful view, the whole city can be seen clearly sparkling from here. Evelyn admired the beautiful scene before her. Malvin smiled as he watched Evelyn enjoy the view from her apartment.

"The scenery here is beautiful."

"Do you like it?"

"Of course everyone will like it, it can calm the mind after work."

"Then, starting tonight you can continue to enjoy it every day."

"You mean?"

"This week there will be a big project, as my secretary, you will be overtime more often and need me. So I want you to stay here. We will work together. "

Evelyn nodded in understanding. She wanted to say no but she also knew it would be useless, Evelyn knew Malvin hated rejection.

Evelyn finally moved into Malvin's apartment. Assisted by Malvin, she tidied up his belongings. Evelyn was now in the kitchen preparing food, feeling hungry because she hadn't filled her stomach since morning.

"Did you cook something?" Asked Malvin when he got to the kitchen.

"Eat it, you like spaghetti, don't you?" Said Evelyn.

"How do you know?"

"Mr. Gerald loves you very much, he always makes you proud and tells all about you." Evelyn smiled.

"You can do many things, it's no wonder my Father kept you." Malvin smiled too.

Now Malvin knew why his father always told him how proud his secretary was, because it was true that Evelyn was worthy of being proud.

Since yesterday Malvin had been heard praising Evelyn more and more often, things that Malvin had never done before. Of course it made Evelyn smile happily, if usually in the office, she saw Malvin's flat face, now Evelyn could see Malvin's warm smile every day.

Malvin invited Evelyn to go to the office with him, Evelyn did not refuse because Evelyn was Malvin's secretary so it was only natural that they were seen together. It doesn't matter how his friends at work think.

Every day Malvin and Evelyn look closer, they come and go home together, however, they are still professional. During overtime, Evelyn worked at Malvin's apartment as they had planned beforehand.

"Get some rest, you look tired. Tomorrow you have to be ready for our project presentation, so don't be too tired."Said Malvin

"All right, everything's settled. You should rest too." Evelyn smiled.

They enter their respective rooms and get ready to rest their bodies. Tomorrow is the time to win a big project. And maybe tomorrow will be the last time Evelyn stays in Malvin's apartment because after this project is finished, there is no more reason for Evelyn to stay in Malvin's apartment.

"Cheerrrsss ... yeaaahh."

The cheerful roar of Evelyn and Malvin's teammates celebrating their victory. It was not in vain that Evelyn's efforts to work overtime every night to win this big project were finally successful. They gather at a bar and order a drink, tonight they'll have a good time.

The night was getting late, Evelyn's head was starting to lightheaded and dizzy, and her mouth could hear an indistinct voice. Malvin also felt the same way, his head was heavy but he could still control himself.

"Why are you drinking so much? You can't drink!" Said Malvin as he helped Evelyn walk.

"Shhhhh," Evelyn put her index finger on Malvin's lips, "you shut up, Boss, you don't understand anything. So you better shut up, Boss." Said Evelyn ramblingly.

Evelyn staggered, Malvin helped her by enduring her headache. But Evelyn brushed off Malvin's hand.

"Shut up, I'll help you walk." Said Malvin.

I was once the heiress to the Solomon empire, but after it crumbled, I became the "charity case" ward of the wealthy Hyde family. For years, I lived in their shadows, clinging to the promise that Anson Hyde would always be my protector. That promise shattered when Anson walked into the ballroom with Claudine Chapman on his arm. Claudine was the girl who had spent years making my life a living hell, and now Anson was announcing their engagement to the world. The humiliation was instant. Guests sneered at my cheap dress, and a waiter intentionally sloshed champagne over me, knowing I was a nobody. Anson didn't even look my way; he was too busy whispering possessively to his new fiancée. I was a ghost in my own home, watching my protector celebrate with my tormentor. The betrayal burned. I realized I wasn't a ward; I was a pawn Anson had kept on a shelf until he found a better trade. I had no money, no allies, and a legal trust fund that Anson controlled with a flick of his wrist. Fleeing to the library, I stumbled into Dallas Koch—a titan of industry and my best friend’s father. He was a wall of cold, absolute power that even the Hydes feared. "Marry me," I blurted out, desperate to find a shield Anson couldn't climb. Dallas didn't laugh. He pulled out a marriage agreement and a heavy fountain pen. "Sign," he commanded, his voice a low rumble. "But if you walk out that door with me, you never go back." I signed my name, trading my life for the only man dangerous enough to keep me safe.

For seventeen years, I was the pride of the Carlisle family, the perfect daughter destined to inherit an empire. But that life ended the moment a DNA report slid across my father’s mahogany desk. The paper proved I was a stranger. Vanessa, the girl sobbing in the corner, was the real biological daughter they had been searching for. "You need to leave. Tonight. Before the press gets wind of this. Before the stock prices dip." My father’s voice was as cold as flint. My mother wouldn't even look at me, staring out the window at the gardens as if I were already a ghost. Just like that, I was erased. I left behind the Birkin bags and the diamonds, throwing my Centurion Card into a crystal bowl with a clatter that echoed like a gunshot. I walked out into the cold night and climbed into a rusted Ford Taurus driven by a man I had never met—my biological father. I went from a mansion to a fourth-floor walk-up in Queens that smelled of laundry detergent and struggle. My new siblings looked at me with a mix of fear and disgust, waiting for the "fallen princess" to break. They expected me to beg for my old life back, to crumble without the luxury I’d known since birth. But they didn't know the truth. I had spent years training in a shark tank, honing survival skills they couldn't imagine. While Richard Carlisle froze my trust funds to starve me out, my net worth was climbing by millions on an encrypted trading app. They thought they were throwing me to the wolves. They didn't realize they were just letting me off my leash. As the Carlisles prepared to debut Vanessa at the Manhattan Arts Gala, I was already making my move. "Get dressed. We're going to a party."
