A Perfect Crime. (The Detective's Quest)

From the distance, the screeching sound of the car wheels against the Madrid highway could be heard clearly and confirming visuals, an accurate drifting to a perfect angular turn brought in view a Hennessy venom Gt. It seemed the driver was escaping from the police because following the car from behind, were lots of police vehicles trailing him. They probably wanted to tail him down considering the heist that was executed at the Central Bank of Madrid.

They believe he might be a clue to getting others since the vehicle was the only one they were able to track down during the chase, meaning that they came with just one vehicle for the robbery and from the way things were moving, they would probably get to the driver in due time.

Lorenzo was the driver of the vehicle, a legendary badass and a getaway driver. According to his records, he had successfully helped robbers to get away without any traces and one of his greatest achievement was when he lured the attention of twenty-five police vans away from the main robbers, they all focused on him and at the end, he still got away without being caught. That was his kind of thing and it seemed he was about to repeat history for the second time. He started robbery when he was ten years old as a pickpocket, later in his life, he metamorphosed to a novice driveway accomplish which gave him the plight to become a legendary badass. One funny thing about him was that no one ever dictated to him what to do, he doesn’t obey orders and that made working with him a very dangerous game. Apart from that, he was a very reasonable driver and faithful with matters concerning money since he knew he would always be the end point of every heist he was part of.

As most robbers do, he had no family record, no friend, no relative and no wife, he was on his own. Everyone believed he was an orphan but the only clear story was that he lost his dad when he was twelve and since then, life had treated him really hard. From story told, his mother left him and his sister and ran away to where she couldn’t be found and just before he made up his mind to step up his robbery game with his sister, things didn’t turn out well. His sister got shot in one of their robberies and that made him to tighten up his game, if not for anything but at least for his late sister.

For the very first time he was trusting someone in a heist, he always believed in the aftermath and not the process, but then, he had every reason to believe the plan, the process and eventually the aftermath. He was driving without knowing the next fate he stood to face but just then, he had to believe and stick to the plan. He remembered vividly before the plan for the heist started, that very night they all arrived, he met a lot of successful robbers like him who had excelled in their different aspects. That was when he knew that the heist wasn’t going to be as usual, it was much bigger than what he imagined; stepping into the bank of Madrid to rob thirty million euros. That was like a dream come true.

The mastermind behind the heist introduced himself as Mr Wang, a Chinese detective. He was popularly called Elite by everyone, maybe because of the kind of knowledge and wisdom he possessed. As a detective, he was a topnotch, hitting every case he reviewed with undoubted first class touch. He was very good at it, and the last case he handled was quite tougher, it was completely a locked room scenario which made it almost impossible to crack. But before the case would be made known, it’s good to know how the heist all started.

That night of their arrival, Lorenzo met two other persons, with Elite inclusive, they were four in number gathered in a secluded hotel room for the plan on how to get the heist done. The first thing he told them was what would entice them, that they were going in to steal thirty million euros. Lorenzo, who was very eager to know how possible it would be to achieve such asked Mr Elite how they could possibly gain entrance into the Central Bank of Madrid with all securities in check.

“ We will get in the normal way everyone else did, with your earpiece, you will always be on alert on what to do next. Be less assured that this heist would be successful and it would probably prepare us for the main heist coming up ahead”, the detective explained to them.

Then, Lorenzo realized what he had signed in for but just as he was still trying to figure out few things, one of the robbers asked the detective.

“ Then how do we escape after the robbery”, Alicia was in a haste to know the end point of the heist even before the plan was in set.

She was a world class computer operator, with cyber intelligence in all manner of hacking and breaching cyber securities. She was good at tracking and causing the unforeseen traffic jam. There was one certain time she went for an operation in Mumbai, India. She caused the world most dangerous and unalarmed traffic jam that led to the damage of several individual properties and that was the end of the police chase. She was very good at what she did and lived her life like a living ghost. Tracking her wasn’t an easy task but the detective was able to reach to her, the way he did that was still a mystery.

He was cool with their questions and answered them accordingly even when he wasn’t yet done with the plan, he looked at Lorenzo and at that moment, he knew he was the end point of the game but not as he had ever imagined. The detective went ahead to announce to everyone that he would be the person playing the main card to ascertain the success of their robbery. He was confused on how he would be the final checkmate of the plan, maybe that’s what was in his mind but he just needed to view the plan from another dimension to be sure of what he was thinking.

Just as he approached the bridgehead leading to Madrid’s boarder, the police were already waiting for him at the other end and since another set followed him from behind, he was left helpless at the center of the bridge. He had several guns pointing at him from behind and in front of him. He stopped the vehicle as the police stood far away from both direction, he was given the final chance to come down from the vehicle and surrender himself to avoid being shot. His two hands were in the air as he stepped out from the vehicle, he remembered vividly what the detective told him to do when that particular moment comes.

“ once they know that you are planning to leave Madrid with such amount of money, they would block you at the sure end. How do you make this possible? The route you take will determine that. I will advise you to take the route that has the bridgehead because it would be easier for you to escape. Surrender the very moment they thought they have got you and with your hands in the air, fling into the sea and there would be a speed boat waiting for you beneath”.

He just trusted the process and before they knew it, he was off into the body of the water. Everyone thought it was a way to end his miserable life only to be shocked at what they saw. A speed boat set of to the point of his landing and picked him up, no one was certain of the next direction they went to and that left the police with the only hope of recovering the money from the car since they lost the culprit. They approached the scene where he left the car before jumping off the bridge just to recover the stolen money but were bewildered at what they saw, the car was completely empty and seemed they made the wrong chase.

It was all part of the plan, Alicia asked earlier how they would escape after the robbery without being caught and he gave them the actual hint on how to run the heist perfectly well without traces.

“ Before we step into the bank, literally, I’m talking about Lorenzo and Miguel because Alicia and I would be on the outside. This is the plan, she will hack the whole security cameras and telephone signals would be harnessed by Alicia and that would give us the clear ground to step in. The outside security won’t be able to get the clue of what’s going on inside till after the heist, then from the inside, there would be no shooting and no bloodshed, just initiate the fear and get everyone on the main banking hall, as one person does that, the other takes the manager inside the bulk room and get the money from there. The heist would only last for ten minutes before the attention of the outside security will be drawn. Before they could suspect anything, you guys are already heading to the car outside, the police chase wouldn’t be a problem because it’s very necessary for us to escape easily. Just as you are leaving the bank, the signals would be restored and of course, the manager wouldn’t want to lose such amount of money, he would call the police and then, the chase is on” he waited to know if there would be any reaction.

Miguel asked how the police chase would make them escape very easily without being caught. The detective always had an answer to their questions and tried very much to make his plans distinct.

“ The second similar car would be waiting right before the underground connecting route that leads to the Madrid’s Southern district, it will have the same plate number as a copied. Alicia and I would go ahead of you guys and wait there, on your arrival, we will swap cars and while the three of us make use of the underground route, Lorenzo would distract the police with the empty vehicle. With his skills in driveway, he would be able to make it to the bridge on time. Be assured that the police might be waiting on the other end and that’s when plan El finito would take place. A speed boat will bring you directly to where you would meet us at the sea port”.

Miguel was the muscle guy, an ex military who got denied of all his pensions. He was in his late thirties and that was because there was some kind of injustice that led to him being an ex military. He has also served as a personal bodyguard to the Inspector of Police and had also gone to several life threatening missions. The last one that led to his expulsion was a case of rescue. Most times, the military don’t go on a rescue mission with matters concerning civilians. They see civilians case especially when it posses damage to any governmental establishment or government properties as collateral damage. That means they wouldn’t be charged guilty of shooting a civilian in sight just to control or save the nation’s property. In his last mission, instead of saving the selfish interest of the government, he chose to do otherwise and saved the life of few civilians and that was how his downfall started.

The case became worst that everyone blamed him because he was in the best position to save the government property but he couldn’t do it just because of the life of the poor citizens that would be in the line. He got expelled from the military for a heavy crime of disobedience to the higher order and since then, he found succor in destroying the so-called governmental establishments.

The successful robbers who were under the stronger guide of the detective were already inside the cruise ship, making merry and having fun for their successful heist. They looked all happy and fulfilled apart from the detective, they didn’t even know his intentions for the robbery and what prompted him. They felt there was no need to ask since they had the money they wanted and were already waiting for the percentage that would be allocated to them.

“ I’m glad you guys are rejoicing, but just know that the next heist wouldn’t be as easy as this one”, he finally got them to think.

“How do you mean, are we robbing the Bank of China or what?” Lorenzo asked jokingly since he knew they were actually heading to China.

“ Yes we shall and that’s why we need to get everything and everyone prepared. This heist was just a preparation for the huge game we have before us and new persons would be joining as well. I chose you guys specifically for this Madrid robbery because I know you people had scores to settle with the Madrid government already, we have a bigger game ahead of us like I said earlier”, he said something that none of them expected to hear.
