Kidnapped on the eve of her engagement to a politician she didn't love, Valeria Moretti, daughter of Italy's most ruthless crime patriarch, wakes up in a fortified estate deep in the Carpathians, claimed by a stranger with bloodstained hands and a debt to settle. Damien Volkov, the Black Wolf of the Romanian underworld, doesn't believe in mercy, only balance. And the price for her father's betrayal is her. But Valeria has no pawns. She's been trained in silence, survival, and secrets. Yet nothing prepares her for the savage elegance of her captor... or the growing hunger that threatens to consume them both. As alliances collapse and a brutal vendetta unravels decades of blood-sworn loyalty, Valeria and Damien must decide what matters more: vengeance... or the love born from it. In a world where power is survival and love is a weapon, one wrong move could start a war that leaves nothing standing.

The Wolf's Bride Chapter 1 GLASS AND GOLD

The music was too sweet, an expensive symphony designed to mask the scent of ambition. Crystal sparkled on every surface of the ballroom, and the air shimmered with perfume, politics, and the scent of burning futures.

My smile was a weapon, honed by obedience, perfected by silence. And tonight, it was slicing deep into my own skin.

I stood beneath the chandelier, an empire of diamonds overhead, at my own engagement party, dressed in white gold, corseted breathless, my hands trembling beneath velvet gloves. Every man in the room had blood beneath his fingernails, and every woman knew better than to ask whose.

At my side, Viktor Sokolov, heir to a pharmaceutical fortune and a rumored arms pipeline, held my hand like I was merchandise he intended to mark up and resell. He hadn't looked at me once.

"You look beautiful," he said, voice absent of warmth, scanning the crowd. "Like property done right."

My fingers froze inside his. I didn't speak. There was nothing to say. I'd practiced this moment: the tilt of my chin, the practiced blink, the careful curve of a smile meant to say I was honored, not sold.

But watching my father across the room, laughing with men who'd once tried to kill him, now clinking flutes like brothers, I couldn't find the breath to fake gratitude.

"I need air," I murmured, my voice a thread of silk.

Viktor didn't stop me. He released my hand like he was setting down an empty glass.

I walked alone across the ballroom floor, the applause behind me like false thunder. Each step echoed too loud. Too sharp. My heels cracked against the marble as though firing into silence. Gold-trimmed columns rose around me like prison bars.

Then I heard it.

Not meant for me. A voice half-shrouded by distance, arrogance, and power.

"the cost of the pact was her. Don't pretend you didn't know that when we signed."

My father's voice. I knew it the way a child knows thunder before the storm hits.

Another voice followed, deeper, unfamiliar. "She's your daughter."

"She's leverage," my father snapped.

I stopped moving. The air shifted. The hall was empty but for the mirror beside me. My reflection stared back, green eyes too sharp, lips too red, betrayal unfurling like frostbite down my spine.

"Damien Volkov will take what's his."

I didn't turn. Didn't blink. I walked away, the sound of that name detonating in my chest like a buried mine.

Outside, the air hit me like water, sharp and cold. I gasped it in. The wind tugged at my hair, kissed my bare shoulders, and mocked the diamonds weighing down my ears.

Then I heard it.

The soft hum of an engine dying.

I turned just in time to see a black van roll to a silent stop at the edge of the drive.

Too smooth. Too slow.

My body knew before my mind caught up.

I ran.

The garden swallowed me whole, hedges tall, manicured like blades, roses blooming in sacrificial red. The party lights couldn't follow me here. Only the moonlight danced on stone pathways as I stumbled deeper into the cold night.

Damien Volkov.

The Black Wolf of the Carpathians. Whispers of him drifted through underworld corridors like ghosts, efficient, ruthless, untraceable. A man who didn't trade in money or information.

He traded in loyalty and fear. And now, apparently, me.

I reached the gate.

A rustle behind the hedge.

"Who's there?"

No answer.

My heart twisted into my throat. I took one step back, then another.

The crunch of gravel beneath a boot.

Then movement. Quick. A shadow lunging. I turned,

And felt the pierce of a needle in my neck.

I opened my mouth, but the scream never came.

Hands caught me as I fell. Arms too strong, grip too calm.

"Don't fight it," a voice whispered.

My fingers clawed for air, my vision dissolving.

The last thing I saw was a hedge of roses, thorns like knives, and the first star bleeding through the dark.

Then silence.

Darkness.

And one word chasing me into it:

"Delivered."

Somewhere beyond the dark, a door slammed.

I surfaced slowly, as if from underwater. My limbs were sandbags, my eyelids nailed shut. Every sound reached me through cotton.

Leather.

The sharp stench of antiseptic.

I wasn't moving.

The car was.

Men's voices filtered through the fog. Low. Casual.

"She's smaller than expected."

"She'll break fast."

"Not this one. Look at her bloodline."

I tried to move. Nothing responded.

Terror scraped against the inside of my chest. My mind screamed, but my body refused to follow.

"She's his now. The price is paid."

A hand touched my cheek. Cold. Gloved.

I flinched. Somewhere deep in my body, instinct still fought.

A voice chuckled near my ear. "Sweet dreams, principessa."

Another sting, this time in my arm. Heat. Then ice. Then nothing.

I didn't scream.

I couldn't.

My mind sank again.

But it didn't drown.

It waited.

The sound of stone breathing.

That was the first thing I felt when I woke.

Stone doesn't breathe. But somehow, the walls around me exhaled.

I sat up, too fast. The world spun.

Grey. Steel. Shadows.

A room with no windows. No door handle. Just stone, steel, and the faint smell of bleach and chains.

My throat was raw. My dress was gone, replaced with soft black cotton that clung to my skin like smoke.

I stood, swaying.

A camera sat in the top corner of the room, red light blinking once every few seconds.

They were watching.

And whoever "they" were, I wasn't the daughter of a king anymore.

I was the collateral.

I pressed my palm against the wall. It was cool. Unyielding.

Like the hand that had signed me away.

A hiss of air.

A panel slid open.

And a voice, low, smooth, lethal, poured into the room like oil.

"Welcome home, Valeria."

I didn't answer.

But inside me, something old cracked open.

Not fear.

Not sorrow.

Something colder.

And hungrier.

The kind of silence that waits for blood.

And always gets it.

I stood at my mother's open grave in the freezing rain, my heels sinking into the mud. The space beside me was empty. My husband, Hilliard Holloway, had promised to cherish me in bad times, but apparently, burying my mother didn't fit into his busy schedule. While the priest's voice droned on, a news alert lit up my phone. It was a livestream of the Metropolitan Charity Gala. There was Hilliard, looking impeccable in a custom tuxedo, with his ex-girlfriend Charla English draped over his arm. The headline read: "Holloway & English: A Power Couple Reunited?" When he finally returned to our penthouse at 2 AM, he didn't come alone-he brought Charla with him. He claimed she'd had a "medical emergency" at the gala and couldn't be left alone. I found a Tiffany diamond necklace on our coffee table meant for her birthday, and a smudge of her signature red lipstick on his collar. When I confronted him, he simply told me to stop being "hysterical" and "acting like a child." He had no idea I was seven months pregnant with his child. He thought so little of my grief that he didn't even bother to craft a convincing lie, laughing with his mistress in our home while I sat in the dark with a shattered heart and a secret life growing inside me. "He doesn't deserve us," I whispered to the darkness. I didn't scream or beg. I simply left a folder on his desk containing signed divorce papers and a forged medical report for a terminated pregnancy. I disappeared into the night, letting him believe he had successfully killed his own legacy through his neglect. Five years later, Hilliard walked into "The Vault," the city's most exclusive underground auction, looking for a broker to manage his estate. He didn't recognize me behind my Venetian mask, but he couldn't ignore the neon pink graffiti on his armored Maybach that read "DEADBEAT." He had no clue that the three brilliant triplets currently hacking his security system were the very children he thought had been erased years ago. This time, I wasn't just a wife in the way; I was the one holding all the cards.

The Silent Bride's Billion Dollar Contract

My bank account showed exactly $42.18, and my student loan notifications were flashing red. I lived in a sweltering Queens apartment with my Aunt Lydia, where the air was thick with the smell of stale frying oil and the constant threat of being homeless. Lydia handed me a grainy photo of a man twice my age and told me she had already "sold" me to him. He was a dry cleaner looking for a wife, and in exchange for my hand, he would pay off her credit cards and my debt. If I didn't show up for the date that night, my boxes would be on the curb by midnight. I arrived at the cafe in a state of panic, my selective mutism making it impossible to even breathe. In the crowded room, I accidentally sat at the wrong table. Instead of the man from the photo, I found myself facing Gerhard Holcomb—the cold, terrifyingly handsome billionaire whose family owned the very museum where I worked. He didn't send me away; instead, he studied my trembling hands and offered me a different deal: a two-year contract marriage, a two-million-dollar payout, and a strict clause forbidding any children. I signed the papers and moved into his Park Avenue penthouse, thinking I was finally safe. But when I went back to the old apartment to retrieve the only memento of my dead parents, Lydia lashed out, leaving me bleeding from a head wound. Gerhard’s retaliation was absolute—he had her arrested and her building foreclosed on within hours, claiming he was simply "protecting his assets." As I recovered in his silent, glass-walled home, I saw a call from a famous socialite flash on his phone, and a cold truth settled in my gut. I wasn't just a wife; I was a placeholder, a silent shield used to fend off the women from his past. I looked at the massive pink diamond on my finger and realized the silence I had lived in my whole life was about to become my most expensive prison. I had traded a life of poverty for a high-stakes game of shadows, and now I had to survive the man who claimed to own me.

I was once the princess of the Upper East Side, but now I’m just "debt wrapped in pretty skin." To keep my father alive in a federal penitentiary, I signed a contract I didn't fully understand. I thought it was about restoring my family's name, but producer Barnett Orr treated it like a bill of sale for my soul. Inside his limousine, the air smelled like gasoline and fear. Barnett didn't want a star; he wanted a victim. He bruised my jaw and ripped my vintage silk gown to shreds, laughing because he knew I couldn't fight back without signing my father's death warrant. "Don't forget who owns you, Felicity," he whispered. When he dragged me into Dewitt Knight’s penthouse party, I was a walking disaster. I huddled in Barnett’s oversized jacket, my lip bleeding and my spirit shattered. The elite crowd didn't see a victim; they saw a fallen girl selling herself for a role. A former rival poured red wine over me, and the room erupted in cruel laughter while Barnett told everyone he was just "testing my commitment." I looked up at the balcony, locking eyes with Dewitt Knight. He was a god in a bespoke suit, looking down at me with cold, lethal disgust. He didn't see the bruises or the desperation. He only saw a transaction he found beneath him. "So the rumors are true," he said, his voice cutting through the music. "The Aguilars really will do anything for money now. Even this." I was trapped between a monster who wanted to break me and a man who thought I was trash. No one cared that my father's life depended on my silence. When Barnett cornered me in a guest room later that night, his belt jingling like a death knell, I realized no one was coming to save a girl like me. I fought back with a crystal vase, shattering it against his shoulder, but I was drowning in my own terror. Just as Barnett lunged for my throat, the door was kicked off its hinges. Dewitt stood there, finally seeing the blood on the carpet and the map of purple bruises on my bare back. He chased the monster away, but I didn't feel safe. I locked the guest room door, wedged a chair under the handle, and slept with a silver letter opener pressed against my skin. When I crept into the kitchen at midnight and found him waiting in the shadows, I aimed the blade at his heart. "In this house, no one hurts you," he promised, his voice a low velvet rumble. But in a world where I had already been sold once, I knew that even protection came with a price I couldn't afford to pay.

Betrayed Bride: Claimed By The Brother

I arrived at the hotel with Julian's favorite takeout, ready to surprise my fiancé before our big merger. But the moment I swiped the keycard, the silence of the hallway felt heavy and wrong. Inside, a red-soled stiletto lay on the marble floor-the same one I'd watched my best friend Lila try on at Saks last week. Through the cracked bedroom door, I watched Julian's back arch as Lila looked me straight in the eye and smiled, wrapping her legs tighter around him to mock my heartbreak. I fled to the penthouse to hide, only to find Grafton, Julian's "crippled" brother, waiting in the dark. To my horror, the man who was supposed to be paralyzed stood up from his wheelchair, gripped my chin with cold fingers, and forced me to sign a contract that gave him control of my family's shares. He knew about my mother's secret medical bills and used them to buy my silence, effectively turning my life into a calculated game of corporate chess. The betrayal tasted like acid, and the injustice of it all burned in my throat. My fiancé was a liar, my best friend was a thief, and the man now controlling my fate was a predator who had been faking his disability for years. I couldn't understand how everyone I trusted had turned out to be a monster. I was trapped between a man who cheated on me and a man who wanted to own me, with no way out and no one to turn to. But when Julian came looking for me, Grafton didn't hide; he stood tall, looming over me with a possessive glint in his eyes. "Help me destroy Julian," I rasped, realizing that to survive the Faulkner men, I had to become the most dangerous player of them all.
