The moon hung low in the sky, casting its silver glow over the Bloodmoon Pack's territory, but there was no peace in the air. The wolves, restless and tense, moved in silence under the rule of their feared Alpha, Talon Bloodmoon. His cold, piercing eyes scanned his pack, seeing them not as family but as soldiers in a war that never ended. To him, emotions were a weakness-especially love. He had long decided that the bond of a mate was nothing more than a distraction. Elara, hidden among the shadows of the pack, kept her gaze lowered as the other wolves passed her. A slave. That's all they saw her as. They had no idea of her true lineage, no knowledge that she was once royalty, a daughter of a proud Alpha brought to ruin by the very man who now commanded her like a dog. Her heart burned with vengeance, but she couldn't afford to show it. Not yet. But even as she swore to destroy him, she couldn't deny the strange pull she felt whenever he was near. The unexplainable connection that made her hate him even more. Unbeknownst to both, fate had already intertwined their souls in ways neither could imagine. They were mates, bound by the will of the moon itself. And nothing-no amount of hatred, pain, or war-could sever that bond.

The Alpha's Forsaken Mate Chapter 1 The Alpha's Eyes

The full moon hung heavy over the Bloodmoon Pack's territory, its glow bathing the forest in cold silver light. The pack's camp, usually filled with the sounds of wolves and laughter, was now eerily silent, the air thick with tension. All eyes were on him-the Alpha.

Talon Bloodmoon, the ruthless leader of the Bloodmoon Pack, stood tall at the center of the clearing. His sharp features cast shadows across his face, and his icy blue eyes scanned the gathered wolves with a cold indifference. A man bred for war, Talon had learned early on that power came not from kindness but from domination. Emotions were weaknesses, vulnerabilities that had no place in the heart of a leader.

He had no use for the sentimentalities of his packmates. He had no need for mates or love. The thought of being bound to someone-chained by an invisible bond-repulsed him. And yet, there was a stirring deep inside him that he could not ignore, a tension that had been brewing for weeks. It was as though the very air around him carried a secret he was unwilling to uncover.

"Alpha, the scouts have returned," his Beta, Raiden, interrupted Talon's thoughts, his voice deep and steady.

Talon's gaze shifted to Raiden. His Beta had been his closest confidant for years, but even now, Talon could feel the jealousy festering beneath the surface. Raiden was loyal, but ambition could change a wolf, and Talon kept that in mind. He gave a curt nod, and Raiden motioned to the group of scouts emerging from the trees.

"Alpha Talon," the lead scout spoke, bowing his head. "The Silverclaw Pack has been seen near the border again. They're pushing their patrols closer, testing us."

A growl rumbled in Talon's chest, and his fingers flexed, itching for a fight. The Silverclaw Pack had been a thorn in his side for months now, led by the conniving Alpha Kade. Their incursions had increased in frequency, threatening the fragile balance of power in the region. War was inevitable.

"Double the patrols along the border," Talon commanded, his voice like ice. "We will not be caught off guard."

The scout nodded and retreated into the crowd. Talon's gaze swept over his pack once more, but his attention was drawn, as if by an unseen force, to the back of the gathering. Standing there, head bowed and cloaked in the shadows, was a figure that stirred something deep within him.

**Elara.**

She was always there, just beyond the periphery of his vision, a ghost in his camp. She was a slave, no more than a servant, but there was something about her that unsettled him. Her hair, dark and wild, spilled over her shoulders, and though she kept her eyes downcast, Talon had caught glimpses of them before-striking, defiant, and filled with a silent fury.

He had no reason to notice her. She was beneath him in every way. Yet something in the pit of his stomach twisted whenever she was near, a sensation he couldn't explain. And he hated it.

Elara kept her head low as she felt Talon's eyes on her, a familiar prickle of fear and anger coursing through her veins. She had learned to stay in the background, to keep to the shadows where she wouldn't be noticed. The life of a slave in the Bloodmoon Pack was a life of suffering. She had no name to them, no history, no importance. But they didn't know the truth.

They didn't know she was once Elara Moonveil, daughter of the proud Alpha of the Moonveil Pack. They didn't know her family had been slaughtered by the Bloodmoon warriors, nor that she had been taken as a slave to hide her true identity. The pain of her loss, the humiliation of her position, fueled her desire for revenge, but she had to be careful. She couldn't afford to let anyone know who she truly was-not yet.

Especially not him.

Talon's gaze lingered too long on her, and Elara's heart pounded in her chest. He was the man responsible for her family's downfall. The Alpha who had led the attack that decimated her people. She loathed him with every fiber of her being, yet there was something in the way he looked at her that made her uneasy.

Was it suspicion? Recognition? Or something else?

Whatever it was, she couldn't risk drawing his attention. Not now, not when she was so close to her goal. She just needed time.

"Elara," a voice hissed from beside her, snapping her out of her thoughts. One of the other slaves, a girl named Lyra, nudged her sharply. "Stop standing there like a statue. We need to finish cleaning the Alpha's quarters before he returns."

Elara blinked, pulling herself back to the present. She nodded silently, following Lyra back toward the Alpha's den. But as she moved, she could still feel Talon's eyes burning into her back.

**Later That Night**

Talon paced his chambers, the tension coiling in his muscles. The night was thick with the weight of unspoken words, and though he tried to focus on the looming threat of the Silverclaw Pack, his mind kept drifting back to her-Elara. He couldn't shake the strange pull she had over him. It was as though the very air changed when she was near, a subtle shift that unsettled him.

"Damn it," he muttered under his breath, rubbing his temples.

He had faced countless enemies in his life, waged wars that tested his strength and endurance, but this...this feeling unnerved him in ways he couldn't understand. His wolf stirred restlessly inside him, pacing, growling, as if trying to tell him something he refused to hear.

But what was it?

Just then, the door to his chamber creaked open, and the scent hit him before he even saw her. Elara. The air shifted again, charged with something electric. She entered, her head bowed as usual, carrying a tray of food. She moved quickly, efficiently, her eyes never meeting his.

And yet, he couldn't tear his gaze away from her.

"You're late," Talon growled, though he knew the words were unnecessary. Elara stiffened but said nothing, placing the tray on the table by the fireplace.

The silence stretched between them, thick and tense, until finally, Talon couldn't take it anymore.

"What are you hiding?"

The question slipped from his lips before he could stop it. Elara froze, her back to him, her hands tightening on the tray. For a moment, she didn't move, didn't speak. Talon's eyes narrowed, watching the tension in her shoulders, the way she fought to keep her composure.

"I'm not hiding anything, Alpha," she replied, her voice steady but tight.

Talon crossed the room in two swift strides, his hand wrapping around her wrist before she could move away. The contact sent a shock through him, his wolf howling inside his mind. Elara gasped softly, her eyes finally meeting his, wide and startled.

In that moment, something clicked. It wasn't just a connection-it was a bond. A pull so strong it nearly brought him to his knees. His breath caught in his throat, and for the first time in his life, he felt powerless.

"You're lying," he whispered, his voice hoarse. He wasn't just talking about her words-he was talking about the truth that hung between them, unspoken but undeniable.

Elara yanked her hand free, her eyes burning with hatred. "I'm a slave, Alpha. What could I possibly be hiding?"

Talon watched her for a long moment, his mind racing, his wolf howling for answers. But Elara was already moving, slipping out of his grasp and disappearing through the door.

As the door slammed shut behind her, Talon's heart pounded in his chest. He didn't know what was happening, didn't understand the force that pulled them together. But one thing was clear-this wasn't over.

Not by a long shot.

My bank account showed exactly $42.18, and my student loan notifications were flashing red. I lived in a sweltering Queens apartment with my Aunt Lydia, where the air was thick with the smell of stale frying oil and the constant threat of being homeless. Lydia handed me a grainy photo of a man twice my age and told me she had already "sold" me to him. He was a dry cleaner looking for a wife, and in exchange for my hand, he would pay off her credit cards and my debt. If I didn't show up for the date that night, my boxes would be on the curb by midnight. I arrived at the cafe in a state of panic, my selective mutism making it impossible to even breathe. In the crowded room, I accidentally sat at the wrong table. Instead of the man from the photo, I found myself facing Gerhard Holcomb—the cold, terrifyingly handsome billionaire whose family owned the very museum where I worked. He didn't send me away; instead, he studied my trembling hands and offered me a different deal: a two-year contract marriage, a two-million-dollar payout, and a strict clause forbidding any children. I signed the papers and moved into his Park Avenue penthouse, thinking I was finally safe. But when I went back to the old apartment to retrieve the only memento of my dead parents, Lydia lashed out, leaving me bleeding from a head wound. Gerhard’s retaliation was absolute—he had her arrested and her building foreclosed on within hours, claiming he was simply "protecting his assets." As I recovered in his silent, glass-walled home, I saw a call from a famous socialite flash on his phone, and a cold truth settled in my gut. I wasn't just a wife; I was a placeholder, a silent shield used to fend off the women from his past. I looked at the massive pink diamond on my finger and realized the silence I had lived in my whole life was about to become my most expensive prison. I had traded a life of poverty for a high-stakes game of shadows, and now I had to survive the man who claimed to own me.

I was once the heiress to the Solomon empire, but after it crumbled, I became the "charity case" ward of the wealthy Hyde family. For years, I lived in their shadows, clinging to the promise that Anson Hyde would always be my protector. That promise shattered when Anson walked into the ballroom with Claudine Chapman on his arm. Claudine was the girl who had spent years making my life a living hell, and now Anson was announcing their engagement to the world. The humiliation was instant. Guests sneered at my cheap dress, and a waiter intentionally sloshed champagne over me, knowing I was a nobody. Anson didn't even look my way; he was too busy whispering possessively to his new fiancée. I was a ghost in my own home, watching my protector celebrate with my tormentor. The betrayal burned. I realized I wasn't a ward; I was a pawn Anson had kept on a shelf until he found a better trade. I had no money, no allies, and a legal trust fund that Anson controlled with a flick of his wrist. Fleeing to the library, I stumbled into Dallas Koch-a titan of industry and my best friend's father. He was a wall of cold, absolute power that even the Hydes feared. "Marry me," I blurted out, desperate to find a shield Anson couldn't climb. Dallas didn't laugh. He pulled out a marriage agreement and a heavy fountain pen. "Sign," he commanded, his voice a low rumble. "But if you walk out that door with me, you never go back." I signed my name, trading my life for the only man dangerous enough to keep me safe.

I went to the City Clerk’s office for a routine copy of my marriage license to finalize a trust fund audit. I expected a simple piece of paper, but the clerk’s pitying look told me my entire life was a lie. "The license was never finalized, Ms. Oliver. In the eyes of the state, you are single." The three-hundred-guest wedding at the Plaza and the Vogue features meant nothing. My husband, Gray Cooley, had intentionally filed the documents with a "procedural defect" so he could discard me without a legal divorce. Moments later, an iCloud invite titled "Our Little Secret" popped up on my screen. It was a photo of my best friend, Brylee, holding a positive pregnancy test at our Hamptons estate. Gray’s text to her was the final blow: "Happy anniversary, babe. This baby is the best gift. Once the trust unlocks today, we’re done with the charade." I soon discovered they were even stealing my career, reassigning my architectural masterpiece to Brylee while preparing my eviction notice. Gray's mother called me a "barren mule" in a leaked recording, mocking the infertility I suffered after saving Gray’s life in a construction accident. I wasn't a wife; I was a three-year placeholder used to secure his inheritance. How could the man I bled for treat me like a disposable prop? How could my best friend carry his child while pretending to comfort me through my darkest moments? The betrayal burned until it turned into a cold, hard stone of fury. I didn't cry. Instead, I walked into the penthouse of the Barretts, the Cooleys' most powerful rivals. I signed a marriage contract with Kane Barrett, the man the tabloids called the "Beast of Wall Street." "I want a wedding," I told his father, my voice steady and lethal. "Bigger than the one I had with Gray." If they wanted me gone, they would have to watch me become the woman who owns their world.
