Chapter 1 Morning escape

Fear absolute terror, the kind of terror that causes your skin to itch. when your skin crawls and you can feel every hair on your body standing up. I experienced the kind of paralyzing fear that causes your body to instantly freeze when you hear her blood-curdling scream. The only problem was that I couldn't flee because I was her big sister. I was forced to move and go to her. I dragged my feet up the Pack house's front porch and sprinted in the direction I could hear her calling my name. In fear, I pound the flooring with my feet.

I felt myself slipping on the hallway rug as a result of my rapid movement, causing me to skid across the floor and against the wall. With enough effort, my head and shoulder twist awkwardly against the kitchen door frame, causing black dots to dance in front of my eyes. I feel a sharp pain in my shoulder and collarbone travel through my body as my shoulder dislocates as a result of the hit. The call goes forth, "Katherine! Katherine!" Her frightened scream reverberated throughout the house. I jumped to my feet and felt dizzy. With a whip in his other hand, the Alpha was pulling my sister towards the basement as I rounded the corner into the kitchen. Just before he can slam the cellar door shut on my fingers, I start sprinting toward her and grab the door frame. In pain, I cry out loud on my own. When I go to grab the door handle, I discover that it has been locked. I begin attempting to get my hand free. She was shouting and wailing for me on the other side of the door, and I could hear her. Say, "Leave her alone!"I yelled at him while banging the door with my body in an effort to free my fingers and get inside. Since I couldn't get a run-up, I threw my body with all of my strength in the direction of the side where my fingers were jammed, and the door moved just far enough for me to liberate my bloody, broken hand. My fingers twisted and jutted out at odd angles, and I knew they were broken.

I ran full-speed into the kitchen door as I was backing up, bouncing off, and losing all of my air in the process. I rose up, backed up once more, and accelerated my pace. My body was propelled down the stairs, landing at an odd angle, while I dropped my shoulder, slamming into the door so hard it burst open. My head collided with the concrete floor of the cellar. "Katherine"

KATHERINE'S POV*

Just two weeks ago I murmured to my six-year-old sister, "Come on, Caroline, it's time to get up." She yawned and stretched while rolling on the mattress, opening her stunning sapphire blue eyes to meet mine. The Packhouse's smallest chamber was located in the back of the house, away from everyone. The space was furnished with a window, a double bed, and several toys for Lily. The duffle bag that served as our clothing readily accommodated all of our belongings. She looked down at my attire drowsily and murmured, "You've been jogging, Kathy. "No, they're just relaxed right now. I got down next to her on the floor mattress and said, "Come on, you have to get ready for school. Caroline got up and scowled at me.

Before putting her school shirt over her head, I took off the top of her pajamas. I instructed her, "Quick, hop up and put your pants on while I get ready." I quickly stood up, made my way over to the duffle bag next to the mattress, and took out my work attire. I then quickly undressed and put it on. Sitting next to Caroline on the bed, I grabbed my brush and pulled my hair into a high ponytail before doing the same with hers. I leaned down, snatched her socks and joggers, put them on her feet, and fastened the laces. Inside the house, we could hear people moving around. Caroline halted and fixed her gaze on the door. Kathy, he's awake," Caroline said. She was still in her pajamas, so I hurriedly threw my shoes on and grabbed the duffel bag, stuffing it with mine and hers. Knowing we couldn't sneak out of the house by the front entrance, I threw the bag over my shoulder and moved over to the window. I opened the window slowly, threw the bag out, and then went for Caroline. She scaled the windowsill and leaped to the ground below. With the exception of the basement and attic, the house only had one story.

I passed through, leaped to the grass below, and then reached up to carefully close the window behind me. I looked to make sure that none of the Pack members were in the front yard as I ran up the side of the house toward the side gate. It was still incredibly early. Just as the sun was about to rise, light could be seen peeping through the house's surrounding trees. I took Caroline's hand and jogged towards the driveway, which was also the bus stop at the end of the gravel road. I could hear the bus approaching as we got closer to the conclusion. We moved more quickly toward the bus stop, arriving there just in time. I extended my arm and signaled the bus to stop. When he noticed us, the bus driver grinned. I remarked, "Hey, Finn," as I boarded the vehicle and gave him our bus payment. He looked down at her and remarked, "No smile today, Caroline?" Before she gave him a wide, toothy grin, her lips pulled at the sides.

"That's my girl," he proclaimed. We shifted to the bus's rear. Caroline lay down on the seat next to me for the entire ten-minute journey into town, resting her head in my lap. She looked up at me and said, "Kathy, I'm hungry." I leaned down to kiss her head, "I know, I will make you some lunch and breakfast when we get into town," I said. I watched the trees and early-morning birds as I stared out the window.
