Material Girl Chapter 1 Prologue

"Hey, newbie. Come here quickly." That voice just made Calista move quickly toward her.

"You clean up the table there, the main thing is that the table has to be clean because there are VIP customers who will come." Appoint a woman three years older than her.

Calista, who is a restaurant waitress and has only worked for two days at that place, must obey. The one who just ordered her is not the owner of the restaurant, but her senior who is also a waitress there.

Calista quickly cleaned the table, suddenly a man at the next table accidentally touched her buttocks, causing Calista to spontaneously turn around and reprimand him.

"Sorry sir, that's not polite." She threw it so that the people at the table turned to look at her in unison.

" What are you saying? I didn't do anything to you, don't accuse me recklessly." Answer the man with an innocent face.

"Just now you touched my ass, that's an act of impolite." Calista tried to stay calm even though she didn't want to admit it.

"See, this servant is accusing me recklessly." The man provoked his friends to blame Calista, and all eyes were now on her.

"Hey miss, watch what you say. We are all regular customers at this restaurant, and we are married men. Women like you are not even to our taste. " One of them attempted to defend.

The commotion made by Calista made the place crowded, even the restaurant manager came out to finish it. Because the man did not want to confess until the end, Calista was asked to apologize to him.

"But I wasn't wrong." Calista said trying to convince the manager.

"Calista, I'm sorry." Cut the manager firmly.

Calista clenched her fists tightly, then she looked at the man's face while bowing her head.

"Sorry sir, I admit I was wrong." Calista said full of compulsion.

After apologizing and all the problems have been resolved, Calista returns to complete her task. And just as she was about to turn back, the man deliberately touched her butt again.

"You son of a bitch." Calista hit the man on the head with an old rag and made everyone look at her in surprise.

"Calisa, what are you doing?" Said the restaurant manager who returned to see the woman's behavior.

"I've been trying to be patient, first you accused me of lying even though you did it. And now you're doing it again you think I'm going to stay quiet, huh?" Calista was so furious that she pulled the man's collar so hard.

"Take your hands off him." Said one of his friends.

Calista turned and looked at them one by one with a scary look, all of them didn't dare to move anymore and neither did the man who was still in Calista's arms.

"Now apologize, or I will smash your face." Calista threats made him look like a demon now.

"S-sorry, I admit I was wrong." The man said in a trembling voice.

"Calista, you've disturbed the atmosphere in this restaurant." The manager looked at her seriously.

"I quit, without you telling me I will quit this stupid job." Calista took off her apron and immediately headed to the locker room to get her things.

**

"AAKHHHHHHHHH, damn it." Calista shouted as she was on the street until everyone around her was shocked and stared at her in shock.

"Bastard man, jerk manager, the world is full of jerks." Calista was furious on the way back to her house tonight.

Calista has been fired three times because she can't control her emotions, she works anything to get money. Calista is a 25 year old woman, not attending college and only attending high school.

Calista is the only child from a broken home, her mother went somewhere shortly after she was born. Then she has a father who is unemployed, moreover her father likes to borrow money to gamble so she has to be in debt by loan sharks.

For almost five months, Calista tried to work to earn money so she could cover her father's debts, but until she didn't get her first salary, she had already been fired.

Calista arrived home, she found her father who was heavily drunk. The smell of alcohol and food waste was scattered everywhere, while taking a deep breath he moved to clean up all the dirt.

"Dad get up, move to the room." Callista's orders.

"Hmmm, dad doesn't have any money." Said in sleep.

"If you don't have money, don't borrow money from people all the time, my own father will be the one who will be dizzy later." Calista replied even though she knew her father was unconscious.

And after everything was done, it was time for Calista to rest. She has a room with a size large enough for herself to relax, tonight she will sleep and tomorrow find a suitable job for her.

**

Several months later...

The woman ran with all her might, she was running from the people who were going to charge her money. She had paid off her father's debt with considerable interest, but apparently her father had borrowed money again and had run away somewhere.

Calista had become their only target, and now she didn't know where else to hide. She has worked very hard to pay off those debts, and now she is still the target of all of them.

"Catch you." They said after they managed to catch Calista.

"Let me go, let go." Calista tries to rebel, but it's a shame their strength is far greater.

Calista was knocked unconscious right then and there, she didn't know where the bastards were going to take her. Faintly she could hear that she would be taken to meet their boss, until in the end she was completely unconscious.

**

Slowly but surely Calista was able to open her eyes, she was surprised to find herself in an unfamiliar room. She realized that someone had injected something into him, too late to dodge because the liquid had already entered her body.

There was a strange man in front of her at the moment, he was looking at Calista with a bleary look. The man was only wearing a hotel bathrobe and was sitting there, the woman who had just injected something into her arm slowly left the room.

" What happened? who are you.?" Asked Calista who was trying to stay away when the man approached her.

"Your father owes us a lot of money, money alone will not be enough to pay it off. I'll give you one chance to pay off the debt, the way you only need to serve me tonight." Said the man while touching Calista's chin.

"Let go, I would never want to be with a pervert like you." She replied while holding the man's hand firmly.

"You will never get away from me." He continued to approach Calista again.

"Let me go. " Calista tried to push him away, but she suddenly became weak and helpless.

"The injection? must be because of that."

"Don't run, I will make you feel the pleasure that you have never felt." The man's whisper made Calista shudder to hear it.

I stood at my mother's open grave in the freezing rain, my heels sinking into the mud. The space beside me was empty. My husband, Hilliard Holloway, had promised to cherish me in bad times, but apparently, burying my mother didn't fit into his busy schedule. While the priest's voice droned on, a news alert lit up my phone. It was a livestream of the Metropolitan Charity Gala. There was Hilliard, looking impeccable in a custom tuxedo, with his ex-girlfriend Charla English draped over his arm. The headline read: "Holloway & English: A Power Couple Reunited?" When he finally returned to our penthouse at 2 AM, he didn't come alone-he brought Charla with him. He claimed she'd had a "medical emergency" at the gala and couldn't be left alone. I found a Tiffany diamond necklace on our coffee table meant for her birthday, and a smudge of her signature red lipstick on his collar. When I confronted him, he simply told me to stop being "hysterical" and "acting like a child." He had no idea I was seven months pregnant with his child. He thought so little of my grief that he didn't even bother to craft a convincing lie, laughing with his mistress in our home while I sat in the dark with a shattered heart and a secret life growing inside me. "He doesn't deserve us," I whispered to the darkness. I didn't scream or beg. I simply left a folder on his desk containing signed divorce papers and a forged medical report for a terminated pregnancy. I disappeared into the night, letting him believe he had successfully killed his own legacy through his neglect. Five years later, Hilliard walked into "The Vault," the city's most exclusive underground auction, looking for a broker to manage his estate. He didn't recognize me behind my Venetian mask, but he couldn't ignore the neon pink graffiti on his armored Maybach that read "DEADBEAT." He had no clue that the three brilliant triplets currently hacking his security system were the very children he thought had been erased years ago. This time, I wasn't just a wife in the way; I was the one holding all the cards.

My bank account showed exactly $42.18, and my student loan notifications were flashing red. I lived in a sweltering Queens apartment with my Aunt Lydia, where the air was thick with the smell of stale frying oil and the constant threat of being homeless. Lydia handed me a grainy photo of a man twice my age and told me she had already "sold" me to him. He was a dry cleaner looking for a wife, and in exchange for my hand, he would pay off her credit cards and my debt. If I didn't show up for the date that night, my boxes would be on the curb by midnight. I arrived at the cafe in a state of panic, my selective mutism making it impossible to even breathe. In the crowded room, I accidentally sat at the wrong table. Instead of the man from the photo, I found myself facing Gerhard Holcomb—the cold, terrifyingly handsome billionaire whose family owned the very museum where I worked. He didn't send me away; instead, he studied my trembling hands and offered me a different deal: a two-year contract marriage, a two-million-dollar payout, and a strict clause forbidding any children. I signed the papers and moved into his Park Avenue penthouse, thinking I was finally safe. But when I went back to the old apartment to retrieve the only memento of my dead parents, Lydia lashed out, leaving me bleeding from a head wound. Gerhard’s retaliation was absolute—he had her arrested and her building foreclosed on within hours, claiming he was simply "protecting his assets." As I recovered in his silent, glass-walled home, I saw a call from a famous socialite flash on his phone, and a cold truth settled in my gut. I wasn't just a wife; I was a placeholder, a silent shield used to fend off the women from his past. I looked at the massive pink diamond on my finger and realized the silence I had lived in my whole life was about to become my most expensive prison. I had traded a life of poverty for a high-stakes game of shadows, and now I had to survive the man who claimed to own me.

Flash Marriage To My Best Friend's Father

I was once the heiress to the Solomon empire, but after it crumbled, I became the "charity case" ward of the wealthy Hyde family. For years, I lived in their shadows, clinging to the promise that Anson Hyde would always be my protector. That promise shattered when Anson walked into the ballroom with Claudine Chapman on his arm. Claudine was the girl who had spent years making my life a living hell, and now Anson was announcing their engagement to the world. The humiliation was instant. Guests sneered at my cheap dress, and a waiter intentionally sloshed champagne over me, knowing I was a nobody. Anson didn't even look my way; he was too busy whispering possessively to his new fiancée. I was a ghost in my own home, watching my protector celebrate with my tormentor. The betrayal burned. I realized I wasn't a ward; I was a pawn Anson had kept on a shelf until he found a better trade. I had no money, no allies, and a legal trust fund that Anson controlled with a flick of his wrist. Fleeing to the library, I stumbled into Dallas Koch-a titan of industry and my best friend's father. He was a wall of cold, absolute power that even the Hydes feared. "Marry me," I blurted out, desperate to find a shield Anson couldn't climb. Dallas didn't laugh. He pulled out a marriage agreement and a heavy fountain pen. "Sign," he commanded, his voice a low rumble. "But if you walk out that door with me, you never go back." I signed my name, trading my life for the only man dangerous enough to keep me safe.

I went to the City Clerk’s office for a routine copy of my marriage license to finalize a trust fund audit. I expected a simple piece of paper, but the clerk’s pitying look told me my entire life was a lie. "The license was never finalized, Ms. Oliver. In the eyes of the state, you are single." The three-hundred-guest wedding at the Plaza and the Vogue features meant nothing. My husband, Gray Cooley, had intentionally filed the documents with a "procedural defect" so he could discard me without a legal divorce. Moments later, an iCloud invite titled "Our Little Secret" popped up on my screen. It was a photo of my best friend, Brylee, holding a positive pregnancy test at our Hamptons estate. Gray’s text to her was the final blow: "Happy anniversary, babe. This baby is the best gift. Once the trust unlocks today, we’re done with the charade." I soon discovered they were even stealing my career, reassigning my architectural masterpiece to Brylee while preparing my eviction notice. Gray's mother called me a "barren mule" in a leaked recording, mocking the infertility I suffered after saving Gray’s life in a construction accident. I wasn't a wife; I was a three-year placeholder used to secure his inheritance. How could the man I bled for treat me like a disposable prop? How could my best friend carry his child while pretending to comfort me through my darkest moments? The betrayal burned until it turned into a cold, hard stone of fury. I didn't cry. Instead, I walked into the penthouse of the Barretts, the Cooleys' most powerful rivals. I signed a marriage contract with Kane Barrett, the man the tabloids called the "Beast of Wall Street." "I want a wedding," I told his father, my voice steady and lethal. "Bigger than the one I had with Gray." If they wanted me gone, they would have to watch me become the woman who owns their world.
