River Town

The air is filled with humidity as summertime approaches in this small Virginia town located just miles away from North Carolina. There's not much going on in such a sleepy town except for one thing, the river.

Marissa sits in her car in the parking lot, gazing out the window. She works as a nurse at the local hospital. She loves her job. She loves taking care of others. Even though it's a stressful profession, she knows that it's worth it. It's worth aiding those to recovery and being there for people in the hard times.

As she stares out the window, she wonders if there's something missing from her life. She's in her 30s doing the same thing she's been doing since her early 20s. Not much as changed in a decade. She still lives in the same town and works at the same hospital.

She's never been married and does not have children. She has always dreamed about being a wife and mother. As she gazes off into the trees beside the hospital, thinking about life, her alarm goes off to let her know that it's time to clock into her twelve hour shift.

She goes in, checks her assignment for the day, and makes her rounds. After her twelve long hours of caring for her patients, it's time to go home. She clocks out, relieved that it's her weekend off.

She has made plans with her best friend Holly to spend their Saturday out on the river. It's a much needed stress relief from her duties as a nurse.

Marissa eats dinner, takes a shower, and goes to bed with excitement for the following day.
