A Story of Hatred, Love, and Betrayal. . . . . . . . . . Would you be willing to sacrifice everything and stay in the dark where no one dares to ask you the reason why?
Rose POV:
"Rosiiiee!" Shouted the girl while entering the campus. She's Maureen Gonzales-Smith. Maui for short. Half Filipina, half American. White skinned, petite girl and a kind hearted soul. Not to mention being the most popular girl in campus. "Where have you been? I'm looking for you elsewhere but I couldn't find you!" She exclaimed.
"You already found me." I hissed.
Maui rolled her eyes with a smile, showing her deep dimples and glowing white teeth. "Whatever. So what? Are you gonna come or yes? No is not an option."
She's talking about the final league where Universities are battling for a championship in basketball game including our campus, St. Michael Business School here in Florida.
"You know I can't. I needed to be home for dinner." I received a message earlier from my father saying to be back home by dinner for an important announcement.
"Your father was obviously threatening you with his messages. Don't you ever think of running away and not to attend that dinner with important announcement?" Maui jokingly said in a serious tone. She new that my father isn't treating me like his own flesh and blood. Rico Carter is a powerful man in corporate world. He's often seen in a news and magazines for his success. But recently, he was accused of embezzling hundreds of million due to the expansion of his business in shipping line. The police is still investigating but the news spread fast affecting his business and investors pulling out their investments.
"It's not like that, Maui." I contest.
"What's not like that? Ever since your mom left, he never treated you the way a father should treat their princesses. You're always on a verge of dying whenever I rescued you from his drunken state. If you're only letting me report him, I'm pretty sure, you'll be free from that demon." Maui gritted her teeth.
Yes. My father is hurting me whenever he's drunk. He said that it's the only way I can pay for being the reason why my mother passed away.
"You know it's not your fault if your mom is a superhero and wanted to save her precious daughter from falling. That's a true essence of being a mother. But it seems that your father isn't seeing it the way it should be." She added.
"Enough of it, Maui. I don't wanna talk about it. It makes me sad and you know how much I missed mom." I tried to be calm and retain my posture but I know that Maui realized that I'm begining to shaken and just trying to stand up straight. But hearing how mom died because of me, guilt eats the entire me.
Maui understands it and changed the topic. "Okay. So, still no with the championship game, right? Can you atleast spare time for yourself?"
I smiled flashing my dimples and in a cute manner. "Go now. You'll be late if you kept on asking me. You know I can't." I said while pushing her to the exit.
