Chapter 1 THE ART STUDIO

Emma Taylor stepped back from the canvas, her eyes scanning the vibrant colors and bold strokes. Her latest piece, "Echoes in the Night," was coming together beautifully. The studio's natural light danced across the painting, highlighting the textures and emotions she'd poured into it.

As she reached for a fresh brush, the doorbell above the studio entrance jingled, signaling the arrival of a client. Emma's heart skipped a beat; she wasn't expecting anyone. She wiped her hands on a rag and made her way to the front of the studio.

A tall, imposing figure stood in the doorway, his piercing blue eyes scanning the room. Emma's breath caught as their gazes met. It was a face she'd never forgotten, a face that had haunted her dreams for years.

"Asher Blackwood," she whispered, her voice barely audible.

Asher's eyes narrowed, his expression unreadable. "Emma Taylor. It's been a long time."

The air was thick with tension as they stood there, the past hanging between them like a challenge.

Emma felt a shiver run down her spine as Asher's gaze swept over her. She had thought she was prepared for this moment, but now that it was here, she wasn't so sure.

"What are you doing here, Asher?" Emma asked, trying to keep her voice steady.

Asher smiled, a cold, calculated smile. "I'm here to discuss a business proposition with you, Emma."

Emma raised an eyebrow. "A business proposition? What could you possibly want from me?"

Asher's smile grew wider. "Oh, I think you'll find it's very much in your interest to hear me out."

Emma felt a sense of unease growing inside her. She didn't like the sound of this one bit.

"Fine," she said finally. "Let's hear it."

Asher nodded, his eyes glinting with triumph. "Excellent. Let's sit down and discuss the details."

Emma led Asher to a small seating area in the back of the studio, her mind racing with possibilities. What could Asher possibly want from her?

As they sat down, Asher leaned forward, his eyes locked on hers. "I want to buy your art studio, Emma."

Emma's eyes widened in shock. "What? Why?"

Asher smiled again, a cold, calculating smile. "Let's just say I have a vested interest in this studio. And I'm willing to pay top dollar for it."

Emma felt a surge of anger and fear. What was Asher's game? And why was he so determined to buy her studio?

"I'm not interested," she said finally, trying to keep her voice steady.

Asher's smile never wavered. "I think you'll find you are, Emma. Very much so."

And with that, he stood up and walked out of the studio, leaving Emma feeling shaken and confused.

What had just happened? And what did Asher really want from her?

As she sat there, trying to make sense of it all, Emma couldn't shake the feeling that her life was about to change in ways she couldn't even imagine.

Little did she know, Asher's visit was only the beginning of a chain of events that would lead her down a dangerous and unexpected path.

One that would change her life forever.

Emma sat in stunned silence for a few moments, trying to process what had just happened. Asher's sudden appearance and offer to buy her studio had left her reeling. She shook her head, trying to clear the cobwebs.

What was Asher's game? And why was he so determined to buy her studio?

As she sat there, lost in thought, Emma's mind began to wander back to the past. To the night she and Asher had met, and the passionate affair that had followed.

It had been a whirlwind romance, with Asher sweeping her off her feet and showing her a world of luxury and excess.

But it had also been a tumultuous relationship, with Asher's possessiveness and jealousy driving them apart. He would often insult her, making her feel worthless and belittled.

If she tried to complain or stand up for herself, he would become violent, beating her and leaving her bruised and battered.

The memories still haunted her, and Emma knew that she had made the right decision in leaving him.

She had thought she was free from the toxic dynamic that had developed between them, but now Asher was back, and Emma couldn't shake the feeling that he was going to try and drag her back into the nightmare she had escaped.

With a newfound determination, Emma stood up and began to pace back and forth across the studio. She was not going to let Asher Blackwood push her around. She was going to stand up for herself, and for her studio.

As she paced, the door to the studio burst open and a young girl ran in.

"Mommy!" the girl exclaimed, running to Emma and throwing her arms around her waist.

Emma smiled, feeling a surge of love and protectiveness towards her daughter. She knew that she had to keep Lily safe, no matter what.

And that meant keeping Asher Blackwood at bay.

But as she looked down at Lily, Emma couldn't shake the feeling that she was in over her head. That Asher was going to stop at nothing to get what he wanted.

And that she was running out of time.

"Let's get married," Mia declares, her voice trembling despite her defiant gaze into Stefan's guarded brown eyes. She needs this, even if he seems untouchable. Stefan raises a skeptical brow. "And why would I do that?" His voice was low, like a warning, and it made her shiver even though she tried not to show it. "We both have one thing in common," Mia continues, her gaze unwavering. "Shitty fathers. They want to take what's ours and give it to who they think deserves it." A pointed pause hangs in the air. "The only difference between us is that you're an illegitimate child, and I'm not." Stefan studies her, the heiress in her designer armor, the fire in her eyes that matches the burn of his own rage. "That's your solution? A wedding band as a weapon?" He said ignoring the part where she just referred to him as an illegitimate child. "The only weapon they won't see coming." She steps closer, close enough for him to catch the scent of her perfume, gunpowder and jasmine. "Our fathers stole our birthrights. The sole reason they betrayed us. We join forces, create our own empire that'll bring down theirs." A beat of silence. Then, Stefan's mouth curves into something sharp. "One condition," he murmurs, closing the distance. "No divorces. No surrenders. If we're doing this, it's for life" "Deal" Mia said without missing a beat. Her father wants to destroy her life. She wouldn't give him the pleasure, she would destroy her life as she seems fit. ................ Two shattered heirs. One deadly vow. A marriage built on revenge. Mia Meyers was born to rule her father's empire (so she thought), until he named his bastard son heir instead. Stefan Sterling knows the sting of betrayal too. His father discarded him like trash. For seventeen years, I was the pride of the Carlisle family, the perfect daughter destined to inherit an empire. But that life ended the moment a DNA report slid across my father’s mahogany desk. The paper proved I was a stranger. Vanessa, the girl sobbing in the corner, was the real biological daughter they had been searching for. "You need to leave. Tonight. Before the press gets wind of this. Before the stock prices dip." My father’s voice was as cold as flint. My mother wouldn't even look at me, staring out the window at the gardens as if I were already a ghost. Just like that, I was erased. I left behind the Birkin bags and the diamonds, throwing my Centurion Card into a crystal bowl with a clatter that echoed like a gunshot. I walked out into the cold night and climbed into a rusted Ford Taurus driven by a man I had never met—my biological father. I went from a mansion to a fourth-floor walk-up in Queens that smelled of laundry detergent and struggle. My new siblings looked at me with a mix of fear and disgust, waiting for the "fallen princess" to break. They expected me to beg for my old life back, to crumble without the luxury I’d known since birth. But they didn't know the truth. I had spent years training in a shark tank, honing survival skills they couldn't imagine. While Richard Carlisle froze my trust funds to starve me out, my net worth was climbing by millions on an encrypted trading app. They thought they were throwing me to the wolves. They didn't realize they were just letting me off my leash. As the Carlisles prepared to debut Vanessa at the Manhattan Arts Gala, I was already making my move. "Get dressed. We're going to a party."
