A girl who went through betrayal at her young age grows up with a stone cold heart and decides to revenge.
The first rays of sunlight peeked through the tattered curtains of a small, dilapidated house nestled in the heart of a forgotten neighborhood. It was a place where joy had long been overshadowed by the somber whispers of sadness and the scars of pain.
Screams of a labouring woman in agony coming from this house could be heard from the next three streets. It had been going on for hours and the midwives were tired already. Terrified by her mother's cries, seven year old Namo stood behind the old worn out cushion in the tiny room and watched her mother with little droplets of tears streaming down her face as she covered her mouth with her hands. She knew her mother was not going to survive the pain, and she didn't.
................
The previous night was a very long one. Mama had just told her a moonlight tale after they ate the last mould of Akpu she stole from the market few days ago with water when Papa stormed into the house angrily. "Where is Adasa!" He shouted with oozes of alcohol all over him. He always called his wife by her government name which wasn't a surprise anymore. Namo pointed in the direction of the backyard and he headed there. Few seconds later, Namo heard her mother's scream followed by the shattering of pots and pans. She ran hurriedly to the direction of the noise and found her mother on the ground laying on her stomach with blood streaming down her thighs. She quickly helped her up and looked at her father dead in the eye. "Can you see the stupidity of a witch you gave birth to? See how she's staring at me. I'm sure this one is also not my child, just like the bastard in your belly" he said to her mother and stormed away. "Mama are you okay?" Namo asked her groaning mother. Her mother nodded her head in affirmation but both mother and daughter knew what the blood meant. Quickly, Namo went out of the house to call her mother's friends. By the time they got back to the house, Mama had fainted.
