THE SECOND LUNA

The storm made the clouds darker as the amount of lightning in the sky grew. The members of the pack uncontrollably shivered as they heard a deafening crack of thunder.

The Spring Pack has never been harmed despite the fact that storms during werewolf pregnancies typically portended bad luck.

It was different today, though.

To find out when the pack doctor would deliver the news, nearly half of the pack's members gathered outside the pack ward. News of the pack's new heir.

His eagerly awaited heir!

A wrinkled-faced woman stepped out as soon as the double doors were pushed open. She went by the name "Spring Hospital Messenger" and wore an eye patch over her left eye.

Omega Furspring made a respectful bow.

The Alpha gave her a nod before gazing up at her with anticipation.

"Yeah?"

“The lady maid and doctor have asked for your presence,” she said.

He nodded before quickly following her to the ward where his mate was waiting.

He observed her sprawled on the bed, her legs apart as she hung carelessly on the mattress. Her appearance made him feel very vulnerable, and his heart broke for her.

He asked in a worried voice, "Is she okay?" His ancestors had taught him that an Alpha was not to exhibit weakness.

He received a shrug from the pack doctor. "Alpha. She has been in this position for several hours, and the pup is still inside. We're debating opening her up.”

His head was violently shaken. "No!"

The lady maid who worked for his friend gave him an odd look. “Alpha, this may be the only way for the pup to survive.”

Alpha Furspring kept a wallflower-like gaze fixed on the small woman who was hiding by the wall. He knew she was committed to the throne as well as having her lady's best interests at heart, which is why she wanted to save the puppy.

“I care about the pup, but I also care about the life of my partner,” the man declared.

The pack doctor nodded. "I will try my best to help. Please stay close while I try again.”

He approached his partner and kissed her on the cheeks. When she saw him, she grinned and her eyes fluttered open. He smiled firmly at her after noticing the suffering in her dark brown eyes.

“You can do this, my love,” he whispered.

While wiping away tears from her cheeks, she shook her head.

He chuckled softly. “Yes, you can. Now push that pup out before I yank him out myself!”

Laughing hysterically and crying, his mate pushed and screamed until the cry of a baby was heard. The lady maid and doctor chuckled as they carried the baby.

“Congratulations, Alpha Furspring. You've been blessed with a bouncing baby girl from the moon goddess!” The pack doctor announced.

Alpha Furspring chuckled as he carried his little princess. “My lovely, Janet.”

The baby cooed and he felt his heart glow as she looked like his mate.

“She’s so beautiful,” his mate giggled, wiping away stray tears.

“Indeed,” he nodded.

Then another lightning crack in the sky followed by heavy thunderclaps. His mate yelled in the pain and the doctor rushed forward.

“It appears there's another pup!” He exclaimed in fear.

His mate howled again and he glanced at them. They were all at loss.

“Do something!” he screamed at them.

The pack doctor hurried towards his mate and he watched as they tried to pull out the second pup.

Why was there a second pup? He wondered.

“I can't push anymore!” His mate screamed.

Alpha Furspring shook his head, he refused to believe that she would give up.

“You have to push!” he screamed.

“We have to cut her open,” the doctor announced.

“No. We could lose her!” he declined.

“We’re losing her still and she's still with the pup inside her,” the doctor stated.

Before his eyes, while he cradled his first baby, Alpha Furspring watched as they cut his mate open and pulled out the second pup.

The pup was a splitting image of the first pup he was carrying!

“Bad omen!” the wrinkly lady exclaimed.

“They’re identical twins!” the lady maid gasped.

There was another round of thunderclaps and then the storm died down just as the light died out in his mate’s eyes. “I can't,” she whispered ans shut her eyes in death.
