"I've never wanted to find my mate-that's just not the life I choose to live. I would only be a burden to them and those around me, so staying alone is the best option. But how much longer can I keep running? For six years, Iris has lived as a rogue, fleeing from the home she once knew. She runs in fear, constantly pursued by the shadows of her past. Haunted by a darkness she doesn't fully understand, she struggles to uncover why she is being hunted. Can she escape the darkness surrounding her-and the one buried deep within?"

The Rogue Luna's Curse Chapter 1 Caught in the moonlight

I ran in a circle to make sure they wouldn't follow my scent. Once I was certain they wouldn't be able to track me down, I shifted into my human form and quickly got dressed. Grabbing my backpack, I climbed up a tree.

Soon, I saw a group of wolves running after me, tracking my scent.

"How long are you going to keep running?"

I rolled my eyes. My wolf spirit and I had had this argument so many times that it was starting to get old. Ignoring her, I rested against the tree, watching as the wolves ran around, trying to follow my trail.

I was a rogue, and packs considered rogues a threat, so they hunted them down. I had been a rogue for years, ever since I ran away from home after my parents' deaths. All I ever knew was how to take care of myself-forced to rely on my own instincts and independence. Now, I was used to this life, constantly moving. The idea of pack life bored me, and I had no interest in it.

It had taken me a long time to convince my wolf of this. One thing we always disagreed on was a mate.

I hated the idea that one day I would find my mate, that I would no longer be independent. I despised the thought of needing someone else to survive. The moment a wolf finds their mate, their entire mindset shifts-they become so dependent on that person, it was almost sickening. My wolf, on the other hand, couldn't wait to find her mate.

"Once we find our mate, your carefree, independent days are over."

I huffed loudly at her words. Apparently, I made too much noise because the wolf below me snapped his head up, his sharp eyes locking onto me. Then, he howled, calling his pack.

I remained frozen in the tree, unsure of what to do as more wolves gathered beneath me. They growled, their eyes filled with predatory intent. Then, they started kicking the tree with their hind legs, trying to shake me down.

I did the only thing I could think of-I jumped.

As I leaped from the tree, I shifted midair into my white wolf, shredding my clothes in the process. I landed roughly on the ground, snatched my backpack in my mouth, and bolted as fast as I could.

I looked back-wolves were right on my tail.

I turned my head forward just in time to slam into something hard. My body jolted backward from the impact. Dazed, I lifted my gaze and locked eyes with a massive midnight-black wolf standing in my path, growling.

My wolf whispered in awe. Alpha.

She wanted to bow, but I refused.

More wolves circled around me, blocking every escape route. The black wolf moved behind a tree and shifted. When he stepped back into the clearing, my breath hitched.

He was gorgeous.

Dressed in black jeans and a tight white shirt that barely concealed his muscular chest, he had tanned olive skin that glowed under the sunlight. His dark brown hair was messy but effortlessly attractive, as if he hadn't even tried to style it. His features were sharp and defined, his nose slightly crooked at the bridge-evidence of a past break. His eyes, smaller yet piercing, studied me intently.

The only thing I refused to look at was his gaze.

"Shift, rogue, and explain why you're traveling so close to our pack." His Alpha voice was commanding, leaving no room for argument.

I saw no point in resisting-there was no escape. Wolves blocked every possible route. So, I moved behind a tree and shifted, pulling clothes from my bag and dressing quickly.

When I stepped back into view, I kept my eyes lowered, avoiding his gaze. I had learned long ago never to look a male wolf in the eyes. The eyes were windows to the soul. The moment you locked eyes with the right-or, in my case, the wrong-person, you just knew. You knew they were your other half.

And I refused to be bound by such a thing.

"What is your name, and why are you traveling so close to my territory?" His deep voice carried authority, his towering presence making him even more intimidating.

I chose not to answer.

"Look at me when I'm talking to you!" he snapped.

"Just look at him, Iris," my wolf begged, desperation lacing her voice. It was as if she knew something I didn't.

Before I could react, he grabbed my chin and yanked my head up, forcing me to meet his gaze.

The moment our eyes locked, I felt it.

A shockwave of electricity surged through me. My breath hitched, my entire body paralyzed by the overwhelming emotions crashing into me. My soul recognized his. He was mine, and I was his. Our destinies intertwined, bound by fate itself.

I wanted to fight it, to reject the connection. But I couldn't look away from those deep baby-blue eyes.

"Mine." He growled in satisfaction.

I had just survived a private jet crash, my body a map of violet bruises and my lungs still burning from the smoke. I woke up in a sterile hospital room, gasping for my husband's name, only to realize I was completely alone. While I was bleeding in a ditch, my husband, Adam, was on the news smiling at a ribbon-cutting ceremony. When I tracked him down at the hospital's VIP wing, I didn't find a grieving husband. I found him tenderly cradling his ex-girlfriend, Casie, in his arms, his face lit with a protective warmth he had never shown me as he carried her into the maternity ward. The betrayal went deeper than I could have imagined. Adam admitted the affair started on our third anniversary-the night he claimed he was stuck in London for a merger. Back at the manor, his mother had already filled our planned nursery with pink boutique bags for Casie's "little princess." When I demanded a divorce, Adam didn't flinch. He sneered that I was "gutter trash" from a foster home and that I'd be begging on the streets within a week. To trap me, he froze my bank accounts, cancelled my flight, and even called the police to report me for "theft" of company property. I realized then that I wasn't his partner; I was a charity case he had plucked from obscurity to manage his life. To the Hortons, I was just a servant who happened to sleep in the master bedroom, a "resilient" woman meant to endure his abuse in silence while the whole world laughed at the joke that was my marriage. Adam thought stripping me of his money would make me crawl back to him. He was wrong. I walked into his executive suite during his biggest deal of the year and poured a mug of sludge over his original ten-million-dollar contracts. Then, right in front of his board and his mistress, I stripped off every designer thread he had ever paid for until I was standing in nothing but my own silk camisole. "You can keep the clothes, Adam. They're as hollow as you are." I grabbed my passport, turned my back on his billions, and walked out of that glass tower barefoot, bleeding, and finally free.

The rain in Detroit was slick with grime when my family finally came to fetch me. They didn't want a reunion; they wanted a sacrificial lamb to marry into the Kaufman empire to save their failing business. I thought I was just being sold off, but the limo ride ended under a dark overpass where six hired thugs were waiting with chains. My own sister had ordered them to "break my spirit" so I’d be a shaking, pathetic mess by the time I reached the altar. They called me "Detroit trash" and sprayed air freshener when I sat on their leather seats. My stepmother wanted a video of me begging for my life, and my father was ready to trade me like a used car to a man everyone called a "vegetable." They expected a submissive country girl, unaware that I was a high-level "cleaner" who could snap a radius bone before they could even scream. When I finally reached the Kaufman estate, I found my fiancé, Barron, slumped in a wheelchair, drooling and silent. But as soon as the doors closed, the "invalid" grabbed my wrist with a grip of iron and whispered a command that changed everything. I didn't understand why my own blood was so desperate to see me destroyed. What had I ever done to deserve a hit squad and a forced marriage to a man they thought was a corpse? But Barron isn't a vegetable, and I'm not a victim. We just touched down at the Moon family gala in a matte-black helicopter, and as the doors slide open, the "broken" bride is about to show them exactly what happens when you throw away the wrong daughter. "If we're going to crash a party," Barron whispered, his eyes burning with lethal clarity, "we should make an entrance."
