CHAPTER 1:REJECTION
I faced Alpha Thane, my heart filled with excitement. Tonight was the gathering of the full moon, and I wished he would finally recognize me as his mate.
"Thane, I have something to tell you..." I started speaking, but he interrupted me by raising his hand.
"Rosemond, you understand the reason why I 've called you," he stated, his tone icy.
I felt as though my stomach was tying itself into knots. There was an issue.
"Alpha Thane, Please-"
"He snapped, a look of contempt in his eyes." "You are not a member of our pack. Your half-breed heritage makes you impure, not deserving of our pack's legacy.
Sounds of shock reverberated throughout the crowd. It was as though I had been hitted on my stomach.
"Please, what are you trying to let me know ?" I faltered.
Thane's face turned stern. "Rosemond, you are not my mate" "You were never."
Tears welled up in my eyes as the pack's quiet conversations transformed into snickering and murmuring.
"Don't do it, Thane, I beg you!" I pleaded, yet he averted his gaze.
"Go away, Rosemond. "You are no longer allowed to be here."
I staggered backwards, feeling the world swirl around me. Rejection and shame consumed me like a raging fire.
I meandered through the forest engulfed in a fog of weeping and hopelessness. Why would Thane turn me down in this manner? Did the time we spent together have any significance?
I felt like a hollow shell,my heart broken into a million pieces.
Thane's rejected voice echoed so loud in my mind,
"You are not my mate, you are impure, you were never meant to be my mate".
My childhood memories flooded my mind-the mocking, the exclusion, the feeling of being an outcast.Thane's words really cut me deep confirming my deepest fears.
As I was still in the forest, tears couldn't stop streaming down my face and my heart raced like a wild animal.
"I remembered our moonlit walks, the way Thane's eyes sparkled when he smiled at me.
Now those eyes are so cold and full of disdain.
"Why am I so unworthy?
What's wrong with me?
Is it a crime to a
half-breed?"
Will I ever find someone who truly loves me"?..
The painful reminder was even that the scent of Thane's cologne still lingered on my clothes.
"Thane!!!..Why did you do this to me".I thought aloud.
As I stopped in my tracks I heard a rustling in the bushes up ahead. A person appeared, his intense stare meeting mine.
"Are you there, Rosemond?" Elijah spoke softly, his voice was calm. "What's the matter?"
I attempted to talk, but words got stuck in my throat. Elijah's worried look eased, and he moved nearer.
"It's alright, don't worry. "No matter what it is, I'm present."
His kindness broke the barrier containing my feelings. As I poured my heart out, crying openly, I shared with him all about Thane's rejection, the pack's mockery, and my feeling of worthlessness.
Elijah paid close attention, never taking his eyes off me. When I finished,he smiled warmly at me
"Am with you,Rosemond. You are not alone. You're capable, strong and deserve to be loved ".
I was so hopeful for the first time.
The encouraging words of Elijah wrapped me like a warm blanket, calming my emotions. I experienced a bond with him, feeling like he comprehended me in a unique way others could not do.
"I whispered my thanks to Elijah, wiping away tears." "Elijah simply talking to you makes me feel better"
Elijah's smile wavered, and he looked around carefully. We need to leave this place. The pack may not approve of us being together.
I agreed by nodding my head, understanding the danger. Although Thane's refusal hurt, having Elijah around lessened my sense of loneliness.
While strolling through the forest, Elijah inquired softly about my history, my family, and my aspirations. I disclosed to him, revealing tales and worries that I had never shared with anyone before.
The forest was in darkness because the moon sank beneath the horizon. Elijah took me to a private opening in the forest, where a small cabin was tucked away in the middle of the trees.
"I welcome you to my house ," he opened the door with greetings. "This is a safe place for you to stay."
I was very warm and comfortable. The interior of the cabin, with a fire crackling in the fireplace. Elijah gave me a warm blanket to cover myself and a hot cup of tea.
"Drink this," he said . "It will help to soothe your anxiety."
While sipping on the calming tea, I felt comforted by Elijah's presence as he sat next to me.
"Rosemond, I must inquire," he muttered softly. "What are your intentions moving forward?"
I paused, uncertain. Thane's rejection had caused me to feel confused and adrift.
"I have no idea," I confessed. "I feel as though I do not fit in anywhere."
Elijah's facial expression became gentler. You can be wherever you want to be. Rosemond, you are powerful. Do not allow anyone to make you feel differently.
His words sparked a fire inside of me.I felt a glimpse of hope amidst the suffering for the first time.
Looking into Elijah's perceptive eyes, I felt a peaceful sensation come over me. It was the first time I felt completely understood by someone.
"I whispered my thanks to Elijah, my voice shaking." No one has ever made me feel as understood as this.
Elijah's gaze became gentler.. I felt a shiver down my spine when he touched me.
"I am here to support you, Rosemond," he reassured with determination in his voice. "Across all situations, through everything"
I felt immense thankfulness in my heart and I leaned towards his touch. Briefly, we took a breath in unison.
However, as the silence lingered, a slight feeling of unease began to surface. I stepped back, looking into Elijah's eyes.
"Is there something you're keeping from me?" I inquired
Elijah's eyes wavered, and he turned his gaze, his jaw tight.
"He started to speak,"Rosemond, I..." but then stopped immediately.
As I stood up, I felt my heart beating fast, and went straight to the window. The dark night without a moon appeared to reflect my inner being.
"Elijah, can you tell me about my past? What do you know about my past?" I inquired quietly, my voice just barely audible.
Elijah's hesitation was unmistakable. He inquired cautiously, "What are you trying to say?"
"My parents... my heritage.. I have a sense that something is missing" I continued.
Elijah's footsteps reverberated behind me as he softly guided me in the opposite direction.
He told me that I deserved the truth, his gaze fixed on hers. "But are you ready for it?"
I felt a sudden flutter in my chest. What hidden secrets are waiting to be uncovered?
"I whispered 'Yes' while preparing myself."
Elijah's face became serious. Your parents were not as they appeared. Rosemond, you are concealing a dark secret
The ground beneath me shifted, causing me to lose my balance and step back. The words of Elijah resonated in my thoughts:
Rosemond, you possess strength. Don't allow anyone to cause you to feel otherwise.
His revelation scattered my fragile confidence.
Who was I, really?
