Chapter 1 Episode 1

CHAPTER ONE

Elara's POV

My heart stopped as I stared at the most handsome man I had ever seen. He was tall, muscular, and had bright blue eyes that made me weak.

"Elara, what's wrong with you?" my best friend Serenity asked, poking my shoulder.

"Huh? Oh, um, nothing," I mumbled, looking away from the man.

Serenity followed my gaze. "Wow, he's hot! But definitely an Alpha. You can tell by his power."

I sighed. "Yeah, you're right. He's probably a jerk like most Alphas."

"But you're dating a future Alpha too, remember?"

I frowned at her. "Tyler is different. He's not like them."

Serenity shrugged. "If you say so. Hey, you should go talk to that guy!"

"What? No way! I have a boyfriend, Serenity."

"I didn't say sleep with him, just flirt a little! Live a little, Elara. You're almost 18."

I watched the handsome stranger walk away, biting my lip. Maybe Serenity was right. It couldn't hurt to explore...

Curiosity got the best of me. I went to check out the other floors, secretly hoping I might run into him. Just as the elevator doors were closing, he dashed inside!

"Sorry about that," he said, grabbing my shoulders to steady himself. Then his eyes met mine and widened. "Well hello there, beautiful. I'm Luke ." He slid an arm around my waist, twirling my red hair with his other hand. I nearly melted.

"I'm Ser - I mean, Elara," I stammered. God, he was even better looking up close. The elevator dinged and I quickly pulled away, dashing down the hall before I did something I'd regret.

I turned a corner and froze. I couldn't believe what I was seeing. My boyfriend Tyler had some girl pinned against the wall, whispering in her ear as she giggled and touched his chest. Rage boiled inside me.

'How dare he cheat on us!' My wolf Davina growled in my mind. 'We're royalty! He'll pay for this!'

I spun around and stomped back to the elevator, my eyes flashing with anger. Luke was there waiting for me.

"Woah, your eyes! What's going on?" He cupped my face in his hand, looking concerned.

I didn't answer. I was too furious and hurt to think straight. Without a word, I grabbed him and kissed him hard on the mouth. He made a noise of surprise before pulling me against him, kissing me back with a hunger that left me breathless.

He pressed me up against the elevator wall, his hands roaming my body as I wrapped my legs around his waist. I could feel how badly he wanted me. At that moment, I wanted him too. I just wanted to forget everything and lose myself in him.

The elevator dinged again and Luke quickly set me down, both of us panting. "Shit, we can't do this here."

Reality came crashing back and I burst into tears, overcome with shame and confusion. What was I doing? I pushed past Luke and ran out of the elevator, ignoring him calling my name.

I didn't stop running until I was far away from the club, finally collapsing against a tree and sobbing. Davina whispered dark thoughts in my mind, urging me to get revenge on Tyler. But I was too overwhelmed to think about that now. All I could do was cry, my heart shattered into pieces.

How could Tyler do this to me? I thought he loved me! And why did I let myself get so carried away with Luke ? Was I no better than Tyler?

I wiped my eyes, taking deep breaths to calm myself. I had to get out of here. I couldn't face Tyler, not now. I'd go stay with Serenity for the night until I figured out what to do.

As if reading my mind, Serenity came bursting out of the club. "Elara! There you are!" She hurried over to me, her face etched with worry. "What happened? Why did you run off?"

"I...I caught Tyler with another girl," I choked out. "He was a-all over her, Serenity." I started crying again.

"That bastard!" She wrapped me in a tight hug. "I'm so sorry, El. You deserve way better than him."

"And I kissed someone else too," I mumbled into her shoulder. "The Alpha guy from before. I feel awful."

She pulled back to look at me. "Woah, really? Damn girl, when you rebound you go big!"

I gave her a look and she quickly backtracked. "I mean, uh, these things happen. Emotions were running high. Don't be too hard on yourself, okay? The important thing is figuring out what you want to do now."

I sighed heavily. She was right. I had a lot to think about. "Can I stay with you tonight? I can't go home right now."

"Of course babe, whatever you need." She took my hand and led me towards her car.

As we walked, I glanced back at the club one last time. For a split second, I thought I saw a flash of bright blue eyes watching me from the entrance. Luke . My heart skipped a beat.

I quickly faced forward again. No, I couldn't think about him right now. I had to focus on myself and what I was going to do about Tyler. My life had turned upside down in one night.

Little did I know, this was only the beginning...

I watched my husband sign the papers that would end our marriage while he was busy texting the woman he actually loved. He didn't even glance at the header. He just scribbled the sharp, jagged signature that had signed death warrants for half of New York, tossed the file onto the passenger seat, and tapped his screen again. "Done," he said, his voice devoid of emotion. That was Dante Moretti. The Underboss. A man who could smell a lie from a mile away but couldn't see that his wife had just handed him an annulment decree disguised beneath a stack of mundane logistics reports. For three years, I scrubbed his blood out of his shirts. I saved his family's alliance when his ex, Sofia, ran off with a civilian. In return, he treated me like furniture. He left me in the rain to save Sofia from a broken nail. He left me alone on my birthday to drink champagne on a yacht with her. He even handed me a glass of whiskey—her favorite drink—forgetting that I despised the taste. I was merely a placeholder. A ghost in my own home. So, I stopped waiting. I burned our wedding portrait in the fireplace, left my platinum ring in the ashes, and boarded a one-way flight to San Francisco. I thought I was finally free. I thought I had escaped the cage. But I underestimated Dante. When he finally opened that file weeks later and realized he had signed away his wife without looking, the Reaper didn't accept defeat. He burned down the world to find me, obsessed with reclaiming the woman he had already thrown away.

I was four months pregnant, weighing over two hundred pounds, and my heart was failing from experimental treatments forced on me as a child. My doctor looked at me with clinical detachment and told me I was in a death sentence: if I kept the baby, I would die, and if I tried to remove it, I would die. Desperate for a lifeline, I called my father, Francis Acosta, to tell him I was sick and pregnant. I expected a father's love, but all I got was a cold, sharp blade of a voice. "Then do it quietly," he said. "Don't embarrass Candi. Her debutante ball is coming up." He didn't just reject me; he erased me. My trust fund was frozen, and I was told I was no longer an Acosta. My fiancé, Auston, had already discarded me, calling me a "bloated whale" while he looked for a thinner, wealthier replacement. I left New York on a Greyhound bus, weeping into a bag of chips, a broken woman the world considered a mistake. I couldn't understand how my own father could tell me to die "quietly" just to save face for a party. I didn't know why I had been a lab rat for my family’s pharmaceutical ambitions, or how they could sleep at night while I was left to rot in the gray drizzle of the city. Five years later, the doors of JFK International Airport slid open. I stepped onto the marble floor in red-soled stilettos, my body lean, lethal, and carved from years of blood and sweat. I wasn't the "whale" anymore; I was a ghost coming back to haunt them. With my daughter by my side and a medical reputation that terrified the global elite, I was ready to dismantle the Acosta empire piece by piece. "Tell Francis to wash his neck," I whispered to the skyline. "I'm home."

Nicole had entered marriage with Walter, a man who never returned her feelings, bound to him through an arrangement made by their families rather than by choice. Even so, she had held onto the quiet belief that time might soften his heart and that one day he would learn to love her. However, that day never came. Instead, he treated her with constant contempt, tearing her down with cruel words and dismissing her as fat and manipulative whenever it suited him. After two years of a cold and distant marriage, Walter demanded a divorce, delivering his decision in the most degrading manner he could manage. Stripped of her dignity and exhausted by the humiliation, Nicole agreed to her friend Brenda's plan to make him see what he had lost. The idea was simple but daring. She would use another man to prove that the woman Walter had mocked and insulted could still be desired by someone else. All they had to do was hire a gigolo. Patrick had endured one romantic disappointment after another. Every woman he had been involved with had been drawn not to him, but to his wealth. As one of the heirs to a powerful and influential family, he had long accepted that this pattern was almost unavoidable. What Patrick wanted was far more difficult to find. He longed to fall in love with a woman who cared for him as a person, not for the name he carried or the fortune attached to it. One night, while he was at a bar, an attractive stranger approached him. Because of his appearance and composed demeanor, she mistook him for a gigolo. She made an unconventional proposal, one that immediately caught his interest and proved impossible for him to refuse.
