THE MAZE OF DECEPTION Chapter 1 The streets of Ashwood

Aria Flynn crouched in the narrow alleyway, her eyes scanning the crowded market square. The smell of freshly baked bread, roasting meats, and exotic spices wafted through the air, making her stomach growl with hunger. She clutched a small pouch of stolen coins, her heart racing with excitement.

As she watched, a group of city guardsmen marched through the square, their eyes scanning the crowd for any signs of trouble. Aria's grip on the pouch tightened, her mind racing with the possibilities. She had to be careful; the guards were always on the lookout for thieves and troublemakers.

Just as she was starting to relax, a gruff voice called out from behind.

"Hey, kid! You're a sight for sore eyes!"

Aria spun around, her hand instinctively reaching for the dagger sheathed at her belt. A burly man with a thick beard and a menacing scar above his left eyebrow grinned at her.

"Mack!" Aria relaxed, tucking the pouch into her pocket. "What brings you to this fine establishment?"

Mack chuckled, his eyes glinting with amusement. "Just looking for a little... 'acquisition' work. You know how it is."

Aria nodded, her gaze darting around the market square. She knew that Mack was looking for valuable items to steal, and she had just the thing.

"I've got something that might interest you," she said, her voice low. "Meet me at the old windmill on the outskirts tonight."

Mack's grin widened. "You're a real entrepreneur, kid. I'll be there."

As Mack lumbered off, Aria watched him go, a mixture of emotions swirling in her chest. She felt a pang of guilt for stealing, but it was a necessary evil in her line of work. She had to survive, and if that meant taking from others, then so be it.

Aria's thoughts were interrupted by a faint hum, like the quiet buzzing of a harp string. She felt a shiver run down her spine as she recognized the sensation – someone was using magic nearby.

Her eyes scanned the crowd, searching for the source of the magic. That's when she saw him – a tall, dark-haired figure with piercing blue eyes that seemed to bore into her very soul.

Aria's heart skipped a beat as their gazes met. For a moment, time seemed to freeze, and all she could feel was the thrum of magic in the air. Then, the stranger vanished into the crowd, leaving Aria feeling bewildered and more than a little intrigued.

As she stood there, trying to make sense of what had just happened, Aria felt a presence behind her. She spun around, her hand on the hilt of her dagger, ready to defend herself.

But it was just a young girl, no more than ten years old, with a look of curiosity on her face.

"Are you okay?" the girl asked, her voice trembling. "You looked like you saw a ghost."

Aria smiled, trying to reassure the girl. "I'm fine," she said. "Just a little... distracted."

The girl nodded, her eyes sparkling with understanding. "I know how that feels," she said. "Sometimes I get distracted too."

Aria chuckled, feeling a pang of nostalgia. She remembered when she was that age, full of wonder and curiosity.

As she watched the girl walk away, Aria felt a sense of longing. She wished she could go back to those carefree days, before the world had hardened her.

But life didn't work that way. Aria had to keep moving forward, no matter how difficult things got.

With a sigh, she tucked the pouch of coins into her pocket and set off into the crowd, ready to face whatever challenges lay ahead.

HONEY MULLINS

Six years ago, I was a naive girl sold by my father to the powerful Sanders estate, only to be tossed onto the streets after a brutal assault they labeled "marital infidelity." I fled the country pregnant and broken, hiding from the shadow of a husband I had never even met. Now, I've returned to New York with my triplets to sign the final divorce papers and disappear forever. But Archibald Sanders-the man I was told was a crippled recluse-intercepted us with the cold precision of a predator. He didn't see the woman his family destroyed; he saw a gold-digger who had shamed his name. His security team hunted us to a grimy motel, using tactical force to snatch my children away and drag me to his glass-walled empire. In his office, he loomed over me, demanding a DNA test and threatening to throw me in prison while my babies were lost to the foster system. He was convinced I'd cheated, yet he stared at my sons with a haunting confusion, unable to ignore the stormy blue eyes that were a perfect mirror of his own. I stood there, paralyzed by his scent-the sharp tang of rain and expensive leather that triggered the icy dread of my worst nightmares. How could he accuse me of betrayal when he felt exactly like the monster who had shattered my life in that dark hotel room? "I'll sign anything," I sobbed, "just give me my kids." But the game changed when my five-year-old son hacked the tower's security, holding the skyscraper hostage to save me. In the chaos, a fragile, silent boy-Archibald's secret son-wandered into the room and reached for me as if I were his missing soul. Archibald's face turned to stone as he tore up the agreement and locked the doors. "Until I find out why my son is looking at you like that," he growled, "you aren't going anywhere."

Landslide

My bank account showed exactly $42.18, and my student loan notifications were flashing red. I lived in a sweltering Queens apartment with my Aunt Lydia, where the air was thick with the smell of stale frying oil and the constant threat of being homeless. Lydia handed me a grainy photo of a man twice my age and told me she had already "sold" me to him. He was a dry cleaner looking for a wife, and in exchange for my hand, he would pay off her credit cards and my debt. If I didn't show up for the date that night, my boxes would be on the curb by midnight. I arrived at the cafe in a state of panic, my selective mutism making it impossible to even breathe. In the crowded room, I accidentally sat at the wrong table. Instead of the man from the photo, I found myself facing Gerhard Holcomb—the cold, terrifyingly handsome billionaire whose family owned the very museum where I worked. He didn't send me away; instead, he studied my trembling hands and offered me a different deal: a two-year contract marriage, a two-million-dollar payout, and a strict clause forbidding any children. I signed the papers and moved into his Park Avenue penthouse, thinking I was finally safe. But when I went back to the old apartment to retrieve the only memento of my dead parents, Lydia lashed out, leaving me bleeding from a head wound. Gerhard’s retaliation was absolute—he had her arrested and her building foreclosed on within hours, claiming he was simply "protecting his assets." As I recovered in his silent, glass-walled home, I saw a call from a famous socialite flash on his phone, and a cold truth settled in my gut. I wasn't just a wife; I was a placeholder, a silent shield used to fend off the women from his past. I looked at the massive pink diamond on my finger and realized the silence I had lived in my whole life was about to become my most expensive prison. I had traded a life of poverty for a high-stakes game of shadows, and now I had to survive the man who claimed to own me.

The Beast's Bride

Kaosi-ND

She was small, too small and too slender too. Her hair, blood red, formed a halo around her body, softly grazing her back. He had noticed specks of dirt on her body but they failed to hide the loveliness and tenderness of her skin, which he could bet would shine once it was cleaned. To put it simply, she was lovely, far more beautiful than any of the other brides, despite the injury on her forehead, which had reduced in size significantly, but still angered him. He couldn't get a glimpse of her eyes because her head was turned from his but its image was already stuck to his head, a soft violet, which he assumed would gleam if she smiled. She wasn't smiling though, hadn't smiled since he met her and he had assumed that she hardly ever did. A similarity they probably both shared. He,again, remembered the swelling on her forehead which got his blood heated. What made the people of this town hate her so vehemently? What could the lovely, innocent looking girl have probably done to have deserved being thrust upon him? ........................................ 18 year old Leila has had a difficult life. Having lost her parents at the young age of 10, she has had to battle to survive, weaving her way through predators, rapists and murderers along the way. However, nothing could have possibly prepared her for the beast of a man whom she was suddenly bound to as wife... ....................................... 31 year old Voloukh, leader of men torn from their homes at a young age to act as slave warriors for the Kingdom of Ultar, has been brutally carved to be a killing machine. His features are enough to bestow fear upon the hearts of anyone who dare to gaze upon him. The Beast of the Woods, as he is referred to is hence, shocked when a girl with the most beautiful violet eyes he has ever seen, which however, gaze upon him with trepidation and horror, is given to him to wed...
