Chapter 1.
Avaline Pov.
"What the hell is this slut doing here?" a voice sneered.
"Does she think that throwing herself at the Alpha makes her walk in here like she owns the place?" another chimed in.
"The apple doesn't fall far from the tree, her mother-" Another mocked disdainfully.
I tuned out the daily dose of mockery, my heart heavy with pain.
Today, I didn't have the strength to endure the verbal beating, so I made my way into the hallways of the pack. But the whispers increased, making me dig my nails into my skin nervously. I was used to this treatment and way of life, but today was different. Today was my birthday, and the day Drake and I would consummate our relationship.
I loved him with all my heart, and he did the same, standing by me against all odds. I was already certain he was my mate, right from when I stepped into the packhouse and the scent of sandalwood and pinewood hit me hard - it was his.
As the daughter of an Alpha, I wasn't expected to be an omega. No one took me seriously, except when it came to ridiculing and bullying me. But Drake saw past my rank, and I knew he loved me for who I truly was.
I took a deep breath, trying to shake off the negativity. Today was supposed to be a special day, a day to celebrate my love for Drake and our bond. But the constant mockery and belittling made it hard to keep my head up.
To my father, I was a constant reminder of his betrayal and a mistake he couldn't reverse. I thought he would feel remorseful after how he treated my mom but he did the opposite by sending me away to Alpha Caden's pack.
Blood Moon.
Alpha Caden was one of the most brutal and evil Alpha's of this time but because of his son's love for me he steered clear.
Drake always stood up for me whenever he saw me getting bullied. He loved me despite my weak wolf, and I was more than happy to finally give myself to him after confirming he was my mate. And I knew...
My thoughts were cut short when I tripped over someone's outstretched foot and fell face-first. My cheeks flushed with embarrassment as I pulled myself up slowly, dusting the dirt off my dress. Tears stung my eyes, my anger boiling, and the sickening urge to snap at them rose up, but I said nothing. I just watched them emotionlessly as they continued to ridicule me.
"You shouldn't have gotten up, princess. That's where you belong!" someone sneered.
Someone pushed me from behind, making me stumble forward. I bumped into someone who pushed me back harshly with a hard slap!
"Get your filthy body off me!" Brenda, Drake's sister yelled at me, her face contorted in disgust. "I wonder what Drake sees in a useless wolf like you!"
"She isn't even a full wolf, she's a human. A pathetic human," another chimed in, and they all joined in the mockery.
"You're nothing but a bastard, and I won't cease to remind you of your place," Brenda sneered.
My heart ached that she didn't even acknowledge me as worthy of her brother, but I was used to it by now. That's why I responded calmly, "I mean no trouble. I just want to see Drake. He asked to see me today."
I felt impatient as the faint scent of sandalwood and lavender hit my brain - Drake. He was near.
Anticipation rang through me as my palm tingled, the urge to be near him filling me instantly. Excitement filled me in an instant, washing away every other feeling that threatened to consume me.
"This is going to be fun," Brenda whispered into one of her minions' ears, giggling and stepping out of the way. Everyone followed suit. "He's in his room. Don't say I didn't try to stop you."
I frowned in confusion. Was she just letting me through without throwing fits of curses and beatings? I didn't know when I smiled at her, thanking her for letting me through, and I sprinted off. Wow, Nicole just helped me?! It was unbelievable.
I knew the Alpha's quarters like the back of my hand, so I hastily navigated my way to Drake's room. My heart sped up as I stood in front of his door. "This is it, Ava. You're finally giving the man you love one of the things that seals you both together for life," I whispered happily.
I opened the door and flicked on the light, but in an instant, my happiness was washed away and filled with intense pain from what I beheld in front of me. Drake was in bed with my adopted sister, Nicole. My fucking adopted sister! His broad, muscled back faced me as his waist moved, pounding into her, and her moans almost reached the sky. Her annoying red nails dug into the back of his neck as she looked at him lovingly.
"You're so good, Nicole. You feel so fucking great and moist for me, baby," he whispered, biting her earlobe, and she giggled back.
I took a step back, feeling like I'd been hit by a thousand bricks as my chest constricted into a journey of endless pain. This can't be true, I thought, as tears welled up in my eyes. I finally understood why Nicole let me through - to see for myself the one thing capable of crushing me to pieces. The sight of Drake cheating on me with the one person we both knew hated me.
"Yeah, baby, fuck me. Oh," she kept moaning loudly, as if sensing my presence. I clenched my fists tight in anger.
"Fuck, you're so much better than your useless half-sister! I love you, Nicole," he said, his words breaking my heart. The air in my lungs ceased for a second, and I felt like passing out.
