Kyra has been unable to conceive for two years after getting married. The doctor said Kyra is malnourished and needs to eat "meat" to be able to have a son. Kyra secretly eats snake and rat meat every day behind her family's back. At six months pregnant, during a major anomaly scan, I discovered the baby has a cleft lip. There are also heart issues, and I suggested to Kyra that she should not keep the baby. When the child was born, it was a deformity, and the whole family wanted me to take the blame.
Chapter 1
Kyra had been trying to conceive for two years after her marriage, but without success. The doctor advised her to improve her nutrition and eat "meat" to aid in conceiving. She began secretly consuming various meats every day.
When she was six months pregnant, a detailed ultrasound revealed that the baby had a cleft lip and heart issues. I suggested not keeping the baby. When the baby was born with deformities, the whole family expected me to be the fall guy, responsible for the family's problems.
**Chapter 1**
"Mom, it's either her or me in this house. I can't live here if she stays!" Kyra screamed from the kitchen door, clutching a knife threateningly.
I took a deep breath, trying to stay calm. "The baby has serious heart and brain issues, Kyra. If it's born, it might either die or be severely brain-damaged!"
Without warning, Kyra threw the knife at me. Luckily, my dad pulled me aside just in time, and it embedded in the wall.
"She just doesn't want me to have this baby because she's afraid it will take your love and attention away!" Kyra cried hysterically.
"Jordyn, you're thirty and don't plan on getting married. Why can't you just be happy for me? I tried for two years to have this baby. He'll at least call you Aunt Jordyn. Why can't you wish him well?"
"I'm trying to look out for you. I'm giving you a kind reminder!" I tried to reason with her.
"Bullshit! You just want the house all to yourself!"
Kyra pointed at Andrew. "Andrew, this baby is yours. If you don't make her leave today, I'll get rid of the baby tomorrow!"
**Chapter 2**
I looked at my brother, hardly believing my ears. Andrew and I had always been close growing up, living in the most luxurious homes together. Before he got married, we were the best of friends.
"Brother..." I pleaded.
"Jordyn, stop provoking Kyra. Just move out!" Andrew snapped, avoiding my gaze.
"Mom, pinch me. Did my brother just tell me to move out?" I asked, turning to my mother.
"Pack your things and move out," my mom said, weariness etched on her face. It felt as if I was the one causing all the chaos.
I turned to my dad, hoping for some support, but he frowned. "Jordyn, you're thirty years old. People gossip because you're still living at home."
Their words hit me like a bucket of cold water. Just last night, I had bought my mom a gold bracelet, my dad a new phone, my brother the game console he had wanted, and Kyra that LV bag she'd been eyeing.
As I left without breakfast this morning, my mom had chased me downstairs with some food. Was everything I had seen just an illusion?
Kyra smirked. "Jordyn, Mom and Dad, and Andrew have long wanted you to move out!"
I glanced back at my parents. My mom gritted her teeth. "Jordyn, Kyra isn't wrong. With you here, this house is in constant turmoil!"
"Can't you be more sensible and stop causing trouble?"
A cold shiver ran down my spine. It felt like being left out in the cold.
Andrew, whether out of guilt or embarrassment, couldn't even look me in the eye.
I gave them a cold glance. "Fine, if this house can't accommodate me, then I'll leave!"
**Chapter 3**
I went to my room and started packing my most valuable belongings.
Kyra watched as I filled three suitcases, her panic evident.
"Jordyn, those things were bought with family money. What will I use if you take them?"
"How is that my problem?" I retorted.
I used to treat her as my sister-in-law. Whenever she liked something of mine, I would give it to her. Who knew she was just an ingrate?
Kyra started arguing with Andrew. He awkwardly asked, "Jordyn, Kyra is pregnant. She can't be stressed!"
"How is her stress my concern? Did I make her pregnant?"
"She keeps saying I'm after the family property. You all heard her. Now she wants to take the things I bought with my own money. Are you all blind?"
I grabbed the game console on the coffee table and the LV bag hanging by the door.
"Jordyn, that's my bag! Put it down!" Kyra yelled, holding her belly, and nudged Andrew towards me.
Andrew looked displeased. "Does it have your name on it? Do you have the receipt?"
"For your sake, I might end up harming you. Don't blame me if your baby has problems because I bought you a fake bag!"
Andrew, scared by my fierce look, watched me leave.
I waited at the building entrance for several minutes, hoping my parents would come after me. After more than an hour, it started raining, but no one came to check on me.
From upstairs, I could hear Kyra's intermittent crying and shouting.
I had never felt so disappointed in my family before. I moved all my things to the small apartment I had quietly bought for myself.
By the time I finished unpacking, it was already midnight. I didn't have to work the next day, so I slept in.
When I woke up, I had dozens of missed calls on my phone.
