Nineteen-year-old Yuhan, on the eve of the college entrance examination, lost her family and was left homeless. She took refuge in the household of Fu Mingyi as his fiancée. Yuhan thought that he took over her shattered life out of respect for her grandfather's wishes, but gradually she began to sense something amiss. He arranged for her to retake the exam and ensured she could study in peace, shielding her from any discord within the Fu household. He attended every school parent meeting, anniversary celebration, and sports event, ensuring that she, like other students, could have these experiences despite losing her parents. Confronting Fu's disapproving mother, he embraced her, firmly stating, "In this lifetime, I only want her." At that moment, Yuhan thought to herself, "Mr. Fu is indeed filial, because he could go to such lengths for a single word from Grandfather Fu." Until one day, rumors of her scandal spread in the class, eventually reaching Fu Mingyi's ears. Yuhan believed that even a fool could see through the gossip, Mr. Fu would surely not take it seriously. Later, the man remained gentle and refined, his deep voice carrying a subtle threat, "Who is that young man? Hmm?"

Professor Fu pretends to be a straight-laced person. Chapter 1 Relationship

Jingzhou First High School.

In the sweltering heat of September, the lingering summer heatwave gripped the air, making it stifling even with the air conditioning on in the administrative office. The head teacher stood before Yuhan, her tone stern. "Yuhan, I'll ask you again, why did you hit someone?" Yuhan hung her head in silence. From the moment she entered the office, she remained silent.

The teacher, frustrated, said, "Even after saying 'good' three times, you still won't speak up. Let's see if you still have this attitude when your parents arrive." At the mention of parents, the girl's eyelashes trembled, her head sinking even lower, like a blade of grass surviving under a fierce wind.

A boy sitting on the desk nearby whistled, "Teacher, why are you intimidating the little girl?" The teacher snapped, "Xie Yan! Get off the desk!"

"Alright!" Xie Yan hopped off the desk carelessly, standing with a nonchalant air. There was a noticeable red mark on his forehead.

If it weren't for the fact that Yuhan had caused the injury on his forehead, she might have thought Xie Yan was a good person.

Ten minutes later, rhythmic knocking echoed through the office. Xie Yan looked at Yuhan with malicious delight, as if saying, "You're done for."

But his joy was short-lived. The girl didn't even acknowledge his presence.

Upon hearing the knocking, Yuhan's fingers, hanging at her side, suddenly clenched her pants. She stiffly turned her head to face the approaching person.

The man seemed to have rushed over, his chest slightly heaving, sweat dripping from his forehead down his chin and disappearing into his neck. As their eyes met, Yuhan quickly lowered her head.

Fu Mingyi: "..."

Was he a ferocious beast?

Well, if she were a student who had made a mistake and he happened to be her guardian, then yes, he indeed could be likened to a ferocious beast. Then suddenly, a voice exploded in her ears: "Uncle Fu?!" from Xie Yan.

Yuhan looked up incredulously at Fu Mingyi.

Was he Xie Yan's uncle?

Xie Yan seemed even more surprised and delighted. "Uncle, I didn't call you. How did you know I was being bullied?"

Great, with Uncle here, he could definitely teach this ungrateful girl a lesson.

Only now did Fu Mingyi notice Xie Yan's presence. He frowned slightly, ignoring Xie Yan, and nodded politely to the teacher. "Hello, I am Yuhan's guardian."

Xie Yan: "???"

What about him?

Did his uncle not recognize him as his nephew?

The teachers in the administrative office exchanged bewildered glances.

What kind of scene was this? They had never seen such a thing before.

It was the head teacher who reacted first, clearing his throat and summarizing the situation. In short, Yuhan had hit a classmate at school and refused to admit her mistake, showing a bad attitude.

Fu Mingyi looked at Yuhan with surprise. The girl, with her delicate figure and lowered head, showed no emotion. She had been as obedient as a quail during her time at his house, and Fu Mingyi couldn't reconcile the idea of her hitting someone.

After a moment's thought, he said, "Is there perhaps a misunderstanding here? I know our girl; she wouldn't pick a fight."

"Uncle!"

Xie Yan, feeling aggrieved, stepped forward, pushing Yuhan aside. He pointed to the red mark on his forehead and said, "Look, she did this!"

Fu Mingyi looked coolly at him, then took Yuhan's wrist and pulled her behind him. "Did you provoke her first?"

"... "

Xie Yan was speechless. Although he had been correct in his assumption, he had never seen anyone twist the truth like this!

Yuhan's wrist, held by him, felt hot on the outside but moist and warm on the inside, causing her arm to tremble.

Fu Mingyi stood tall in front of her like an impenetrable wall, strangely reassuring.

The head teacher, emerging from his daze, described how atrocious the incident was, and Fu Mingyi readily agreed. But at the end, he asked, "So, how do you suggest we handle this?"

"Generally, we would consider the feelings of the victim first..."

Fu Mingyi nodded and turned to Xie Yan. "What compensation do you want?"

"... "

This uncle of his seemed gentle and easygoing, but appearances could be deceiving.

Xie Yan's dream of seeing Yuhan scolded to tears shattered with a sigh. "Just ask her to apologize."

"Alright."

Fu Mingyi brought Yuhan forward. "It's right to apologize after hitting someone."

Yuhan, who hadn't spoken a word the whole time, lifted her head, showing a plain, white face. Without hesitation, she said, "I'm sorry." Her clear and bright eyes made Xie Yan feel a bit embarrassed. He waved his hand and said, "Forget it, I won't hold it against you."

After all, he had started it.

In the name of fairness, the disciplinary office deducted seven points from Yuhan's behavior score.

After the deduction, Fu Mingyi asked Yuhan to wait outside, and he ushered Xie Yan out along with him.

Outside the door, Yuhan took a few steps away from them, creating some distance.

Xie Yan laughed at her gesture. "Hey, what's your relationship with my uncle anyway?" What relationship? Lodging, gratitude, or something else? Yuhan wasn't sure.

Maybe, to him, she was a big trouble.

Because on the day he brought her back, she saw Fu Mingyi's mother expressing dissatisfaction with him.

Yuhan felt a little confused and finally shook her head.

Was he just being polite?

Xie Yan grinded his teeth and smiled. "Guess what they're talking about inside?" This statement attracted the puzzled gaze of the girl. "...What do you mean?"

Xie Yan smirked mysteriously and fell silent.

After five or six minutes, the door opened.

As Fu Mingyi stepped out, he saw the two of them standing like door gods on either side.

Xie Yan looked as insolent as ever, while Yuhan, nervously and awkwardly, seemed to want to say something.

She had always avoided him.

But now, her sudden change of behavior softened Fu Mingyi's heart. He said gently, "Go back and pack your things. I'll take you to the hospital." Yuhan had only recently been discharged from the hospital, so it was a good opportunity to go back for a check-up.

Yuhan nodded and hurried back to the classroom.

Xie Yan's wailing voice came from behind, "Uncle, it's me who got beaten up, why don't you take me to the hospital?"

And then Fu Mingyi's kind reply: "Get lost."

A smile crept onto Yuhan's lips, and the gloomy mood lifted slightly.

So, the courteous Mr. Fu could also scold people. It was during self-study time, and Yuhan's return attracted quite a few curious, sympathetic, and compassionate looks.

As she returned to her seat to pack her things, her desk

The heavy thud of the release stamp was the only goodbye I got from the warden after five years in federal prison. I stepped out into the blinding sun, expecting the same flash of paparazzi bulbs that had seen me dragged away in handcuffs, but there was only a single black limousine idling on the shoulder of the road. Inside sat my mother and sister, clutching champagne and looking at my frayed coat with pure disgust. They didn't offer a welcome home; instead, they tossed a thick legal document onto the table and told me I was dead to the city. "Gavin and I are getting engaged," my sister Mia sneered, flicking a credit card at me like I was a stray dog. "He doesn't need a convict ex-fiancée hanging around." Even after I saved their lives from an armed kidnapping attempt by ramming the attackers off the road, they rewarded me by leaving me stranded in the dirt. When I finally ran into Gavin, the man who had framed me, he pinned me against a wall and threatened to send me back to a cell if I ever dared to show my face at their wedding. They had stolen my biotech research, ruined my name, and let me rot for half a decade while they lived off my brilliance. They thought they had broken me, leaving me with nothing but an expired chapstick and a few old photos in a plastic bag. What they didn't know was that I had spent those five years becoming "Dr. X," a shadow consultant with five hundred million dollars in crypto and a secret that would bring the city to its knees. I wasn't just a victim anymore; I was a weapon, and I was pregnant with the heir they thought they had erased. I walked into the Melton estate and made an offer to the most powerful man in New York. "I'll save your grandfather's life," I told Horatio Melton, staring him down. "But the price is your last name. I'm taking back what's mine, and I'm starting with the man who thinks he's marrying my sister."

I married Clive Harrington, the coldest billionaire in Manhattan, under a strict contract that forbade any emotional burdens. When I needed a high-risk surgery to save my sight, I checked into the clinic alone, hiding the procedure from a husband who saw me as nothing more than a legal asset. I thought I could handle the darkness in silence. But while I was blind and bandaged in my hospital bed, my biological mother called, screaming that if I didn't produce a Harrington heir by the end of the fiscal year, she would cut off the life-saving treatments for my disabled sister. I was crawling on the cold hospital floor, desperately feeling for a cane I had dropped, when I touched a pair of expensive leather shoes. It was Clive. He was supposed to be in London closing a multi-million dollar deal, but there he was, watching his "contract wife" groveling in the dark like a beggar. He didn't walk away in disgust. He carried me to a five-thousand-dollar-a-night VIP suite and sat by my bed, listening in chilling silence as another voicemail from my mother filled the room, calling me a "useless broodmare" who was only worth the trust fund disbursements my marriage secured. I expected him to remind me of Clause 34B or hand me divorce papers now that I was "damaged goods." Instead, I felt his thumb brush a stray tear from my cheek, his presence shifting from a statue of ice into a predatory shield. "I thought I was just currency to you," I whispered, my voice trembling behind the gauze. "Just an investment." Clive didn't answer with words. He picked up his phone and called his head of legal with a single, terrifying command: "Kill the Douglas family’s credit lines. Every debt, every lien—trigger them all. If they want a war, I’ll give them a massacre." As he leaned down to kiss my bandaged forehead, I realized the contract was dead. My husband wasn't protecting an asset anymore; he was hunting the people who had dared to touch what belonged to him.

I had just survived a private jet crash, my body a map of violet bruises and my lungs still burning from the smoke. I woke up in a sterile hospital room, gasping for my husband's name, only to realize I was completely alone. While I was bleeding in a ditch, my husband, Adam, was on the news smiling at a ribbon-cutting ceremony. When I tracked him down at the hospital's VIP wing, I didn't find a grieving husband. I found him tenderly cradling his ex-girlfriend, Casie, in his arms, his face lit with a protective warmth he had never shown me as he carried her into the maternity ward. The betrayal went deeper than I could have imagined. Adam admitted the affair started on our third anniversary-the night he claimed he was stuck in London for a merger. Back at the manor, his mother had already filled our planned nursery with pink boutique bags for Casie's "little princess." When I demanded a divorce, Adam didn't flinch. He sneered that I was "gutter trash" from a foster home and that I'd be begging on the streets within a week. To trap me, he froze my bank accounts, cancelled my flight, and even called the police to report me for "theft" of company property. I realized then that I wasn't his partner; I was a charity case he had plucked from obscurity to manage his life. To the Hortons, I was just a servant who happened to sleep in the master bedroom, a "resilient" woman meant to endure his abuse in silence while the whole world laughed at the joke that was my marriage. Adam thought stripping me of his money would make me crawl back to him. He was wrong. I walked into his executive suite during his biggest deal of the year and poured a mug of sludge over his original ten-million-dollar contracts. Then, right in front of his board and his mistress, I stripped off every designer thread he had ever paid for until I was standing in nothing but my own silk camisole. "You can keep the clothes, Adam. They're as hollow as you are." I grabbed my passport, turned my back on his billions, and walked out of that glass tower barefoot, bleeding, and finally free.

I was once the heiress to the Solomon empire, but after it crumbled, I became the "charity case" ward of the wealthy Hyde family. For years, I lived in their shadows, clinging to the promise that Anson Hyde would always be my protector. That promise shattered when Anson walked into the ballroom with Claudine Chapman on his arm. Claudine was the girl who had spent years making my life a living hell, and now Anson was announcing their engagement to the world. The humiliation was instant. Guests sneered at my cheap dress, and a waiter intentionally sloshed champagne over me, knowing I was a nobody. Anson didn't even look my way; he was too busy whispering possessively to his new fiancée. I was a ghost in my own home, watching my protector celebrate with my tormentor. The betrayal burned. I realized I wasn't a ward; I was a pawn Anson had kept on a shelf until he found a better trade. I had no money, no allies, and a legal trust fund that Anson controlled with a flick of his wrist. Fleeing to the library, I stumbled into Dallas Koch—a titan of industry and my best friend’s father. He was a wall of cold, absolute power that even the Hydes feared. "Marry me," I blurted out, desperate to find a shield Anson couldn't climb. Dallas didn't laugh. He pulled out a marriage agreement and a heavy fountain pen. "Sign," he commanded, his voice a low rumble. "But if you walk out that door with me, you never go back." I signed my name, trading my life for the only man dangerous enough to keep me safe.
