Aurora, a half-wolf who failed to awaken, endured the pack's scorn-only to face an even crueler truth. Her own family cast her out without hesitation, offering her to the enemy pack in place of her gifted cousin, condemning her as the "Blood Pact Hostage." Is she merely an abandoned pawn, or the last hope of her bloodline? Who truly holds the reins of her fate? Then, she met him-Dominic Ashford. Silverpine Pack's Alpha heir. The master of the battlefield. And her fated mate. He recognized her at first glance. Yet she felt nothing. He kept the truth from her, claiming her as nothing more than a hostage. "You're unworthy of being my Luna. But don't even think about running from me." But Aurora was never one to be caged. When she awakens her bloodline and sees everything for what it truly is- Will he still be the one in control? She lifted her gaze, a cold smile playing on her lips. "Dominic, are you sure... I'll still choose you?"

Prisoner of the Blood Pact: Fated Mate Chapter 1 Failed Awakening

I am a half-wolf.

Today is my awakening ceremony-my last chance.

If my wolf refuses to come, what will become of me?

Mom always said that no matter what, I would always be her treasure. But to raise me in the pack, she endured too much.

As for my human father? A ghost no one even remembers.

***

Mom isn't here today.

Is it truly a coincidence... or did she not want to witness my failure?

I downed the awakening potion in one gulp and knelt before the Moon Goddess's altar, silent among the murmuring crowd, awaiting my fate.

Silence.

The torches on the walls flickered as a faint breeze swept through.

Then-

A surge of unfamiliar power rushed through me. In the darkness of my mind, a shadowy crimson wolf took shape-

But it stopped.

An invisible force bound it, dragging it back, tearing it away.

It let out a guttural, enraged snarl, its claws raking violently against the abyss. Its glowing green eyes locked onto mine, burning with fury, frustration, and pain.

No!

"Don't go!" I lunged forward, trying to grasp it, but my fingers closed around nothing but cold emptiness.

In the next heartbeat, it vanished. As if it had never existed.

"Awakening failed."

The elder's voice was cold, final. My last shred of hope shattered

"You really are something. The only Ravencroft in history who couldn't awaken."

Aunt Clare's heels clicked sharply against the stone floor, each step landing like a nail driven into my heart. She looked at me as if I were filth.

"And you still have the nerve to stand here?"

***

BANG-

The doors to the hall were thrown open.

A silver gown shimmered under the candlelight as Vivian strode in.

Her gaze, cold and arrogant, swept past me as if I were invisible. To her, only the strong were worth acknowledging. And I-I was nothing.

She was my cousin, born the same day as me, yet hailed as the prodigy of the Ravencroft family.

The elder offered her the awakening potion. She rejected it with a proud scoff and merely turned before closing her eyes.

And then-

A massive gray wolf tore through the void and emerged before everyone. The air surged outward, and the ladies in the front row instinctively held down their skirts.

It opened its crimson eyes, surveying the hall with quiet arrogance-just like Vivian.

The werewolves around us lowered their heads.

The elders sprang to their feet, their eyes blazing with excitement.

"Stormwolf spirit! A talent awakening?!"

"Vivian, my darling, I knew it-you're the best."

Aunt Clare rushed forward, embracing her daughter, tears streaming down her face.

"Mother." Vivian impatiently pushed her away.

She flexed her sharp claws, admiring them with a satisfied glint in her eyes. A slow, cruel smile curled her lips.

"Of course, I'm the best."

She lazily twirled a finger, her razor-sharp claws tracing a thin, gleaming arc through the air.

Her gaze landed on me, and she tilted her head, feigning innocence laced with venom.

"This wolf-less mutt and her filthy traitor of a mother-how much longer are they going to pollute our pack?"

"Pathetic! A useless freak who can't even awaken-why don't you crawl out of here already?"

Someone in the crowd shouted.

"Get out! Get out!"

The crowd's jeers rose, a sharp blend of excitement and ridicule.

My fingertips trembled slightly, but my gaze remained locked onto them.

"Shut up!"

I snapped my head up, my voice cutting through the frenzy.

I've never taken a single extra coin from this pack, and you've never given me a single meal for free! Don't think I don't know what you forced my mother to sacrifice."

My mother, Evelyn, traded her past achievements for a meager sum, raising me alone on the outskirts of town.

And you expect us to leave? Just because you say so?

I refuse.

"And you," I turned my piercing gaze onto Vivian, "what have you ever done for this pack? If not for my mother, you wouldn't even exist."

Vivian's smirk vanished.

"Heh..." Aunt Clare barely had time to put on her usual fake smile before-

A deafening alarm shattered the air.

"Enemy attack! It's Ashford!"

A bloodied wolf burst into the hall, staggering as he gasped for breath. His voice was hoarse, but his words were like a blade slicing through the tension-

"David needs reinforcements! That lunatic has already torn through our defenses!"

The hall plunged into dead silence. The air grew heavy. Muscles tensed.

Dominic Ashford.

The warlord of Silverpine Pack. The Silverflame Wolf. A name that turned battlefields into graveyards.

Since he took command, we had never won a single battle against them.

Where he walked, blood followed.

And now, his claws had ripped through our borders.

Why?

The elder's face darkened. "What does he want?"

The messenger wolf, trembling, wiped the sweat from his forehead. He swallowed hard before speaking-

"He said we broke the agreement. He's demanding that we confirm the blood pact hostage. Now."

A ripple of unease swept through the hall. Whispers, shifting glances-everyone was just as lost as I was.

Then, Magnus looked at me.

Just for a moment. Just long enough for my stomach to tighten. Then, with a quiet sigh, he turned to Vivian.

"We proceed with the original arrangement," he said. "The Alpha and the pack will remember your family's contribution."

For the first time, Aunt Clar didn't have a ready response.

Instead, she turned-just in time to see Vivian ripping the hem of her gown.

She grabbed her daughter's wrist. "What do you think you're doing?"

Vivian sneered, yanking her hand away. "What do you think? I have a wolf now! I'll put that bastard Ashford in his place and show him what the Ravencroft family is made of!"

She's insane.

Did she really think that a newly awakened wolf like her could take on Ashford-the warlord who has crushed every pack in the Eastern Territories?

Where the hell did she get this kind of confidence?

But... blood pact hostage?

What did that mean?

And why did Magnus just look at me like that?

Unexpectedly, the elder nodded.

"Good. That's the kind of spirit worthy of a Ravencroft."

He scanned the room and ordered, "All warriors, reinforce the frontlines immediately!"

Aunt Clare's lips pressed into a thin line. She had no choice but to comply.

Then, suddenly-

Her eyes flickered. A calculated, chilling glint flashed across them as she turned to me.

"You."

She lifted her chin, her gaze pressing down like a heavy weight.

"You're going with Vivian."

I frowned, a hint of caution rising within me.

What?

What was she planning? Aunt Clare had never let me stand beside the pack-so why now?

Vivian screeched. "What?! You're making me take a half-breed? That's disgusting!"

Aunt Clare just smiled. Sweet. Sickly. Poisonous.

"Even half-breeds have their uses... some more than others."

She tilted her head slightly, her gaze dark and unreadable.

"Did you really think you could stay here without proving your worth? Foolish."

I arrived at the hotel with Julian's favorite takeout, ready to surprise my fiancé before our big merger. But the moment I swiped the keycard, the silence of the hallway felt heavy and wrong. Inside, a red-soled stiletto lay on the marble floor-the same one I'd watched my best friend Lila try on at Saks last week. Through the cracked bedroom door, I watched Julian's back arch as Lila looked me straight in the eye and smiled, wrapping her legs tighter around him to mock my heartbreak. I fled to the penthouse to hide, only to find Grafton, Julian's "crippled" brother, waiting in the dark. To my horror, the man who was supposed to be paralyzed stood up from his wheelchair, gripped my chin with cold fingers, and forced me to sign a contract that gave him control of my family's shares. He knew about my mother's secret medical bills and used them to buy my silence, effectively turning my life into a calculated game of corporate chess. The betrayal tasted like acid, and the injustice of it all burned in my throat. My fiancé was a liar, my best friend was a thief, and the man now controlling my fate was a predator who had been faking his disability for years. I couldn't understand how everyone I trusted had turned out to be a monster. I was trapped between a man who cheated on me and a man who wanted to own me, with no way out and no one to turn to. But when Julian came looking for me, Grafton didn't hide; he stood tall, looming over me with a possessive glint in his eyes. "Help me destroy Julian," I rasped, realizing that to survive the Faulkner men, I had to become the most dangerous player of them all.

The sterile white of the operating room blurred, then sharpened, as Skye Sterling felt the cold clawing its way up her body. The heart monitor flatlined, a steady, high-pitched whine announcing her end. Her uterus had been removed, a desperate attempt to stop the bleeding, but the blood wouldn't clot. It just kept flowing, warm and sticky, pooling beneath her. Through heavy eyes, she saw a trembling nurse holding a phone on speaker. "Mr. Kensington," the nurse's voice cracked, "your wife... she's critical." A pause, then a sweet, poisonous giggle. Seraphina Miller. "Liam is in the shower," Seraphina's voice purred. "Stop calling, Skye. It's pathetic. Faking a medical emergency on our anniversary? Even for you, that's low." Then, Liam's bored voice: "If she dies, call the funeral home. I have a meeting in the morning." Click. The line went dead. A second later, so did Skye. The darkness that followed was absolute, suffocating, a black ocean crushing her lungs. She screamed into the void, a silent, agonizing wail of regret for loving a man who saw her as a nuisance, for dying without ever truly living. Until she died, she didn't understand. Why was her life so tragically wasted? Why did her husband, the man she loved, abandon her so cruelly? The injustice of it all burned hotter than the fever in her body. Then, the air rushed back in. Skye gasped, her body convulsing violently on the mattress. Her eyes flew open, wide and terrified, staring blindly into the darkness. Her trembling hand reached for her phone. May 12th. Five years ago. She was back.

I had just survived a private jet crash, my body a map of violet bruises and my lungs still burning from the smoke. I woke up in a sterile hospital room, gasping for my husband's name, only to realize I was completely alone. While I was bleeding in a ditch, my husband, Adam, was on the news smiling at a ribbon-cutting ceremony. When I tracked him down at the hospital's VIP wing, I didn't find a grieving husband. I found him tenderly cradling his ex-girlfriend, Casie, in his arms, his face lit with a protective warmth he had never shown me as he carried her into the maternity ward. The betrayal went deeper than I could have imagined. Adam admitted the affair started on our third anniversary-the night he claimed he was stuck in London for a merger. Back at the manor, his mother had already filled our planned nursery with pink boutique bags for Casie's "little princess." When I demanded a divorce, Adam didn't flinch. He sneered that I was "gutter trash" from a foster home and that I'd be begging on the streets within a week. To trap me, he froze my bank accounts, cancelled my flight, and even called the police to report me for "theft" of company property. I realized then that I wasn't his partner; I was a charity case he had plucked from obscurity to manage his life. To the Hortons, I was just a servant who happened to sleep in the master bedroom, a "resilient" woman meant to endure his abuse in silence while the whole world laughed at the joke that was my marriage. Adam thought stripping me of his money would make me crawl back to him. He was wrong. I walked into his executive suite during his biggest deal of the year and poured a mug of sludge over his original ten-million-dollar contracts. Then, right in front of his board and his mistress, I stripped off every designer thread he had ever paid for until I was standing in nothing but my own silk camisole. "You can keep the clothes, Adam. They're as hollow as you are." I grabbed my passport, turned my back on his billions, and walked out of that glass tower barefoot, bleeding, and finally free.
