Mr. CEO Chapter 1 Never Mix

The Moon Goddess - Selene's POV

There was nothing more magnificent in the world than the blissful control over souls. Some called my powers control over love but I haven't seen it that way. There was a designated Goddess for love and if anything I would have never wanted to be compared to her.

"I am her sister! Let me in! " A voice so thin spoke as the double doors to my throne room sprang open. The voice held a hunch scandalous excitement.

"Mania." The name brushed from my lips, an almost curse yet I dismissed the armoured guards with a wave of my hand.

"Selene." She smiled in return, her dark leather dress reaching her small kneecaps. The pitch black hair went down to her shoulders. She scanned the ceramic floors and crisp white walls with curiosity. "Don't look around as if you've never been here before."

Mania snapped her eyes to me. "Watch your tone sister or I'd think you don't wish me visiting." Surely I didn't. Not when those visits involved spilling of commands.

"What in the gods do you want?" I spit out dryly. Mania gave me a wild grin before gesturing to the entrance, one she barged in from. "Come in ladies!"

I loved my sisters dearly, just not when they trampled my decor with their heels. It was almost impossible to keep a stoic expression when they stomped over the snowflakes that lined the floors, a direct pathway to my throne.

"Can't we find peace in this situation?" Another goddess appears from the alter her shiny blue hair flat on her face.

"Eirene!" I say with a smile. The Goddess of Peace looks at me in awe as her feet carry her towards me. We interlock in a tight hug before she pushes us apart.

"Why are you all here sisters?" I blow out, they smile innocently which is clearly an indicator of completely the opposite. I was long prepared for their sinister deeds.

"How do I say it...honestly? We accuse you of not loving us." The goddess of Truth pushes her way through the small group. Her golden locks were a reminder that she was a daughter of Zeus.

"How can you say that, Aletheia?!" My eyes look at her with sadness there was nothing I wouldn't do to assure them of my love for my sisters. I loved my family.

"Aphrodite. Look at me. You are the goddess of Love. Tell them just how real my love is for them!" I rise to my feet, my sisters look at me with judgement. The Goddess of Love passes me a bored expression telling me off for such useless attempt.

Aphrodite gazes at me roughly before looking away. "I cannot determine your feelings Selene. I am not the Goddess of Family that's what you have to ask Hera for." She mumbles out and I narrow my eyes. Off course she could check my soul for my emotions, yet she didn't. I could go to Hera, but I would never do that. That Goddess is pure evil.

"What you are still mourning over that mortal?!" Aphrodite exclaims loudly causing all of my sisters erupt in gasps. I widen my eyes, I still remember the day, Hera betrayed me. All I asked for was to see my beloved Endymion and what did I get? His passed out body that was locked in an eternal sleep. He was practically dead. All because Hera found out about my secret. The secret that never went unmentioned without a day going by. Love for a mortal was forbidden to anyone but the Olympians, but as my creators where both Titans, I was dreading death.

Tears threaten to spill as I raise my vision to stare into deep blue oceans eyes. "No. Off course not." I swallow, my throat going dry. "Excuse me." I mumble out, turning my back to the questioning eyes and stare at the two bowls of souls.

Mortals and Immortals. Never. Mix. Together.

Taking a huge breath I let my emotions twist into tight knots, I couldn't wake Endymion up and that was not ever changeable.

"What do you want me to do to prove that I love you all?" I spin through the group of my goddess relatives. They stared at me as if they're spirits lost on the long way to the Soul River.

"I think we have to put her to a test-". Mania is cut off by someone else entering. The double glass doors covered with shiny diamonds fling open as a deity steps into the lead hall in my Kingdom.

"Mother." We all stand to praise the Goddess of us all. Her golden lace dress shines almost blinding every single one of us. My eyes flinch at such bright light. The deity takes a second to sublime her shine just as we see her celestial sight. Her soft silky blonde locks and her deep violet eyes were the most ethereal feature.

"Sit children." Gaia commands, taking light steps she strolls, her bare feet thudding as she goes.

I went to the City Clerk’s office for a routine copy of my marriage license to finalize a trust fund audit. I expected a simple piece of paper, but the clerk’s pitying look told me my entire life was a lie. "The license was never finalized, Ms. Oliver. In the eyes of the state, you are single." The three-hundred-guest wedding at the Plaza and the Vogue features meant nothing. My husband, Gray Cooley, had intentionally filed the documents with a "procedural defect" so he could discard me without a legal divorce. Moments later, an iCloud invite titled "Our Little Secret" popped up on my screen. It was a photo of my best friend, Brylee, holding a positive pregnancy test at our Hamptons estate. Gray’s text to her was the final blow: "Happy anniversary, babe. This baby is the best gift. Once the trust unlocks today, we’re done with the charade." I soon discovered they were even stealing my career, reassigning my architectural masterpiece to Brylee while preparing my eviction notice. Gray's mother called me a "barren mule" in a leaked recording, mocking the infertility I suffered after saving Gray’s life in a construction accident. I wasn't a wife; I was a three-year placeholder used to secure his inheritance. How could the man I bled for treat me like a disposable prop? How could my best friend carry his child while pretending to comfort me through my darkest moments? The betrayal burned until it turned into a cold, hard stone of fury. I didn't cry. Instead, I walked into the penthouse of the Barretts, the Cooleys' most powerful rivals. I signed a marriage contract with Kane Barrett, the man the tabloids called the "Beast of Wall Street." "I want a wedding," I told his father, my voice steady and lethal. "Bigger than the one I had with Gray." If they wanted me gone, they would have to watch me become the woman who owns their world.

The sterile white of the operating room blurred, then sharpened, as Skye Sterling felt the cold clawing its way up her body. The heart monitor flatlined, a steady, high-pitched whine announcing her end. Her uterus had been removed, a desperate attempt to stop the bleeding, but the blood wouldn't clot. It just kept flowing, warm and sticky, pooling beneath her. Through heavy eyes, she saw a trembling nurse holding a phone on speaker. "Mr. Kensington," the nurse's voice cracked, "your wife... she's critical." A pause, then a sweet, poisonous giggle. Seraphina Miller. "Liam is in the shower," Seraphina's voice purred. "Stop calling, Skye. It's pathetic. Faking a medical emergency on our anniversary? Even for you, that's low." Then, Liam's bored voice: "If she dies, call the funeral home. I have a meeting in the morning." Click. The line went dead. A second later, so did Skye. The darkness that followed was absolute, suffocating, a black ocean crushing her lungs. She screamed into the void, a silent, agonizing wail of regret for loving a man who saw her as a nuisance, for dying without ever truly living. Until she died, she didn't understand. Why was her life so tragically wasted? Why did her husband, the man she loved, abandon her so cruelly? The injustice of it all burned hotter than the fever in her body. Then, the air rushed back in. Skye gasped, her body convulsing violently on the mattress. Her eyes flew open, wide and terrified, staring blindly into the darkness. Her trembling hand reached for her phone. May 12th. Five years ago. She was back.
