Chapter 1 My Story

The summer break was over and next week we will likely be resuming class. Well, as a teenage girl I suppose to be happy about it because I was going to see my friends again. But, a lot of things have happened to me during the summer break and before I left junior high, and does things taught me a very good life lesson about love, trust, friendship and relationships.

Well, before I get into the details, let me introduce myself. My name is Andrea Greene, I am a native American and also a Nigerian because my mom was a Nigerian who migrated to America to get a job. Well, she later found a whole new life here in America when she got married to my dad. My Dad was a business man, entrepreneur, and also a very funny person who loved to share funny jokes about things that happened to him when he was young. But that was one of the only good quality I can remember from him. He also own a small Marketing company. So, my dad actually got to meet my mom on a rainy day when she asked for lift in getting to my dad's company because they were no taxi in the road at that time. Well, little did my mom knew that the company which she was going to apply for a job was actually owned by the man who gave her a lift. They both chatted for a while about things they both love doing until they got the company.

Okay, here is the most funny part about my parents love story. My mom actually thought my dad was the driver to the owner of the company when she saw the name tag of the company she was going to apply for a job on his suit. Yeah! you must be wondering who even put their company's name tag on their suit? I guess my dad is the only people who can actually do something like that. LOL!

So, my mom got the chance to speak to the CEO directly because the company was small at that time, and anybody can speak to the CEO when they want to apply for a job. Well, I guess you know want will happen next and how they both meet each other, get surprised, talk, get to know which other better and eventually get close and get married. Blah blah blah!

Well, their love story was supposed to be like that of Cinderella, but I think nowadays even the happiest couples in the world are still going to be separated. So, my Dad who was like a super hero to me when I was young, broke the heart of me, my sister, and mum when the news broke out that he was cheating on her with an younger company Employee. At first I didn't want to believe it, but it is was until I saw my mum's lawyer who was working on her divorce paperwork at our house, and I eavesdropped at their conversation that's when i actually understand want happened. So, according to my mom, my dad have been cheating on her with a younger Employee for months until this Employee send pictures of them together to her Gmail without considering the fact that want she was going do will likely get her fired.

On hearing their conversation, I was heartbroken and I cried my eyes out all night long still I eventually slept off. I promised myself that I will never trust or fall in love with anybody else in my life.

I watched my husband sign the papers that would end our marriage while he was busy texting the woman he actually loved. He didn't even glance at the header. He just scribbled the sharp, jagged signature that had signed death warrants for half of New York, tossed the file onto the passenger seat, and tapped his screen again. "Done," he said, his voice devoid of emotion. That was Dante Moretti. The Underboss. A man who could smell a lie from a mile away but couldn't see that his wife had just handed him an annulment decree disguised beneath a stack of mundane logistics reports. For three years, I scrubbed his blood out of his shirts. I saved his family's alliance when his ex, Sofia, ran off with a civilian. In return, he treated me like furniture. He left me in the rain to save Sofia from a broken nail. He left me alone on my birthday to drink champagne on a yacht with her. He even handed me a glass of whiskey—her favorite drink—forgetting that I despised the taste. I was merely a placeholder. A ghost in my own home. So, I stopped waiting. I burned our wedding portrait in the fireplace, left my platinum ring in the ashes, and boarded a one-way flight to San Francisco. I thought I was finally free. I thought I had escaped the cage. But I underestimated Dante. When he finally opened that file weeks later and realized he had signed away his wife without looking, the Reaper didn't accept defeat. He burned down the world to find me, obsessed with reclaiming the woman he had already thrown away.

The sterile white of the operating room blurred, then sharpened, as Skye Sterling felt the cold clawing its way up her body. The heart monitor flatlined, a steady, high-pitched whine announcing her end. Her uterus had been removed, a desperate attempt to stop the bleeding, but the blood wouldn't clot. It just kept flowing, warm and sticky, pooling beneath her. Through heavy eyes, she saw a trembling nurse holding a phone on speaker. "Mr. Kensington," the nurse's voice cracked, "your wife... she's critical." A pause, then a sweet, poisonous giggle. Seraphina Miller. "Liam is in the shower," Seraphina's voice purred. "Stop calling, Skye. It's pathetic. Faking a medical emergency on our anniversary? Even for you, that's low." Then, Liam's bored voice: "If she dies, call the funeral home. I have a meeting in the morning." Click. The line went dead. A second later, so did Skye. The darkness that followed was absolute, suffocating, a black ocean crushing her lungs. She screamed into the void, a silent, agonizing wail of regret for loving a man who saw her as a nuisance, for dying without ever truly living. Until she died, she didn't understand. Why was her life so tragically wasted? Why did her husband, the man she loved, abandon her so cruelly? The injustice of it all burned hotter than the fever in her body. Then, the air rushed back in. Skye gasped, her body convulsing violently on the mattress. Her eyes flew open, wide and terrified, staring blindly into the darkness. Her trembling hand reached for her phone. May 12th. Five years ago. She was back.
