Chapter 1 1

Do you all want to know? The story of my everyday life. Of course you do. Mum as usual is busy with breakfast while Dad is still on bed. I just wished he could get a job. Mum pays for all the bills including my school fees. We still don't know why he quit his job. School!!! I almost forgot. (Smiling ) Come to think of it. What do I tell you? I am messed up girl who is in love with her Literature Teacher,Mr Ben. He is the best teacher for any student. He won Student's Favourite Teacher of the year three times. He is like Superman, so cute and strong. "Anna Jones !" Oh dear...that's mum.

Yes, that's my name. I'm Anna Jones of Brooks Street. My family became popular in the neighborhood after my parent's big fight. Since that day,I'm surprised that they are still married. Ever since then ,everyone calls us the Jones of Brooks Street. More like "The Broken Jones of Brooks Street." "Anna! Am I suppose to tell you when to come down for breakfast?" "Sorry mum" Wait for it,wait, wait, just a little while " Go and get your Dad " I don't need to remind you guys. My parents don't talk to each other. I'm like their communication device. Yes Dad,a deep sleeper, lazy and...never mind. "Dad? Wake up. Mum has prepared breakfast fast," " Leave me alone Anni," he said Anni...I love it when he calls me that. I prefer Anni to Anna. Anna sounds like trouble. Look at this man. He's sleeping again. Awwn...he looks happy in his sleep. I'll leave him to sleep. Sweet dreams Daddy. "Where is he? I mean the lazy man," mum enquired. " He wouldn't wake up. You know him," I answered. "He's lucky I'm in a good mood today" Talk of good mood. Thank God .Now, I can ask for money for new notes. This kind of mood is rare and opportunity they say comes but ones. "Mum?...can I ask for money now?" "There you go. How much this time?" "One thousand naira. As in 1-0-0-0" "Do you think money grows on trees, Anna?" She asked. "Please...." "Don't give me that look Anna." The puppy eyes. Always works on mums. Wait...relax... don't chew me raw. I know it doesn't work on all mums but Mrs. Jones always falls for it. "Fine! Check my purse. This is the last time," she said. "Thank you mum." I always hug her when I get something I wanted from her and she loves them. She even gave it a name; Anna of Brooks Street Hugs.. Before I forget, I need to check my school timetable for Tuesday. I have Maths, English,Economics and after the break; I have literature, two periods. Can this day get any worse? SCHOOL SCHOOL SCHOOL SCHOOL Knowledge High School, Nigeria. I'm in SS2 (Senior Secondary 2)and it's the second term. I'm an Art student who is aspiring to become Knowledge High School's Literature Teacher. Don't look at me...I can do anything to be with him. I mean literally anything. Maybe he will finally notice me. By then, it won't be a Student Teacher relationship but a Teacher Teacher relationship accepted by all. We could get married and have the chance to fu.... "Oops...sorry. Day dreaming again?" Stella Monte. The Literature Club Queen. Through her talent in writing stories, she was able to achieve the title. Last year, she published seven books. No one has ever taken the title. The Literature teacher calls her Chinua Achebe. I'm 100% sure the man won't name her after himself. Rubbish! "I'm sure if I buy you classes Stella. You still won't see. So don't apologize" "Maybe cause you are too invisible," she said walking to the class. Invisible?! Can you imagine?! Invisible... Yeah...she had a point. Mr. Ben doesn't even know me. All he knows is that I'm a student. Half of the school do not know I exist. Mmm...but that's about to change. Last term I enrolled in the Literature Club and I can only be granted access if I'm able to write a wonderful story. Why do you think I new notes? Haha.... I just need an inspiration. I can't use Mr. Ben as one because I might end up writing a porn story. "What are you thinking about," a familiar voice spoke. Jess! Teny J! God ! Can you stop doing that. "You startled me. Jess...Teny J" "Sorry...I just saw you lost in your thoughts again," he said smiling Teny J aka Mr. Weirdo and my best friend. We've been friends from primary school days and have stocked together for years. He wants to become a Lawyer. Good luck to him "Anna, I just saw the Maths Teacher." "Why did he decide to come today?" The problem is not that I hated Maths but Mr. Akan is my Sunday School Teacher ( a teacher a teaches teen section in church before the main service). He never misses a class whether sick or not. It's like he comes to class to teach only me. He expects me stay away from kids who don't answer questions in class. He acts like he's my fucking Uncle. Sorry...no swearing. He also acts like my parents asked him to keep an eye on me. I won't be surprised if mum did. You can imagine my suffering. " let's go Anna. It's too early to complain," Teny said dragging me to class. Am I complaining? Someone help me. Please....I need help.

I was finally brought back to the billionaire Vance estate after years in the grimy foster system, but the luxury Lincoln felt more like a funeral procession. My biological family didn't welcome me with open arms; they looked at me like a stain on a silk shirt. They thought I was a "defective" mute with cognitive delays, a spare part to be traded away. Within hours of my arrival, my father decided to sell me to Julian Thorne, a bitter, paralyzed heir, just to secure a corporate merger. My sister Tiffany treated me like trash, whispering for me to "go back to the gutter" before pouring red wine over my dress in front of Manhattan's elite. When a drunk cousin tried to lay hands on me at the engagement gala, my grandmother didn't protect me-she raised her silver-topped cane to strike my face for "embarrassing the family." They called me a sacrificial lamb, laughing as they signed the prenuptial agreement that stripped me of my freedom. They had no idea I was E-11, the underground hacker-artist the world was obsessed with, or that I had already breached their private servers. I found the hidden medical records-blood types A, A, and B-a biological impossibility that proved my "parents" were harboring a scandal that could ruin them. Why bring me back just to discard me again? And why was Julian Thorne, the man supposedly bound to a wheelchair, secretly running miles at dawn on his private estate? Standing in the middle of the ballroom, I didn't plead for mercy. I used a text-to-speech app to broadcast a cold, synthetic threat: "I have the records, Richard. Do you want me to explain genetics to the press, or should we leave quietly?" With the "paralyzed" billionaire as my unexpected accomplice, I walked out of the Vance house and into a much more dangerous game.

For four years, I traced the bullet scar on Chace’s chest, believing it was proof he would bleed to keep me safe. On our anniversary, he told me to wear white because "tonight changes everything." I walked into the gala thinking I was getting a ring. Instead, I stood frozen in the center of the ballroom, drowning in silk, watching him slide his mother's sapphire onto another woman's finger. Karyn Warren. The daughter of a rival family. When I begged him with my eyes to claim me, to save me from the public humiliation, he didn't flinch. He just leaned toward his Underboss, his voice amplified by the silence. "Karyn is for power. Ember is for pleasure. Don't confuse the assets." My heart didn't just break; it incinerated. He expected me to stay as his mistress, threatening to dig up my dead mother’s grave if I refused to play the obedient pet. He thought I was trapped. He thought I had nowhere to go because of my father’s massive gambling debts. He was wrong. With shaking hands, I pulled out my phone and texted the one name I was never supposed to use. Keith Mosley. The Don. The monster under Chace's bed. *I am invoking the Blood Oath. My father’s debt. I am ready to pay it.* His reply came three seconds later, buzzing against my palm like a warning. *The price is marriage. You belong to me. Yes or No?* I looked up at Chace, who was laughing with his new fiancée, thinking he owned me. I looked down and typed three letters. *Yes.*
