Chapter 1 The bloodshed

★ ADIRA ★

“Do not come out of here, Adira.” Papa held my hand in his and stared deeply into my eyes. “Remember, your name means strong. You have to be strong no matter what and when this is over, I'll teach you to be a strong wolf like me.” He smiled weakly at me. Yet, I could see the sadness emanating from his eyes.

I nodded my head in response but I said nothing. Tears glistened and then fell as I watched papa switched into his wolf form. I stared after his retreating wolf figure until he was out of sight.

My whole pack was invaded by our enemies, the silver moon pack. We had been at war for ages, way before Papa and Mama even had me. Papa said the Alpha from the silver moon pack was his own blood brother until, he was chosen as the rightful alpha to take over the blue moon pack, which was our own pack.

His brother, Dylan didn't seem to take the news properly. He was furious as to why his own younger brother would succeed him after working so hard to lead the pack. He felt he was stronger compared to my father. He felt he was more powerful and logical. So why the hell would the moon goddess deem my own father to be the Alpha over him?

He left our pack in search of better life elsewhere. To him, our family had casted him out like a plague. He held grudges to not only my father but the whole pack instead. Fortunately for him, the Alpha from the silver-moon needed a successor. He was weak and could no longer lead his pack in time of war and dire need. So he bestowed the title to uncle Dylan thereby, making him the new Alpha.

So I guessed that was what this war was all about. Several years later, Alpha Dylan strategized on how to attack us, on how to show my father who the strongest amongst them was.

I couldn't bare to watch everyone fight for their life, while I stood still, hiding away. Although I haven't attained my wolf form, I felt I needed to do something. Perhaps, get a silver dagger to attack the enemies.

Aside from everyone in our pack, I was the only one bestowed with a gift from the moon goddess. I can make out fire from my hands, just by concentrating and picturing it to do whatever I wanted it to. But sadly, my power alongside my wolf form weren't that developed.

Father said I needed to wield my inner strength. That I had a lot of potential in me that was hidden away in fear. Nevertheless, that was why they decided to name me 'Adira' meaning strong, noble and powerful. But at this point in my life, I felt the other way round. I was too weak to fight. Moreover, powerful was a very weird word to use for me.

Every other wolf around my age could switch into their wolf form and have begun to learn their fighting skills alongside the ability to mind link, but I have learnt nothing.

I inhaled deeply and exhaled afterwards. Then I tried to make an impact on Father's training. Focusing my mind on my palm, I imagined the fire coming out of my hands and consuming the enemies whole. But the flame flickered for a few seconds and went off.

Cussing quietly beneath my breath, I tried severally and failed at each attempt. Frustrated and tired of trying, I peeped through the hole of cabin, father hid me in and what I saw, made me gasp out in shock. Alpha Dylan was stabbing his claws ferociously into father's chest.

Father slowly slipped back to his human form, blood oozed out in spurts from his inflicted wound and trickled down in rivulet to the floor. Hot fresh tears brimmed my eyelashes as I watched him. I wanted to go and save him, he stretched out his hand as if he was calling out to me. And it took every ounce of strength left in me not to scream out loud.

My heart was beating rapidly against my chest. At this rate, it might as well jump right out of it. I bit my lower lip and placed my hand over my mouth to restrain me from crying out loud. I broke into tiny sobs. All of a sudden, something else grasped my attention.

They brought out my mother from her hiding place. Father had hidden her away because she was pregnant with another child. After seventeen years of giving birth to me, the moon goodness finally blessed them with the fruit of the womb.

One of the enemies still in his human form, brought out his sword to slash her right across her chest. But Alpha Dylan stopped him.

“Diego....bring her here. I want my brother to see her die before him!” He commanded, switching into his human form then he picked up a leather jacket on the floor and wrapped it around his naked torso.

Immediately, Diego did as instructed by dragging mom roughly with him and ignoring her several wail. She is pregnant! Dammit! I balled my fingers into fist. At this point, I knew I needed to do something. They could kill me too, but at least I'd know I died while trying.

So the moment Alpha Dylan raised off the sword, I screamed out loud rushing out of my hiding place. Everything stood still for a moment and he spun round quickly to look at me.

With a swift manoeuvre, he switched into his wolf form and pounced on me. My chest heaved and my breath hitched. I looked over to my dying father, who had tears pooled up in his eyes as he shook his head vigorously, hoping nothing bad happens to me. “Don't lay your fucking finger on her, Dylan.”

Alpha Dylan chuckled in his worm form, soiling my face with his filthy saliva. “You just made everything easier for me. Now with all your pack dead, it would be a pleasure to give you one last parting gift. I'd kill your precious Luna first and then your weak daughter.”

I tried to struggle free out of his grip. But each try got his claws plunging deep into my skin and I winced in pain.

“Kill me, Dylan....take your revenge on me, but not my family.” Dad said to him.

“You have no right to tell me what to do!” He bellowed. “kill the damn Luna!” Almost at once, the blade slashed through the air into my mothers neck and a loud yell resonated from my quivering lips.

“Mother!”

As soon as I said that, the tree beside us engulfed in flames and crashed over the person that killed mother. But it didn't spare my mother too. Both of them consumed in flames right before my eyes.

Alpha Dylan stared at me in shock. He looked from the burning flames back to me. “Did you just do that?” He roared angrily but I shook my head in response.

My whole world was crashing right before my eyes. I killed my mother! I killed my mother, I thought to myself. Although, the blade had already sent her off, I felt I ended it all with my stupid gift. For the first time in my entire life, my gift worked. But it worked against me.

I wept bitterly. My muscles were aching still Alpha Dylan did not let me go. He switched back into his human form and went after my father. He picked up the sword from the floor and plunged it deep into his chest.

Father let out a loud groan and blood spluttered out of his mouth then his body became limp. “No! No! No!” I yelled.

I scrambled to my feet and tried to run off. Even though Alpha Dylan had succeeded in killing my parent, I knew my father and mother would not want me dead. And also, I didn't want to die.

With every bit of my existence, I seek revenge. And that was the major reason why I wanted to run away now and fight tomorrow. But Alpha Dylan was quick to catch me.

“Where do you think you're running off to? ” he asked with his deep icy blue eyes sending shivers into my spine.

“Let me go! Let me go!” I yelled on top of my lungs.

However, he ran a slap across my cheeks and my skin burned from his painful touch. “I am going to keep you, Adira. Thank your worthless star that you aren't going to die now. But I'm going to make you regret your whole existence. You would hate your father for the pain he made you pass through, and you will cuss with every single breath left in you.”

Having said that, he whisked me away with him. I felt too weak to fight because I knew deep down that I wouldn't win. Too sad to cry and worst of all, I hated myself for being weak.

I stared at the corpses of our pack lying dead on the floor. While the non warriors were being captured and taken over to the silver moon pack.

Then my eyes fell on my mother's carcass, and my father's remain. “I'm sorry I couldn't save you both, father and mother but I promise to live up to my name. I will make Alpha Dylan and his whole pack pay for everything they did today. Maybe not tonight or tomorrow, but definitely someday. I promise you that.” I said to myself and darkness consumed me.
