Ask for the moon Chapter 1 One

Chapter 1

I looked around at the other porters that I could see because they were wearing bellhop uniforms, so I was able to identify what they were. Right now, I will apply here at a hotel that my friend is staying at. I wonder if I sit here? Wearing a black blazer, white sleeved top, and a suiting bottom above my knees and heels. I walked confidently, I looked at my wristwatch to realize that I was too early. There were a few people who looked at me if I was confident before, but now my stomach suddenly turned upside down as if they also knew that I was just acting confident.

The other porters smiled at me as they all knew why I was here because of what I was wearing. Mom and Dad don't want me to work, they want me to focus on my studies and not work hard to earn money. I can keep up. Fortunately, I have a friend who works here and let me work. In the distance, I saw Angel greeting other people he meets and behaving toward him.

"I'll accompany you to Ms. Faith, the Supervisor of Guest Services," he pulled her along. "Don't worry because that's kind and we've closed it. I also told you that my friend will apply which is you," she said and looked around.

I clutched my chest as I felt an intense nervousness. Even if Angel said that Ms. Faith is kind, I still feel a little nervous. Angel continued to pull me and stopped in front of a metal door, twisted hard to open.

Angel smiled "Good morning, Ms. Faith," Angel greeted her. "My friend is here to apply," she uttered and excused herself.

I took a deep breath, I even gave the door that Angel came out of with an afterthought. I immediately walked up to a woman with a smile on her face. My estimate is that he is only a few years older than me. How can she look pretty with her pencil-cut and white plain blouse?!

"I'm Yoreh Selene Antares," I introduced and greeted her, holding out my hand.

"I'm the Supervisor of Guest Services, Faith Villanueva," she shook my hand and smiled. "Take a seat," she ordered and pointed to the seat in front of her.

"I already sent my resume to this hotel's online application," I mumbled.

I thought several times if I should really apply since I have no experience but I also want to fill my needs! Buy trendy clothes! Buy something else. I just really don't want even the things I want to buy to come from the money my parents give me. It's really different when you see something that you worked hard to buy. I worked hard, not my parents.

Mrs. Faith nodded "Yes, we read your resume. So, you're still studying, right?" she asked while playing with the parker ballpoint pen she was holding. I wanted to scold her because what the hell?! That's Parker, Ma'am.

"Yes, M.W.F and the rest are days when I'm available," I desperately said.

We talked a lot and sometimes we even laughed because of what she said. Angel is right, Ms. is kind. Faith. I was eventually assigned as a front desk clerk. He also said that in some hotels, a degree and years of experience are required before entering such a job. I was also told that I can start tomorrow because tomorrow is Tuesday and I don't have school. I should be able to allocate eight hours to each job and the salary ends every fifteen days, which is not bad.

Fortunately, Ms. has principles. Faith that "An applicant's ability is not based on degree or experience but on how far she can handle it." at first I didn't get it because I was really slow and now when I go home I get it as if he is saying "Don't be judgmental about what the other person has achieved" and "Don't let it be the basis."

A while ago, I was accompanied by Ms. Faith to see how the front desk clerks are doing. It wasn't too difficult so I was a little excited. I smiled and looked at the paper bag I was holding. This is where my uniform is kept for tomorrow so I carefully put it on my bed.

I'm here now in the apartment Angel and I rent. I got dressed and cooked because Angel was coming home later that night. He also works 8 hours, all I know is that he is room service. Delivers food to guests who don't want to go downstairs to buy their own food. After I finished cooking and eating, I just read my notes because maybe on Wednesday our other prof will have a surprise quiz again.

BSEd- Social Studies or known as Bachelor in Secondary Education Major in Social Studies is the degree I took. Yes, I will be a teacher. Because Mama likes us and we are a family of teachers. I have so many dreams that I don't know what to choose. I want to be a nurse or doctor but I can't because I'm afraid of blood. I mean, I feel weak when I see a wound with blood coming out! I also want to be an architect or engineer. I also have many passions. Passionate about painting and designing gowns but maybe I'm not passionate enough. Sometimes I also wanted to be a secret agent but I didn't tell anyone because I just wanted to be a secret.

"How are you, Yoreh Selene my friend?!" Angel asked after entering my room. "I heard from the front desk clerks? You can do it! You can do it," she smiled and hugged me.

I took a deep breath and hugged her too. This friend of mine is really clingy but just now, I wonder why. I laughed "Why are you clingy now, Angel? What do you want?" I asked and let go of the hug. I raised an eyebrow at him and he just pouted and stared at me.

"I'll help you do our research paper. I was assigned to the introduction and significance of the study but I'm about to finish the intro on the signifi---"

I cut her off and nodded "All right, I'll do it for the significance of the study. I know you've already tired so I'll take a break and take care of it as a thank you because you recruited me to the J Hotel. I'll take it I'll just write down the explanation," I promised and closed the filler I was holding earlier and opened the laptop that was on the study table.

"Omg! Thank you! I really can't because I was sleepy with too many guests earlier," she pouted while handing flash disk drive. "That's where the others assigned to my other groupmates might help. Thank you very much!" he happily promised and yawned.

I just nodded and smiled. When he left my room, I started to do what he asked me to do. Just always help us both. Through my ups and downs, thin and thick she's always there beside me and cheering me up.

She is Angel Delos Reyes.

She is a good friend of mine.

My unique and noisy friend.

Angel is a rare person because she's real.

For me, what he is doing is easy, it just requires a broad understanding.

I heard someone turn the doorknob "Are you about to finish? If not, I'll go to sleep and take care of it. I'll do it tomorrow at school," she smiled at me.

I looked up at him and smiled. "It's done, you'll be in charge of editing the format," she handed her his flash drive.

She smiled "Thank you! Go ahead and drink that and go to sleep. It starts tomorrow, right?" she sincerely said.

"You're welcome," I promised and drank the milk he brought.

"Alright," she said before shutting off the door.

After I finished drinking milk, I fell into my soft bed. It was eleven o'clock at night so I closed my eyes tightly.

And all went black.

I woke up because of the light that hit my face. I can still hear the crash of some kind of metal below, probably our other things in the kitchen like glasses, spoons, and forks that Angel is washing are falling down. The apartment is tiled and my bedroom door is open so I can hear it. They say that when a fork falls, a guest will come. I wonder how about when the spoon fell? Have a visitor coming?

"Yoreh! Wake up! Your shift is at 10 am today!" I heard Angel shout.

I looked at the wall clock realizing it was 8:30. So I got up to go down. I saw him busy cooking eggs and fried rice. I went straight to the c.r. to wash up.

"What time is your shift?" I asked after washing up and stretching a little.

She looked at me while holding a pot holder "Tomorrow 10:30 pa,"

My brows furrowed "Tonight 10:30? Night shift?" I asked while placing the plate on the dining table.

She rolled her eyes "If I had the night shift tomorrow, I would have been gaping and sleeping,"

"Okay!" I said sarcastically and made a thumbs-up gesture.

"You'll be ahead of me because it's exactly 5 PM. You'll be out with me at 5:30. Do you wait for me or will you go home first?" he asked before putting food on our plate.

I glared at her "it's only 30 minutes apart, we should probably be together,"

Thin laughter escaped "Edi wow!" she said.

I continued to eat while he was babbling. He was talking about how many guests there were last night so he was very tired going back and forth. I just nodded to him while continuing to eat. When we were done, I was the first one to take a shower because he said he was the one to wash and I was the one who washed and cooked in the evening.

I looked at the mirror when I saw my reflection. Wearing a white fitted skirt above the knee, color white suit, black sleeved top, and black 2 inches heels. I smiled because of the satisfaction. I approached my wristwatch, necklace, and earrings that were on my study table.

Angel's pounding continued while walking to the boat. He even asked me why the wheel turned. Why am I breathing? It's all nonsense but I laugh because of his useless questions that I know just irritate me.

We stopped walking and took shelter in the waiting shed where a bus stopped. The hotel we are going to is not far away but since we are in the Philippines, we will probably run out of time because of the traffic. We immediately boarded a bus that stopped.

"Here we go again," I said annoyed while running my fingers through my hair when the bus stopped because of the traffic.

"Get used to it, Yoreh. Being stuck in traffic is part of our daily routine," Angel lazily said with her narrowed eyes.

I just blinked in extreme irritation. Seriously? There is really no solution to this?! Well, welcome to the Philippines. "I'll wait for you later. Go to your quarters," I said when we entered the hotel, thanking God.

Angel looked at me holding a hand over her chest "Ow! I'm touched, okay! Good luck!" she said and waved her hands and turned around.

As Ms. taught me. Faith, when I arrived here yesterday, I was going straight to the place where we Front Desk clerks were. I was carrying a small sling bag that I placed in the small cabinet under the table.

"You are Yoreh Selene Antares?" a petite girl asked.

I looked at him, he looked at me. The curiosity on his face is obvious.

I smiled and nodded "Yoreh Selene Antares and you?" I introduced myself and gestured my hand.

She shook my hand "Mawi Bernadeth Roscova. You are really beautiful," she smiled. I know.

I smiled "Are you talking about me behind my back? Who are you?" I asked with surprise but also amusement. I let out a soft laugh when I saw that he was shocked by my question.

She pouted "A while ago, I heard from other bellhops that Ms. Faith was being interviewed. They said that she is beautiful, so it must be you because I don't see any new faces here and you're beautiful!" I nodded and smiled. I feel that he is also a working student because it is obvious that we are the same age.

"A-ah, thanks for the compliment," I said shyly.

As I expected, what we did was easy. I just verified the reservation of the guests and if there is no reservation I do it immediately. Accepting credit cards, issuing pass cards, and responding to those concerned. Sometimes Mawi also helps me with the answers. I also watch and listen to how he entertains the guests so I still have ideas. I didn't have lunch because I wasn't hungry. I just went out of the hotel and got some fresh air but I immediately came back because instead of a breeze I was inhaling smoke. I was fixed when a woman approached me.

I smiled "Good Afternoon, Miss. How can I help you?" I asked while standing straight.

"I would like to meet Mr. Cyrus Lavilla. He is not answering my calls on his cellphone number," she said while looking repeatedly at the time on her wrist watch.

I smiled and nodded "So his name is Cyrus Elio Lavilla," I said while looking at the record book. Room 26029. "Sorry Miss but based on our policy we cannot provide information about his stay here but this is the telephone and you can call him using it,"

He nodded and I connected the number to the telephone number which is 26029. He called immediately and I think there's still no response. I wanted to ask but I held back.

"Still no response," she said annoyed "I'll leave a message,"

"Sure, just write it down on paper, and here's the ballpen," I said and gave the ballpen and paper. "I'll just give him this message, Miss."

He just smiled and wrote. I watched him while writing after he thanked me before turning his back and leaving. My shift will be over in just one hour. Sometimes I'm still stupid because I just don't have a trip.

"Oh My God!" I heard Mawi giggle so I looked at her.

I immediately looked at what he was looking at. A man who distinguished himself with his charisma and manly posture appeared in front of me, smirking. He raised his eyebrows when he noticed that I'm staring too much.

He chuckled "I am Cyrus Elio Lavilla from room 26029. Is there any bullshit message for me?" he asked while touching his lips.

It's like he's attracting me with every look he makes. I swear if the male guests here are always like that, I might go in naked. I swallowed hard, in my 20 years of existence! just now I'm confused! What do I look for now? Am I pretty good enough?!

The heavy iron gates of the Wilderness Correction Camp groaned as they released me after three years of state-sponsored hell. I stood on the dirt road, clutching a plastic bag that held my entire life, waiting for the family that claimed they sent me there for "rehab." My brother, Brady, picked me up in a luxury SUV only to throw me out onto a deserted highway in the middle of a brewing storm. He told me I was a "public relations nightmare" and that the rain might finally wash the "stink" of the camp off me. He drove away, leaving me to limp miles through the mud on a snapped ankle. When I finally dragged myself to our family estate, my mother didn't offer a hug; she gasped in horror because my muddy clothes were ruining her Italian marble. They didn't give me my old room back. Instead, they banished me to a moldy gardener’s shack and hired a "babysitter" to make sure I didn't embarrass them further. My sister, Kaleigh, stood there in white cashmere, pretending to cry while clinging to her fiancé, Ambrose—the man who had once been mine. They all treated me like a volatile junkie, refusing to acknowledge that Kaleigh was the one who planted the drugs in my bag three years ago. They wanted to believe I was broken so they wouldn't have to feel guilty about the "wellness retreat" that was actually a torture chamber. I sat in the dark of that shed, feeling the cooling gel on the cigarette burns that covered my arms, and realized they had made a fatal mistake. They thought they had erased me, but I had returned with a roadmap of scars and a hidden satellite phone. At dinner, I didn't beg for their love. I simply rolled up my sleeves and showed them the price of their silence. As the wine spilled and the lies crumbled, I sent a single text to the only person I trusted: "I'm in. Let them simmer." The hunt was finally on.

I was once the heiress to the Solomon empire, but after it crumbled, I became the "charity case" ward of the wealthy Hyde family. For years, I lived in their shadows, clinging to the promise that Anson Hyde would always be my protector. That promise shattered when Anson walked into the ballroom with Claudine Chapman on his arm. Claudine was the girl who had spent years making my life a living hell, and now Anson was announcing their engagement to the world. The humiliation was instant. Guests sneered at my cheap dress, and a waiter intentionally sloshed champagne over me, knowing I was a nobody. Anson didn't even look my way; he was too busy whispering possessively to his new fiancée. I was a ghost in my own home, watching my protector celebrate with my tormentor. The betrayal burned. I realized I wasn't a ward; I was a pawn Anson had kept on a shelf until he found a better trade. I had no money, no allies, and a legal trust fund that Anson controlled with a flick of his wrist. Fleeing to the library, I stumbled into Dallas Koch—a titan of industry and my best friend’s father. He was a wall of cold, absolute power that even the Hydes feared. "Marry me," I blurted out, desperate to find a shield Anson couldn't climb. Dallas didn't laugh. He pulled out a marriage agreement and a heavy fountain pen. "Sign," he commanded, his voice a low rumble. "But if you walk out that door with me, you never go back." I signed my name, trading my life for the only man dangerous enough to keep me safe.

The Pierre Hotel smelled of old money and stale ambition, but all I could taste was the copper of my own rage. I stood in the back of the ballroom, a "mute" shadow in a silk dress, watching my sister Brande play the grieving saint on stage. She wiped away a fake tear, telling the crowd I was too "unstable" to attend my own engagement party. In reality, I was watching her share a secret, intimate squeeze with my fiancé, Chase Sterling, right under the blinding spotlight. When I finally hit "execute" and projected the video of them together in a hotel suite for the entire elite crowd to see, the room went cold. But the nightmare was just beginning. Instead of apologizing, my father crushed his scotch glass and told me to fix the mess. He demanded I issue a public statement claiming I had a mental breakdown and "hallucinated" the whole thing. "If you don't corroborate the Deepfake story, I'll have you committed to a facility with barred windows," he hissed. Brande just smirked from the corner, mocking me for being a "mute waste of space" who didn't even realize my own trust fund had paid for the diamonds around her neck. I realized then that in this family, silence wasn't a disability—it was a target. They thought because I didn't speak, I didn't have a voice. They thought they could use my silence to bury the truth and save their precious stock prices. They were wrong. I didn't just leak a video; I had the keys to every secret they ever tried to hide. I walked out of that hotel and straight into the black sedan of Julian Curtis, my father’s most ruthless rival and the only man who knew what really happened the night of the blizzard in Aspen. I handed him the encrypted files that would trigger a hostile takeover of my family’s empire. As the city blurred past, I looked at the man who held my future in his hands and typed one final message on my phone. "I'm not here to be saved. I'm here to be the knife."
