I'm Daryn Coldwater. My normal life is boring and complicated. A few weeks ago, I got kidnapped and was taken to a magical academy. At first, I thought my dreams had come true, but it just turns out that I'm living a nightmare. Now, I'm stuck here, trying to learn magic while figuring out how to cope in the academy.

Mage Academy For The Gifted Chapter 1 Welcome To The Academy

~ Daryn ~

My life as an average teenager has always been a mess. Raised by a single mum, I at times feel very lonely whenever she's at work; I have no friends to visit, I don't do parties and other stuff you might refer to as 'cool'. Often times, I also get bullied at school.

Most times I just wish I could have the adventurous life I've dreamed of since I was a child. Find magic if it really exists, sail across the night sky upon a dragon's back, and save the world together with my team of magical superheroes. But again, all these fantasies can only exist in my head and not in the real world.

It was 8:00pm at night, and my mum had not yet returned from work. As usual, I just finished having a nice cold bath and was about to watch some TV, dressed in my bathrobe; I would then probably fall asleep on the couch like always, until my mum came back from work.

However, things took a different turn when a sudden knock was heard on the door. I wasn't expecting any visitor, not at such time of the night. It also definitely wasn't my mum, since she never returned back from work so early.

Cold shivers of fear raced down my spine as the knocks became more vigorous, until I couldn't ignore them anymore. It couldn't be anyone I knew, so I was curious to know who the person was.

I looked through the door's peephole to see whom it was. My eyes widened in surprise when I found out that it was an ordinary delivery man who had been knocking the whole time.

Huh, did mum place an order for anything?, I wondered.

In slight relief, I heaved a sigh as I squeezed the door knob, allowing a cold gust of wind blow into the house.

My gaze was locked upon the delivery man who held a brown package and seemed to be smiling sheepishly at me.

"Delivery for Mary Coldwater."

"Oh yeah, that's my mum...I wonder what she might've ordered this time. Last time it was a set of magical kit for my birthday".

I smiled back at the delivery man.

"Oh, I see..."

"Tell me kid, do you believe in magic?", asked the man.

" Uh...it may seem crazy for someone as grown up as me to say yes, but yes I do... I believe in magic. "

"Okay, how 'bout a cool trick?"

"It's cool", I replied.

" Just keep your eyes closed, wouldya?"

I shut my eyes in excitement, hoping to see what magic trick the man would perform, once my eyes were open again. I would then ask the man to teach me how to do it.

My eyes remained closed as the man flicked his hands in a strange manner while whispering some words - a magic spell perhaps.

The man's fingers glowed with bright dust particles that surrounded them, until suddenly...I fell unconscious.

*********

The man whispered a bit more loudly this time, "Arris xion".

This caused Daryn to disappear first, before the man also disappeared with him, leaving the house empty and unlocked.

The package laid in front of the door. It gave off a golden glow as it transformed into a golden envelope, and flew into the house.

Thud! The door was mysteriously shut.

" Welcome to The Mage Academy For The Gifted. "

I suddenly became conscious at the sound of a lady's voice. I opened my eyes to realize that I wasn't at home anymore, but in a large room which was brightly lit up by a golden light. It was filled with many people who were confused just like I was.

My eyes scanned everyone's faces, in search of the strange man who kidnapped me, but it was futile.

My mixed feelings of confusion and anxiousness grew wilder as I kept on thinking of how worried my mum might be, if she didn't find me at home.

The hall was full of indistinct chattering from the confused crowd. Most of us were dressed in our night wears, making us feel very embarrassed.

We needed to know why we were kidnapped and where we were. But the lady who greeted us earlier neither said nor did anything.

She just stood upon the well raised podium which was in front of us. Her silence probably indicated that she awaited someone's arrival.

The chattering grew louder and louder because everyone was getting more frustrated; it was ten minutes since we arrived, but nothing had happened.

"If you're gonna kill us, just do it already!!!", someone yelled.

My heart pounded faster, making it difficult for me to control my breath. Beads of sweat rolled down my face, while I stood amongst the crowd - it was my own way of expressing my fear and confusion, but I tried to hold it all in.

I lay paralyzed on stiff white sheets, a prisoner in my own skin, listening to the rain lash against the window like nails on a coffin. My father, Elmore Franco, didn't even look at my face as he checked his clipboard. He just listened to the steady, monotonous beep of the heart monitor-the only thing proving I was still alive. Without a hint of remorse, he pulled a pen from his pocket and signed the Do Not Resuscitate order. My stepmother, Ophelia, stepped out from behind him, wearing my favorite pearl necklace and smelling of cloying perfume. She leaned close to my ear to whisper the truth that turned my blood to ice. "It was the tea, darling. Just like your mother. A slow, tasteless poison." She chuckled as she revealed that my fiancé, Bryce, had a two-year-old son with my sister, Daniela. My inheritance had been funding their secret life for years, and now that the money was secure, I was an inconvenience they were finally scrubbing away. As my father yanked the power cord from the wall, the beeping died, and the darkness swallowed me whole. I was being murdered by my own flesh and blood, used as a bank account until I was no longer needed. I died in that sterile room, drowning in the realization that every person I ever loved was a monster who had been waiting for me to take my last breath. Then, I gasped. I woke up in a luxury hotel suite surrounded by silk sheets, five years in the past-the very morning of my wedding. Next to me lay Basile Delgado, the "Wolf of Wall Street" and my family's most dangerous enemy. In my first life, I ran from this room in a panic and lost everything. This time, I looked at the man who would eventually destroy my father's empire and decided to join him. "I'm not leaving, Basile. Marry me. Right now. Today."

I arrived at the hotel with Julian's favorite takeout, ready to surprise my fiancé before our big merger. But the moment I swiped the keycard, the silence of the hallway felt heavy and wrong. Inside, a red-soled stiletto lay on the marble floor-the same one I'd watched my best friend Lila try on at Saks last week. Through the cracked bedroom door, I watched Julian's back arch as Lila looked me straight in the eye and smiled, wrapping her legs tighter around him to mock my heartbreak. I fled to the penthouse to hide, only to find Grafton, Julian's "crippled" brother, waiting in the dark. To my horror, the man who was supposed to be paralyzed stood up from his wheelchair, gripped my chin with cold fingers, and forced me to sign a contract that gave him control of my family's shares. He knew about my mother's secret medical bills and used them to buy my silence, effectively turning my life into a calculated game of corporate chess. The betrayal tasted like acid, and the injustice of it all burned in my throat. My fiancé was a liar, my best friend was a thief, and the man now controlling my fate was a predator who had been faking his disability for years. I couldn't understand how everyone I trusted had turned out to be a monster. I was trapped between a man who cheated on me and a man who wanted to own me, with no way out and no one to turn to. But when Julian came looking for me, Grafton didn't hide; he stood tall, looming over me with a possessive glint in his eyes. "Help me destroy Julian," I rasped, realizing that to survive the Faulkner men, I had to become the most dangerous player of them all.

I was once the heiress to the Solomon empire, but after it crumbled, I became the "charity case" ward of the wealthy Hyde family. For years, I lived in their shadows, clinging to the promise that Anson Hyde would always be my protector. That promise shattered when Anson walked into the ballroom with Claudine Chapman on his arm. Claudine was the girl who had spent years making my life a living hell, and now Anson was announcing their engagement to the world. The humiliation was instant. Guests sneered at my cheap dress, and a waiter intentionally sloshed champagne over me, knowing I was a nobody. Anson didn't even look my way; he was too busy whispering possessively to his new fiancée. I was a ghost in my own home, watching my protector celebrate with my tormentor. The betrayal burned. I realized I wasn't a ward; I was a pawn Anson had kept on a shelf until he found a better trade. I had no money, no allies, and a legal trust fund that Anson controlled with a flick of his wrist. Fleeing to the library, I stumbled into Dallas Koch—a titan of industry and my best friend’s father. He was a wall of cold, absolute power that even the Hydes feared. "Marry me," I blurted out, desperate to find a shield Anson couldn't climb. Dallas didn't laugh. He pulled out a marriage agreement and a heavy fountain pen. "Sign," he commanded, his voice a low rumble. "But if you walk out that door with me, you never go back." I signed my name, trading my life for the only man dangerous enough to keep me safe.
