"He owns her. She defies him. In a world of shadows, love is just another weapon." Valeria Moretti never asked for this life. The mafia was never supposed to be her world-until her father's betrayal left her with two choices: death or marriage to Dante Salvatore, the cold-blooded heir to the most ruthless crime family in the city. To Dante, love is nothing but a weakness. Valeria is just another pawn in his empire, a symbol of power and dominance. But she refuses to be broken, refuses to become just another possession. And the more she fights him, the more she tempts the devil himself. Trapped in a dangerous game of control, obsession, and deadly secrets, Valeria must decide-will she escape the man who holds her captive, or will she risk everything to survive by his side? Because in Dante's world, nothing is more dangerous than a woman who refuses to be tamed.

The Devil's Claim Chapter 1 A Deal with the Devil

The city never slept, not in Dante Moretti's world. Beneath the dazzling lights of New York's underworld, where fortunes were won and lost in a single breath, the real power didn't lie in boardrooms or courtrooms-it thrived in the shadows, in places like the Valentino Club.

Elena Romano had never stepped foot in this place before. She didn't belong here. Yet here she was, standing at the entrance, heart hammering like a trapped bird in her chest.

The club's opulence was overwhelming-red velvet walls, golden chandeliers that dripped luxury, and the intoxicating scent of cigars and whiskey swirling in the air. Men in sharp suits lounged in the dim lighting, their conversations filled with sharp laughter and veiled threats. These weren't ordinary men. They were criminals, made men, kings of an empire built on blood.

And at the heart of it sat Dante Moretti.

He was exactly as the rumors described-tall, powerful, devastatingly dangerous. Dressed in a tailored black suit that molded to his frame like a second skin, he exuded control. The world bent to his will with a mere glance, and Elena felt that invisible pull the moment his dark eyes settled on her.

He didn't move, didn't speak right away. He merely leaned back in his leather chair, fingers steepled in front of him, watching her. Calculating. Waiting.

"Elena Romano," he finally murmured, his voice smooth like expensive whiskey but carrying an undercurrent of steel. "To what do I owe the pleasure?"

Pleasure. The word tasted bitter in her mouth.

"I need your help." The words felt heavy on her tongue. She hated asking for anything-especially from a man like him.

Dante's lips twitched, but it wasn't quite a smile. "Help always comes with a price, tesoro."

Her pulse spiked at the term-darling. She knew better than to let it affect her. It was a game to him. Everything was.

"I wouldn't be here if I had a choice."

Dante gestured to the seat across from him. "Then sit," he said, voice still lazy but with an undeniable command.

Elena hesitated for only a moment before lowering herself into the plush chair. The leather was cool against her skin, but it did nothing to soothe the fire coursing through her veins.

Dante tapped a finger against his glass, watching her in silence before speaking again. "You're the daughter of Alessandro Romano. Your father and I... have history."

Elena stiffened. Everyone knew of the war between the Morettis and the Romanos-a war that had left bodies in its wake, a war that should have made this meeting impossible.

But she wasn't here for the past. She was here to survive the future.

"My father is dead," she said, keeping her voice steady. "And I have enemies."

Dante swirled the amber liquid in his glass before taking a slow sip. "Everyone has enemies."

Elena's nails dug into her palms. "Not like this."

Dante studied her for a long moment. The silence between them was suffocating. Finally, he exhaled, setting his drink down with a soft clink.

"If I protect you," he murmured, "what do I get in return?"

Elena's throat tightened. She knew this was coming. Dante Moretti never did anything out of kindness-he was a businessman, a king in a kingdom built on debt and favors.

And now, she was about to be in his debt.

She forced herself to meet his gaze. "Whatever it takes."

Dante's lips curved into a slow, wicked smile.

Whatever it takes? She had no idea what she had just agreed to.

Landslide

My bank account showed exactly $42.18, and my student loan notifications were flashing red. I lived in a sweltering Queens apartment with my Aunt Lydia, where the air was thick with the smell of stale frying oil and the constant threat of being homeless. Lydia handed me a grainy photo of a man twice my age and told me she had already "sold" me to him. He was a dry cleaner looking for a wife, and in exchange for my hand, he would pay off her credit cards and my debt. If I didn't show up for the date that night, my boxes would be on the curb by midnight. I arrived at the cafe in a state of panic, my selective mutism making it impossible to even breathe. In the crowded room, I accidentally sat at the wrong table. Instead of the man from the photo, I found myself facing Gerhard Holcomb—the cold, terrifyingly handsome billionaire whose family owned the very museum where I worked. He didn't send me away; instead, he studied my trembling hands and offered me a different deal: a two-year contract marriage, a two-million-dollar payout, and a strict clause forbidding any children. I signed the papers and moved into his Park Avenue penthouse, thinking I was finally safe. But when I went back to the old apartment to retrieve the only memento of my dead parents, Lydia lashed out, leaving me bleeding from a head wound. Gerhard’s retaliation was absolute—he had her arrested and her building foreclosed on within hours, claiming he was simply "protecting his assets." As I recovered in his silent, glass-walled home, I saw a call from a famous socialite flash on his phone, and a cold truth settled in my gut. I wasn't just a wife; I was a placeholder, a silent shield used to fend off the women from his past. I looked at the massive pink diamond on my finger and realized the silence I had lived in my whole life was about to become my most expensive prison. I had traded a life of poverty for a high-stakes game of shadows, and now I had to survive the man who claimed to own me.

I arrived at the hotel with Julian's favorite takeout, ready to surprise my fiancé before our big merger. But the moment I swiped the keycard, the silence of the hallway felt heavy and wrong. Inside, a red-soled stiletto lay on the marble floor-the same one I'd watched my best friend Lila try on at Saks last week. Through the cracked bedroom door, I watched Julian's back arch as Lila looked me straight in the eye and smiled, wrapping her legs tighter around him to mock my heartbreak. I fled to the penthouse to hide, only to find Grafton, Julian's "crippled" brother, waiting in the dark. To my horror, the man who was supposed to be paralyzed stood up from his wheelchair, gripped my chin with cold fingers, and forced me to sign a contract that gave him control of my family's shares. He knew about my mother's secret medical bills and used them to buy my silence, effectively turning my life into a calculated game of corporate chess. The betrayal tasted like acid, and the injustice of it all burned in my throat. My fiancé was a liar, my best friend was a thief, and the man now controlling my fate was a predator who had been faking his disability for years. I couldn't understand how everyone I trusted had turned out to be a monster. I was trapped between a man who cheated on me and a man who wanted to own me, with no way out and no one to turn to. But when Julian came looking for me, Grafton didn't hide; he stood tall, looming over me with a possessive glint in his eyes. "Help me destroy Julian," I rasped, realizing that to survive the Faulkner men, I had to become the most dangerous player of them all.

SHANA GRAY

The sterile white of the operating room blurred, then sharpened, as Skye Sterling felt the cold clawing its way up her body. The heart monitor flatlined, a steady, high-pitched whine announcing her end. Her uterus had been removed, a desperate attempt to stop the bleeding, but the blood wouldn't clot. It just kept flowing, warm and sticky, pooling beneath her. Through heavy eyes, she saw a trembling nurse holding a phone on speaker. "Mr. Kensington," the nurse's voice cracked, "your wife... she's critical." A pause, then a sweet, poisonous giggle. Seraphina Miller. "Liam is in the shower," Seraphina's voice purred. "Stop calling, Skye. It's pathetic. Faking a medical emergency on our anniversary? Even for you, that's low." Then, Liam's bored voice: "If she dies, call the funeral home. I have a meeting in the morning." Click. The line went dead. A second later, so did Skye. The darkness that followed was absolute, suffocating, a black ocean crushing her lungs. She screamed into the void, a silent, agonizing wail of regret for loving a man who saw her as a nuisance, for dying without ever truly living. Until she died, she didn't understand. Why was her life so tragically wasted? Why did her husband, the man she loved, abandon her so cruelly? The injustice of it all burned hotter than the fever in her body. Then, the air rushed back in. Skye gasped, her body convulsing violently on the mattress. Her eyes flew open, wide and terrified, staring blindly into the darkness. Her trembling hand reached for her phone. May 12th. Five years ago. She was back.
