The beginning

[Serena's point of view]

"Breaking news: a man's head was spotted again near the head quarters of the police, they suspect that the number 1 serial killer Exodus is the perpetrator of the crime again" I didn't pay attention to what was being said in the news because I was busy working Food here in the kitchen.

"It's really scary to come out now, why hasn't that Exodus been caught yet, he's already killed so many innocent people."

"Yes, of course it's still alive, but its soul is being burned in hell." whispered our housemates at home.

I can't blame them why they talk like that to that Criminal because it is true that he has killed so many people.

I don't know why there are people who can kill their fellow human beings. They will not be blessed if they do that and they have no right to take the lives of others because they are not God.

"Perfect." I whispered as I looked at the cute cupcakes I made. I am currently in college and in a culinary course.

I like to cook and bake, I plan to build my own restaurant when I graduate.

"Señorita Serena, your parents are already in the dinning area and Senyorito Haru's family is with them." I smiled sparingly at Nanny one and signaled that I would follow.

I immediately removed the apron I was wearing and fixed my hair before leaving our kitchen. "Mom." I quickly approached Mommy and Daddy before kissing them together as well as my two snake brothers.

I sat next to Haru who was smiling at me. "What's wrong, why are you here?" He shrugged and whispered back "I don't know, they just said they had something important to say to us" I nodded at what he said.

He's Haru Arcadio and he's my childhood best friend. Like me, his family also comes from politics because his father is currently a senator here in our area.

"Serena, it's your birthday in a week. That means you're at the right age to get married, that's why we thought we'd tell everyone that you're engaged, Haru, on your birthday." My lips couldn't help but be merciful because of what Mommy said.

I looked at Haru but his head was bowed but under the table you could see his clenched fist which secretly hurt my heart.

To be honest I love him and I'm happy that we are getting married. But I can't ruin his happiness, I know I don't have a chance in his heart because he already has a girlfriend.

He already has Bettina in his life.

I smiled like Mommy and tried to cover my feelings "But Mom, is that really necessary? I mean our family is ok. Maybe we don't need a wedding right?" when I object even if it's against my heart.

"We know that, but it's better if our family comes together, each one's power will be stronger and the chance of us becoming a victim of a serial killer in this country will be smaller." Tito Hiro's long line is Haru's Daddy.

Most of the politicians who are very rich and powerful still have no escape from that man. Not everyone knows how he manages to kill powerful people who sit in government.

And it is not far that even my Daddy who is the governor will not be targeted by him. Honestly, I'm afraid for him but I know that Dad is a good person so there is no reason for that Exodus to target him.

Haru and I were quiet while we were here in the garden of our house. He bowed while I just stared at him sadly.

"Why don't you try to object? I know you love Bettina that's why you fight for her." I told him.

He looked sadly into my eyes "Serena you know I can't do that right? In the first place I made a mistake because I choose to love her. Our family is against us."

It's sad. It's like they're Romeo and Juliet. Arcadio and Chavilire are cruel enemies and Haru and I don't know the reason.

"So what are you going to do? Will you just agree to marry me? Won't you even fight for the woman you love?" It hurts to say that because I love him but I can't bear to see him regret the time he chooses to marry me.

I love him but I will still choose what is best for him. If he'll be happier with Bettina then it's fine with me. I'll just always be here for him if he needs me.

"Should I fight for her or maybe I should accept now that we can't be together? I love my family Serena and I can't turn my back on them. But I will ask you, do you want to marry me?" He gave me a withering look and I didn't seem to know what to say.

Am I going to admit it? Should I say that I've loved him for a long time and I'm ready to marry him even if he doesn't love me?

I was about to open my mouth to tell him my answer when we looked at brother Isaiah who was the one who teased to come to us.

"Ops, It's already late. Your family has left so I think you need to leave." he gave Haru a mocking look causing him to look back at me and give me a small smile.

"I'll go now Serena, goodnight." I just smiled at him before nodding. After Haru left, I looked at Kuya annoyed.

"Why did you talk to him like that?" he laughed and raised his hand.

"What, I didn't say anything wrong? I just sent him home." I immediately hit him on the arm "No you're provoking him! Why do you and brother Isaac seem to hate him when he's not doing anything wrong?"

I was stunned when my brother looked at me seriously, he held my head before kissing my forehead.

"Princess we're just protecting you, you're the only girl in our family. And Haru I don't trust him because that stupid friend of yours is a freaking playboy. I'm worried that you might be his next target ."

Ever since I introduced Haru to them when I was a child, I've really noticed that my two older brothers don't like him even though Mom and Dad voted for him.

They always say that Haru is a womanizer but I have never seen him like that because apart from me he is always with Bettina.

"He's not like that brother, he truly loves Bettina and I know he will never cheat on her."

He didn't answer and just sighed. "If you say so." he just mumbled before taking me to my room.

After arriving there, I immediately went to bed while thinking about Haru and our upcoming wedding.

"Gosh Serena! I'm really excited for your birthday. I'm sure it's going to be grand! Look at the invitation, it's so beautiful." I smiled sparingly at Alexa.

One of my friends "Actually I just want a simple celebration but dad refuses it, he says he wants the best for me." I was smiling and seemed happy.

All my life I didn't know who was the real me. My circle of friends? I know they just befriended me because of my father.

I was just walking with my circle of friends when Bettina suddenly stopped in front of me.

She was mesmerized while her eyes were staring at me furiously "You know what? I should have just followed my instinct that you are flirty." I couldn't help but feel sorry for what she said.

"Hey Bettina, are you trying to start a fight?" Alexa asked her husband flatly, which she struggled with.

"Yes I'm starting a fight because this b*tch is stealing my boyfriend." I couldn't help but be surprised when she slapped me hard in the face.

I grabbed my cheek and slapped her and looked at her again. Even though I was angry, I noticed the pain and sadness in her eyes.

"I-I don't know what you're talking about." my mom Is it possible that Haru told her about our engagement that's why she treated me like this now?

"Oh c'mon, don't act like you're innocent you little b*tch! I thought you only thought of him as a friend, that's why you're taking him away from me." she quickly pulled my hair causing me to cry.

I saw Alexa take their cellphones before taking a video of Bettina's teasing me.

How dare them!? Instead of helping me and weaning Bettina, they chose to stand aside and take a video of us!?

I tightly held Bettina's hand that was in my hair while trying to remove it because what she was doing was so painful. I feel like I'm going bald.

I didn't retaliate because I didn't want to increase my guilt towards her. I know she's only doing this because she thinks I'm taking Haru away from her and ruining their relationship.

I truly love Haru but that will not reach the point where I will destroy them for my feelings.

"Bettina stop!" I heard Haru shout. He quickly separated Bettina and me.

He hugged me while his friends held Bettina who was struggling.

"Are you ok?" Haru asked worriedly. I tearfully nodded while fixing my hair.

"Don't touch me you disgusting idiot!" Bettina shouted angrily at Haru's friend. My friend looked at her annoyed.

"Bettina can you please stop!? I already told you that don't hurt Serena but you didn't listen!" many students are looking at us, so I am ashamed of what is happening now, especially since I know it will spread because of those who videoed what is happening.

"I'm just giving her a lesson. Why are you taking her side? Don't tell me you like her?" she pointed at me that's why I couldn't help but bow down but Haru grabbed my chin before making me look at him.

"Yes I like her and from now on I'm officially breaking up with you. I can't stand your behavior anymore." I seemed to stiffen because of what I heard, especially since Haru's eyes were staring at my face.

W-what? Will he like me?

"W-what are you saying?" I stuttered as he smiled "I said I like you Serena." My heart beat faster as he hugged me tighter.

We only looked away from each other when we heard the students gasp after hearing what Haru said to me.

We both looked at Bettina and she couldn't believe we were both staring.

After that her face lost all emotion "I can't believe that you choose that b*tch over me." she quickly removed the hands of Haru's friends from her before slowly approaching us and she grinned.

"I'll make sure that both of you will regret this. You messed a Chavilire big time." Haru and I couldn't help but be stunned after she said that.

She immediately left as if she were the queen.

Chavilire, the most feared family that even my family could not collide with.

I fell down on my bed. My body aches from practice. It's only four o'clock in the afternoon, it's shocking. Is this how Mommy suffered at HTS? If I only knew, I wouldn’t have bothered to join yet. I struggled to get up and picked up the phone on top of my side table. "Mother Martha," I began tiredly and she answered me with full concern. "Please. Can you just bring me some food up here. Even if you just order another maid. The pain is over. My body really, I can't really go down. All right, thank you. " I immediately removed my bra and stretched. Even maybe opening a social media account is boring to do. I've only been in training for two weeks but I'm tired, I don't want to. I closed my eyes, waking up, tired and tired. I was startled by a noise coming from a cell phone, as if a gunshot had been fired. I seem to have fallen asleep tired. I turned to the person next to me and focused my eyes on his cellphone. My vision was blurred but it didn’t take long and I saw who was next to me. "Calyx!" I slapped him with a lampshade. "Hey! Don't! ” he blocked her face with his arm and immediately left my bed. "Why are you here? And ... And it's still here in my bed! " "I don't know about you. I just delivered your food and then you took advantage of my weakness," she replied and threw my bra on my bed, apparently hanging from her hair. Immediately warmed my face to what he did. I know there was no malice in what he did but I couldn't help but be ashamed. In the crowd, why Calyx yet? "The thickness of your face! Get out of here!" I repel while averting my eyes. "Why are you the one who delivered?" "I volunteered," he answered simply so I turned to him. “I would like to talk to you. I would have woken you up just because you are sound asleep so I would have planned, just wait for you to wake up. ” "So who gave you the right to sit on my bed?" I raise my eyebrow. ” “I am not comfortable on the floor. ” "The thickness of your face, get out!" I rock him a pillow. He also left my room immediately. I just wiped my face. We are now facing each other in the living room as he rubs the lump on his forehead that was hit by the lampshade I hit. "I didn't invite you," he complained. "Don't play the victim. Anyone who sees our position before will think it's ugly." "Ja, you're the one who hugged the two of us. Why are you still angry? Shouldn't I? I feel like I took the wrong course, I should be a politician so I can pass a law that also aims to protect men from your women . " I was amazed at his reasoning. I don’t know if he has a saltik or what. I closed my eyes tightly and whispered to him. "Hey. Calyx Napoleon Tan De Jesus, let's be clear. If you don't want to marry me, make sure no one knows what happened." "You're beautiful. It's not bad to marry you," he smiled mischievously and raised his eyebrows so I threw the magazine at him. I was even more annoyed when he laughed out loud. "Get out of here!" I hit the magazine. "Ja, let's talk," he laughed at my blows. "Let's talk about the two of us— ouch!" he rubbed his forehead and quickly sat down next to me. "What's ours? There is no U.S!" I stomped on him. I sighed as he pulled my two legs closer to him, causing me to lie down on the sofa. He put one arm around my head and brought his face close to mine. I couldn't breathe or even move when our noses came together. I stared into his eyes moving my eyes and my lips. I sighed again when his finger stuck to my forehead as he parted my hair. I closed my eyes tightly and slapped him so he moved away from me. I immediately stood up and walked away from him. I felt my blood boil when I saw him smiling while holding his blushing cheek. "Strength," he said, shaking his head and smiling at me. “But Ja, didn't you crush me then. I was just wondering, why? "Calyx growled. "Can I have Calyx. It's a memory I want to forget," I replied angrily and he laughed. I was about to stone him with the magazine when I heard the doorbell ring. Our assistant hurried to the gate to open the door for the visitor. I focused my eyes on the door of the house. "Are you expecting someone?" he asked in front and lay down on the couch. "It's none of your business. Can you just leave first because it's embarrassing for the visitor. ” "Wow! Heavy! ” he applauded. I turned angrily to the man who was just staring at me. He immediately ‘kissed me. "Fuckboy," I whispered. “Hey, that hurts. You are a judge. ” "Truth hurts, Calyx," I smiled sarcastically. "Ms. Jayesa," the maid approached me. "She's supposed to be your visitor. Keshaun Medrano. Shall I let her in?" “Keshaun? That’s a boy’s name, and you’re still a guest? Are you misleading? ” Calyx stood up and got serious. “What are you doing? You also said, I'm beautiful, ”I replied. I looked back at the maid and ordered him to let Keshaun in. "Jayesa, I know you're 18 but you're still a baby in our brother's eyes." "Why are you interfering?" "I'm just concerned." "Concern? Stop me," I

"Whooo! Let's drink! Ali shouted. Yes, we're in the bar, been here with friends since earlier. Ali's broken; her boyfriend cheated on her. Thought he was handsome, but well, 'Whoo, let's drink!' she exclaimed, taking a swig of her beer. "Listen, Cally, never fall for handsome guys; they're all cheaters," a friend advised, and I just chuckled. "Okay, enough of that," I said. "No! Let's drink more! It hurts so much!" Ali insisted, drawing attention from others in the bar. "Stop them," I instructed Sam. "Hey, easy! I told you, I'm here for you," Tom chimed in. "Eww, Tom, we're just friends," I retorted. "Shut up," he replied. "You're just drunk, gaining confidence," Tom teased. "Well, we graduated; maybe I have a chance now, right, Ali?" Ali scoffed, ignoring him. "Handle them; I need the restroom," I said, feeling a bit dizzy. Hi, I'm Cally, short for Cllane Avarri Joy. Apologies for the length – blame my mom's preference for sophistication. We all graduated with a Business Administration degree; I didn't like the courses for the "smart" ones. I'll just find my engineer, right? We're a group of not-so-responsible friends, as you can see. We enjoy each other's company before facing life individually. My parents scold me due to my friends, fearing they might influence me. They don't know I'm the leader. Annoyingly, I'm constantly compared to my cousin Amanda, the golden child. I washed my face; alcohol works fast. Exiting the bathroom, I couldn't stand seeing couples kissing. "Why can't I find someone good-looking?" I complained. "Hey, Cally!" my friends called. "Later!" I replied, feeling a bit woozy. "Focus, Cally, I need to find someone tonight," Tim said. "Looking for someone?" I asked. "Yeah, and I was hoping to see you," he replied. "So, what do you want?" I quickly retorted. He grinned. "I'll give you the room number; follow me later." "Here we go again. Where's the number?" He handed me 143. "Okay," I said, taking a sip of his beer. "It feels like you're in the mood, huh?" he teased. "You wish," I playfully responded. He left, and I continued drinking. A few hours passed; I was a bit drunk. "Nice!" I muttered, heading towards the rooms. I found the door with the number 143, knocked, and waited. It took a while to open; I was getting sleepy. "Oh, still drinking, Cally?" I muttered to myself, entering the room. "What are you doing!?" someone exclaimed. "Let's sleep," I said, placing my hand on their shoulder. They looked at me, and my vision blurred. I burst into laughter for no apparent reason. "You're really drunk, Cally! Seeing all kinds of handsome people," they remarked.

I thought I was waking up in the arms of Arthur, the man I loved. But as the morning light hit the Hamptons estate, the man buttoning his cuffs by the window turned around with eyes like chips of ice. It was Augustus Riddle, Arthur’s cruel younger brother, and I had just spent the night whispering confessions of love into the wrong man's ear. The night I thought was a beautiful beginning turned into a devastating nightmare. Instead of comfort, Gus treated me like a stain on his expensive carpet, scribbling a check for "services rendered" before shoving me into a dark service corridor to hide my existence from his brother. "How much does it cost to buy your silence?" He sneered, before leaving me barefoot in a torrential downpour while he drove away in a luxury Cadillac. Four years later, I am a struggling actress in Los Angeles, working double shifts as a barista just to keep the lights on. My life was finally stable until my roommate dragged me to a high-end dinner to meet her new "influential" boyfriend. The man sitting at the table, looking more arrogant and lethal than ever, was Augustus. He spent the entire night humiliating me, calling me a pathetic amateur and a social climber in front of my only friends. When I fled into the rain and collapsed on the sidewalk, skinning my knee until I bled, he watched from his car. He saw me clutching a plastic baggie containing the taped-together pieces of that four-year-old check—the only proof of my shame. He looked at me like roadkill, rolled up his window, and drove off into the dark. I couldn't understand why he was doing this. Why did he hate me enough to crush me, yet remember that I couldn't handle the smell of cigarette smoke? Why did he leave me bleeding in the street, only to send expensive medical supplies and coffee to my door the very next morning? "I'm moving out." I told my roommates, realizing that Gus Riddle didn't just want to destroy me; he wanted to haunt me. I grabbed my suitcase and walked out with eighty dollars to my name, finally ready to disappear into the city before he could burn the rest of my life to the ground.

The heavy iron gates of the Wilderness Correction Camp groaned as they released me after three years of state-sponsored hell. I stood on the dirt road, clutching a plastic bag that held my entire life, waiting for the family that claimed they sent me there for "rehab." My brother, Brady, picked me up in a luxury SUV only to throw me out onto a deserted highway in the middle of a brewing storm. He told me I was a "public relations nightmare" and that the rain might finally wash the "stink" of the camp off me. He drove away, leaving me to limp miles through the mud on a snapped ankle. When I finally dragged myself to our family estate, my mother didn't offer a hug; she gasped in horror because my muddy clothes were ruining her Italian marble. They didn't give me my old room back. Instead, they banished me to a moldy gardener’s shack and hired a "babysitter" to make sure I didn't embarrass them further. My sister, Kaleigh, stood there in white cashmere, pretending to cry while clinging to her fiancé, Ambrose—the man who had once been mine. They all treated me like a volatile junkie, refusing to acknowledge that Kaleigh was the one who planted the drugs in my bag three years ago. They wanted to believe I was broken so they wouldn't have to feel guilty about the "wellness retreat" that was actually a torture chamber. I sat in the dark of that shed, feeling the cooling gel on the cigarette burns that covered my arms, and realized they had made a fatal mistake. They thought they had erased me, but I had returned with a roadmap of scars and a hidden satellite phone. At dinner, I didn't beg for their love. I simply rolled up my sleeves and showed them the price of their silence. As the wine spilled and the lies crumbled, I sent a single text to the only person I trusted: "I'm in. Let them simmer." The hunt was finally on.

I managed his mergers, warmed his bed, and waited for a future that didn't exist. The illusion shattered at 6:00 AM when a Page Six alert debuted Kieran’s "real" romance with socialite Aspen Schneider. Before I could even process the betrayal, Kieran sent me a cold, professional text: "Order flowers for Aspen. Pink peonies. Her favorite." When I tried to walk away, my own mother called me a disgrace and threatened to lock my inheritance forever unless I married a sixty-year-old businessman to save her failing estate. At a high-society gala that same night, Aspen intentionally crushed my burned hand in front of the cameras, while Kieran stood by and dismissed me as a "mediocre assistant" who had overstayed her welcome. I stood in the cold New York rain, drenched in champagne and humiliation, realizing that every sacrifice I made for Kieran was a joke. I was a ghost in a penthouse that was never mine, discarded the moment his "soulmate" returned. To the world, I was just a placeholder whose time had run out. But Kieran forgot one thing: my father’s multi-million dollar trust fund unlocks the moment I legally marry. I didn't need love; I needed a signature and a shield. I was once the heiress to the Solomon empire, but after it crumbled, I became the "charity case" ward of the wealthy Hyde family. For years, I lived in their shadows, clinging to the promise that Anson Hyde would always be my protector. That promise shattered when Anson walked into the ballroom with Claudine Chapman on his arm. Claudine was the girl who had spent years making my life a living hell, and now Anson was announcing their engagement to the world. The humiliation was instant. Guests sneered at my cheap dress, and a waiter intentionally sloshed champagne over me, knowing I was a nobody. Anson didn't even look my way; he was too busy whispering possessively to his new fiancée. I was a ghost in my own home, watching my protector celebrate with my tormentor. The betrayal burned. I realized I wasn't a ward; I was a pawn Anson had kept on a shelf until he found a better trade. I had no money, no allies, and a legal trust fund that Anson controlled with a flick of his wrist. Fleeing to the library, I stumbled into Dallas Koch—a titan of industry and my best friend’s father. He was a wall of cold, absolute power that even the Hydes feared. "Marry me," I blurted out, desperate to find a shield Anson couldn't climb. Dallas didn't laugh. He pulled out a marriage agreement and a heavy fountain pen. "Sign," he commanded, his voice a low rumble. "But if you walk out that door with me, you never go back." I signed my name, trading my life for the only man dangerous enough to keep me safe.

I sat on the edge of the examination table, the crinkle of the sanitary paper sounding like thunder in the sterile room. The doctor didn't even look at me as he confirmed the news: the pregnancy was over. My husband, Keyon, didn't answer my call. He just sent an automated text: "In a meeting." When I returned to our cold mansion, I found his iPad glowing with a message from his "muse," Katina. He was throwing her a secret gala tonight-on our third wedding anniversary. He told her he couldn't wait to escape the "boring" and "draining" atmosphere I created at home. Keyon didn't stumble in until 3 AM, smelling of Katina's perfume with a smear of red on his collar. When I handed him the divorce papers, he laughed in my face. He called me a "glorified housekeeper" with no skills and no future, promising I'd be back in three days begging for a subway ticket. He even bet his friends ten thousand dollars that I wouldn't survive a week without his name. He had his assistant cancel my credit cards and block my gate access before I even reached the end of the driveway. He wanted me to starve. He wanted me to crawl. He sat in his office, mocking the "desperate" woman who pawned her three-million-dollar wedding ring for scrap metal just to pay for a meal. I stood on the rainy curb, watching the man I had protected for three years treat my life like trash. He didn't know about the ultrasound I just threw in the bin. He didn't know that while he was calling me "dull," I was the one secretly writing the code that kept his billion-dollar empire from collapsing. As I slid into a cheap Uber, I opened a hidden, encrypted app on my phone. The screen refreshed to a dashboard for an account Keyon didn't know existed. The balance was ten figures long-the accumulated wealth of "Solaris," the world's most elusive tech genius. Keyon thinks he just evicted a parasite, but he's about to find out he just declared war on the only person who can hit "delete" on his entire life.

I went to the City Clerk’s office for a routine copy of my marriage license to finalize a trust fund audit. I expected a simple piece of paper, but the clerk’s pitying look told me my entire life was a lie. "The license was never finalized, Ms. Oliver. In the eyes of the state, you are single." The three-hundred-guest wedding at the Plaza and the Vogue features meant nothing. My husband, Gray Cooley, had intentionally filed the documents with a "procedural defect" so he could discard me without a legal divorce. Moments later, an iCloud invite titled "Our Little Secret" popped up on my screen. It was a photo of my best friend, Brylee, holding a positive pregnancy test at our Hamptons estate. Gray’s text to her was the final blow: "Happy anniversary, babe. This baby is the best gift. Once the trust unlocks today, we’re done with the charade." I soon discovered they were even stealing my career, reassigning my architectural masterpiece to Brylee while preparing my eviction notice. Gray's mother called me a "barren mule" in a leaked recording, mocking the infertility I suffered after saving Gray’s life in a construction accident. I wasn't a wife; I was a three-year placeholder used to secure his inheritance. How could the man I bled for treat me like a disposable prop? How could my best friend carry his child while pretending to comfort me through my darkest moments? The betrayal burned until it turned into a cold, hard stone of fury. I didn't cry. Instead, I walked into the penthouse of the Barretts, the Cooleys' most powerful rivals. I signed a marriage contract with Kane Barrett, the man the tabloids called the "Beast of Wall Street." "I want a wedding," I told his father, my voice steady and lethal. "Bigger than the one I had with Gray." If they wanted me gone, they would have to watch me become the woman who owns their world.

“"Breaking news: a man's head was spotted again near the head quarters of the police, they suspect that the number 1 serial killer Exodus is the perpetrator of the crime again" I didn't pay attention to what was being said in the news because I was busy working Food here in the kitchen. "It's really scary to come out now, why hasn't that Exodus been caught yet, he's already killed so many innocent people." "Yes, of course it's still alive, but its soul is being burned in hell." whispered our housemates at home. I can't blame them why they talk like that to that Criminal because it is true that he has killed so many people. I don't know why there are people who can kill their fellow human beings. They will not be blessed if they do that and they have no right to take the lives of others because they are not God.”
