Which will HE choose ?

Chapter 1 Gilbert

The recent discovery riled Gilbert up as he paced restlessly in the living room. How will he tell his parents about it? What will he tell his fiance?

"Why does this girl want to kill me, a common D&C she has refused? He said to no one in particular. He couldn't understand why she wouldn't obey his demand. Was it that difficult?

" Anyway, it is not like I will marry her. So it is her choice" he said once again. He just couldn't hold it in not when it was a threat to his life. His dream life. A life he had planned out.

" Nicole is pregnant, it is not like it is my fault., if Nicole hadn't been too dumb to take care of herself, she wouldn't be pregnant" he rants again pacing continually.

" I wouldn't be in this mess"

Gilbert Walter who was trying to console his guilty conscience added but quickly fixed his face when he heard his father's voice from his study room.

Dr. Jaime Walter was seated in his study room angry about the news he learned about his son earlier that day: that

his beloved Gilbert has impregnated a high school teenager." Nicole" a few day to his wedding with Hillary Fort.

What a tragic news!

"madam, where is your son...?, Dr. Jaime Walter shouted.

As Gilbert was going to see his father in his study, One could hear Dr.Jaime Walter's voice from the living room,

"Honey, have you seen Gilbert today,?

" No, I haven't "Mrs. Walter replied. That voice Mr Walter knew it very well. Perhaps she thought he was joking. With rage in his eyes, "Mrs. Walter", his wife was stunned.

"Is this not your son,? Gilbert where are you coming from?"Dr. Jaime Walter questioned.

With the looks on his father's face,

Gilbert knew exactly what was going on. That someone has let the cat out of the cage,

"Daddy I can explain" Gilbert already knew where the conversation was heading.....he knelt,

Mrs. Walter, Gilbert's mum who has never seen his son like that was lost in confusion.

"what is going on? Mrs. Walter questioned?

" Why don't you ask your incompetent son," said Mr Walter pointing fingers at Gilbert.

Mrs. Walters has always been on the team Gilbert, because he is her only child.

"Sorry to break the news. but Nicole is pregnant with Gilbert's child" Nicole Miller is the daughter of Janet, their housemaid. She had lost her husband sir Miller in a car accident fifteen years ago who was one of Dr. Jaime's Walter staff at his hospital. Leaving Nicole Miller and Janet with nothing to hold on to. Dr.Jaime Walter felt it was his responsibility to take care of Janet and her child since her husband Pius Miller was a loyal staff member.

Ever since the incident, Dr. Jaime Walter sees them as his own family. He expected Mrs. Walter to see them like family as well.

But Mrs. Walter has refused, because she believes that a butterfly can never be a bird.

A few months back, when Gilbert came back from college, he had always had eyes for Nicole. With the fear of his mum, he had to withdraw. He tried being an elder brother to Nicole, but Nicole seems to be too attractive to him. Regardless of what Mrs. Walter thinks.

The feeling was still there, although Mrs. Walter had earlier warned Gilbert to avoid Nicole because it will be a shame if her colleagues were to find out her son is in love with her maid.

"Gilbert, tell your mother what you did"

"em....hmm, Nicole is pregnant for me."

"What is the devil's name are you saying? Mrs. Walter shouted in disbelief.

" I don't believe you, she added.

Can someone call me Nicole right now? she shouted again.

Mrs Walter rings the bell and one of the maids immediately sauntered in to the study. Mrs Walter ordered her to go fetch Nicole immediately.

The maid hurried out of the study room to find Nicole humming amorously like Cinderella unknown to her that her life was about to change.

" Nicole! A fragile brunette girl turned around with eyes as blue as the sea. Her radiant smile had the maid clearing her throat but what came next made the smile disappear. She was summoned to Mr Walter's study which was a rare thing. Was it time for her secret to be revealed.

So soon?

Anyway, she dropped whatever she was doing inhaled and exhaled. Wiped her hand on her uniform and trailed off to the the study.

"Ma, you called me"

it is very unlikely that Mrs. Walter would call Nicole. Mrs. Miller followed immediately after Nicole. On seeing Nicole, the anger inside of Mrs. Walter just fueled the more. Because her worst nightmare has finally come through.

"Nicole tell us what you told me yesterday, '' Dr. Walter commanded."

Nicole looked at her mum, then turned to the other side to look at Gilbert. This time, Mrs. Miller was confused that she had to interrupt.

"Nicole, what happened.? "

Nicole was silent, Dr. Walter who on the other hand was already angry shouted at Nicole.

"Will you speak upl"

Mrs. Miller, who was still burning with confusion, pinched Nicole. Giving her a sign that she should speak up.

"Sir, I...I said I am pregnant" she stuttered. You wouldn't blame her Mrs Walter's eyes was boring holes in her head.

" Jee...eus Christ"

Mrs Miller shouted, with both hands on her head.

" What did you just say? ? Mrs. Miller burst into tears. No, tears was drooling down Mrs. Miller's eyes.

Mrs. Walter pulls Nicole by her hair.

" You see.....this is how you trained your daughter to seduce my son. You can't keep this pregnancy at all "

"That is what I have told her since"

Gilbert quickly sided with his mother.

"Gilbert, what is wrong with you"

Dr. Walter shouted" how dare you tell a 16-year-old to do an abortion. Do you know the risk attached?" Mrs. Miller was against the idea but couldn't utter a word because of the fear of Mrs. Walter.

Dr. Walter added, .. "Gilbert, you have proven yourself not satisfied by the woman you want to marry. For that reason, I have made my judgment. You must marry Nicole"

"what? Mrs. Walter scoffed.."what about his wedding?

" He should have thought about that before he slept with Nicole.

"No way, you can't have my son marry a maid., over my dead body" she added,

"Dr. Walter smiled," where did I marry you from? you have forgotten soon that you were also the daughter of a maid." Mrs. Walter was surprised that her husband would say that in front of everyone. for once her mouth was shut.

Nicole and Mrs Miller looked at each other with surprise because the one thing Mrs walter hate is poor and the weary,

who knew she was one herself.

I was once the heiress to the Solomon empire, but after it crumbled, I became the "charity case" ward of the wealthy Hyde family. For years, I lived in their shadows, clinging to the promise that Anson Hyde would always be my protector. That promise shattered when Anson walked into the ballroom with Claudine Chapman on his arm. Claudine was the girl who had spent years making my life a living hell, and now Anson was announcing their engagement to the world. The humiliation was instant. Guests sneered at my cheap dress, and a waiter intentionally sloshed champagne over me, knowing I was a nobody. Anson didn't even look my way; he was too busy whispering possessively to his new fiancée. I was a ghost in my own home, watching my protector celebrate with my tormentor. The betrayal burned. I realized I wasn't a ward; I was a pawn Anson had kept on a shelf until he found a better trade. I had no money, no allies, and a legal trust fund that Anson controlled with a flick of his wrist. Fleeing to the library, I stumbled into Dallas Koch—a titan of industry and my best friend’s father. He was a wall of cold, absolute power that even the Hydes feared. "Marry me," I blurted out, desperate to find a shield Anson couldn't climb. Dallas didn't laugh. He pulled out a marriage agreement and a heavy fountain pen. "Sign," he commanded, his voice a low rumble. "But if you walk out that door with me, you never go back." I signed my name, trading my life for the only man dangerous enough to keep me safe.

I sat in the gray, airless room of the New York State Department of Corrections, my knuckles white as the Warden delivered the news. "Parole denied." My father, Howard Sterling, had forged new evidence of financial crimes to keep me behind bars. He walked into the room, smelling of expensive cologne, and tossed a black folder onto the steel table. It was a marriage contract for Lucas Kensington, a billionaire currently lying in a vegetative state in the ICU. "Sign it. You walk out today." I laughed at the idea of being sold to a "corpse" until Howard slid a grainy photo toward me. It showed a toddler with a crescent-moon birthmark—the son Howard told me had died in an incubator five years ago. He smiled and told me the boy's safety depended entirely on my cooperation. I was thrust into the Kensington estate, where the family treated me like a "drowned rat." They dressed me in mothball-scented rags and mocked my status, unaware that I was monitoring their every move. I watched the cousin, Julian, openly waiting for Lucas to die to inherit the empire, while the doctors prepared to sign the death certificate. I didn't understand why my father would lie about my son’s death for years, or what kind of monsters would use a child as a bargaining chip. The injustice of it burned in my chest as I realized I was just a pawn in a game of old money and blood. As the monitors began to flatline and the family started to celebrate their inheritance, I locked the door and reached into the hem of my dress. I pulled out the sharpened silver wires I’d fashioned in the prison workshop. They thought they bought a submissive convict, but they actually invited "The Saint"—the world’s most dangerous underground surgeon—into their home. "Wake up, Lucas. You owe me a life." I wasn't there to be a bride; I was there to wake the dead and burn their empire to the ground.

I was finally brought back to the billionaire Vance estate after years in the grimy foster system, but the luxury Lincoln felt more like a funeral procession. My biological family didn't welcome me with open arms; they looked at me like a stain on a silk shirt. They thought I was a "defective" mute with cognitive delays, a spare part to be traded away. Within hours of my arrival, my father decided to sell me to Julian Thorne, a bitter, paralyzed heir, just to secure a corporate merger. My sister Tiffany treated me like trash, whispering for me to "go back to the gutter" before pouring red wine over my dress in front of Manhattan's elite. When a drunk cousin tried to lay hands on me at the engagement gala, my grandmother didn't protect me-she raised her silver-topped cane to strike my face for "embarrassing the family." They called me a sacrificial lamb, laughing as they signed the prenuptial agreement that stripped me of my freedom. They had no idea I was E-11, the underground hacker-artist the world was obsessed with, or that I had already breached their private servers. I found the hidden medical records-blood types A, A, and B-a biological impossibility that proved my "parents" were harboring a scandal that could ruin them. Why bring me back just to discard me again? And why was Julian Thorne, the man supposedly bound to a wheelchair, secretly running miles at dawn on his private estate? Standing in the middle of the ballroom, I didn't plead for mercy. I used a text-to-speech app to broadcast a cold, synthetic threat: "I have the records, Richard. Do you want me to explain genetics to the press, or should we leave quietly?" With the "paralyzed" billionaire as my unexpected accomplice, I walked out of the Vance house and into a much more dangerous game.

The sterile white of the operating room blurred, then sharpened, as Skye Sterling felt the cold clawing its way up her body. The heart monitor flatlined, a steady, high-pitched whine announcing her end. Her uterus had been removed, a desperate attempt to stop the bleeding, but the blood wouldn't clot. It just kept flowing, warm and sticky, pooling beneath her. Through heavy eyes, she saw a trembling nurse holding a phone on speaker. "Mr. Kensington," the nurse's voice cracked, "your wife... she's critical." A pause, then a sweet, poisonous giggle. Seraphina Miller. "Liam is in the shower," Seraphina's voice purred. "Stop calling, Skye. It's pathetic. Faking a medical emergency on our anniversary? Even for you, that's low." Then, Liam's bored voice: "If she dies, call the funeral home. I have a meeting in the morning." Click. The line went dead. A second later, so did Skye. The darkness that followed was absolute, suffocating, a black ocean crushing her lungs. She screamed into the void, a silent, agonizing wail of regret for loving a man who saw her as a nuisance, for dying without ever truly living. Until she died, she didn't understand. Why was her life so tragically wasted? Why did her husband, the man she loved, abandon her so cruelly? The injustice of it all burned hotter than the fever in her body. Then, the air rushed back in. Skye gasped, her body convulsing violently on the mattress. Her eyes flew open, wide and terrified, staring blindly into the darkness. Her trembling hand reached for her phone. May 12th. Five years ago. She was back.
