Selene was born out of a forgotten deal with the devil. The fourth child promised to Lucifer by desperate parents-and the only one who survived the tragic accident meant to claim her. Now an adult, she's dragged into a lavish mansion where shadows whisper, secrets burn, and Lucifer, the devil himself, insists she belongs to him. He is cold, commanding, seductive-and cursed with obsession. Selene wants answers, but every truth leads to another lie: demons calling her queen, a mysterious pregnancy, and a fate intertwined with darkness. As her powers awaken, she must face the unthinkable: she's not human. But what happens when the devil starts to care? When love becomes a threat, and desire could destroy them both? Is she Lucifer's salvation... or his greatest downfall?

Lucifer's Captive Bride Chapter 1 Act 1

I've never felt truly alone, not since the accident. There's always been something-someone-watching me. I can't explain it, but it's there. A shadow in the corner of my vision, a chill that creeps down my spine when I'm alone in the house.

I remember that day like it was yesterday, no matter how hard I try to forget. The screeching tires, the glass shattering, the smell of burning rubber. I remember crawling from the wreckage, my heart pounding, and seeing him-just standing there in the distance, watching. I've told myself a thousand times that it wasn't real, that it was just my mind playing tricks on me. But that cold feeling, the way his eyes seemed to hold mine even from far away-I'll never forget it.

It's been seven years since the accident, and sometimes I still wake up in the middle of the night, drenched in sweat, that same cold creeping through me. I hear footsteps in the halls when there's no one else around. I see shadows move when they shouldn't.

I shake it off most days. I have to.

My seventeenth birthday is tomorrow, and I should be excited. But instead, all I feel is uneasy. Maybe it's the weather.

I can't shake the feeling that something is coming. Something I can't stop.

I turn away from the window and head to the kitchen, trying to push the thoughts out of my head. It's just another storm, I tell myself. Just another night.

But as I step into the hallway, I see it-a figure, standing at the far end. Tall, dark, watching me. My heart skips a beat, my breath catching in my throat. For a second, I think it's just a trick of the light, but then he moves. Slowly, deliberately.

I blink, and he's gone.

I stand frozen, my heart racing, staring at the empty hallway. He was there. I know he was. But there's no one here now, just the echo of my footsteps and the pounding of my heart.

I take a deep breath, forcing myself to move. It's nothing, just my mind playing tricks again. I've seen things like this before. But this time, it felt different. More real.

I glance back at the hallway one last time before I head to my room, closing the door behind me. As I lay down in bed, I can't help but feel like the storm isn't the only thing coming.

Something-or someone-is watching. And I have no idea who he is.

The next morning is just like every other. I wake up before the sun rises, the quiet of the house pressing down on me. Aunt Tessa is probably still asleep in her room, and I move quickly, not wanting to wake her. Not that it matters. We haven't had a proper conversation in years, and even the sound of my footsteps tends to annoy her. I know what she thinks every time she looks at me. I see it in her eyes: the resentment, the anger. To her, I'm the one who stole her sister away, the one who somehow survived when my parents and siblings didn't.

The small bedroom I sleep in has no windows, just four walls and a ceiling that feels closer every day. It used to be a storage room before Aunt Tessa reluctantly gave it to me after my parents died. I grab my work clothes from the chair by the door and slip into them. Same as always-jeans worn down at the knees, a shirt that's faded from too many washes, and shoes that feel like they'll fall apart at any second. I don't care what I look like. At the restaurant, no one notices. No one ever notices.

The kitchen is as cold and empty as I left it last night. I glance at the fridge out of habit, but I already know what's inside. A few leftovers from Aunt Tessa's dinner, none of which she'll offer to me. She never does. I grab my bag and head out the door before she can wake up, the early morning chill biting at my skin. The walk to the restaurant is short, but it's the only time of the day I feel free. There's no one here to glare at me, no one to remind me of what I've lost.

By the time I arrive at the restaurant, the sun is starting to peek over the horizon, casting long shadows across the sidewalk. Mrs. Patel is already inside, moving with the speed and efficiency of someone who's been doing this for decades. She's a small woman, with graying hair pulled into a tight bun and sharp eyes that don't miss a thing. I like her. She doesn't pity me, and she doesn't treat me like I'm invisible. She just expects me to work hard, and that's something I can do.

"Morning, Selene," she calls out from behind the counter, not looking up from the register.

"Morning, Mrs. Patel," I reply, tying my apron around my waist and slipping into the back to start the dishes. The familiar clatter of plates and the hiss of the dishwasher fill the kitchen, and I let myself fall into the rhythm of it. The routine is comforting, even if it's exhausting. At least here, I'm useful. At least here, I can forget about everything else.

The lunch rush comes in waves, with customers filing in and out, their voices blending into a constant hum of conversation. I barely notice them, my hands moving on autopilot as I clear tables and refill drinks. Every now and then, Mrs. Patel catches my eye and nods approvingly. It's the only acknowledgment I need.

By noon, the crowd thins out, and the restaurant settles into its usual midday lull. That's when the doorbell chimes, and I glance up to see Liam walking in, a grin already spreading across his face. He looks the same as always-messy blond hair, a leather jacket he wears no matter the weather, and a lightness about him that I can't help but envy.

I thought I was waking up in the arms of Arthur, the man I loved. But as the morning light hit the Hamptons estate, the man buttoning his cuffs by the window turned around with eyes like chips of ice. It was Augustus Riddle, Arthur’s cruel younger brother, and I had just spent the night whispering confessions of love into the wrong man's ear. The night I thought was a beautiful beginning turned into a devastating nightmare. Instead of comfort, Gus treated me like a stain on his expensive carpet, scribbling a check for "services rendered" before shoving me into a dark service corridor to hide my existence from his brother. "How much does it cost to buy your silence?" He sneered, before leaving me barefoot in a torrential downpour while he drove away in a luxury Cadillac. Four years later, I am a struggling actress in Los Angeles, working double shifts as a barista just to keep the lights on. My life was finally stable until my roommate dragged me to a high-end dinner to meet her new "influential" boyfriend. The man sitting at the table, looking more arrogant and lethal than ever, was Augustus. He spent the entire night humiliating me, calling me a pathetic amateur and a social climber in front of my only friends. When I fled into the rain and collapsed on the sidewalk, skinning my knee until I bled, he watched from his car. He saw me clutching a plastic baggie containing the taped-together pieces of that four-year-old check—the only proof of my shame. He looked at me like roadkill, rolled up his window, and drove off into the dark. I couldn't understand why he was doing this. Why did he hate me enough to crush me, yet remember that I couldn't handle the smell of cigarette smoke? Why did he leave me bleeding in the street, only to send expensive medical supplies and coffee to my door the very next morning? "I'm moving out." I told my roommates, realizing that Gus Riddle didn't just want to destroy me; he wanted to haunt me. I grabbed my suitcase and walked out with eighty dollars to my name, finally ready to disappear into the city before he could burn the rest of my life to the ground.

The heavy thud of the release stamp was the only goodbye I got from the warden after five years in federal prison. I stepped out into the blinding sun, expecting the same flash of paparazzi bulbs that had seen me dragged away in handcuffs, but there was only a single black limousine idling on the shoulder of the road. Inside sat my mother and sister, clutching champagne and looking at my frayed coat with pure disgust. They didn't offer a welcome home; instead, they tossed a thick legal document onto the table and told me I was dead to the city. "Gavin and I are getting engaged," my sister Mia sneered, flicking a credit card at me like I was a stray dog. "He doesn't need a convict ex-fiancée hanging around." Even after I saved their lives from an armed kidnapping attempt by ramming the attackers off the road, they rewarded me by leaving me stranded in the dirt. When I finally ran into Gavin, the man who had framed me, he pinned me against a wall and threatened to send me back to a cell if I ever dared to show my face at their wedding. They had stolen my biotech research, ruined my name, and let me rot for half a decade while they lived off my brilliance. They thought they had broken me, leaving me with nothing but an expired chapstick and a few old photos in a plastic bag. What they didn't know was that I had spent those five years becoming "Dr. X," a shadow consultant with five hundred million dollars in crypto and a secret that would bring the city to its knees. I wasn't just a victim anymore; I was a weapon, and I was pregnant with the heir they thought they had erased. I walked into the Melton estate and made an offer to the most powerful man in New York. "I'll save your grandfather's life," I told Horatio Melton, staring him down. "But the price is your last name. I'm taking back what's mine, and I'm starting with the man who thinks he's marrying my sister."

I went to the New York City Clerk's office to handle a simple administrative matter, but the woman behind the glass handed me a nightmare instead. It was a certified marriage license from Clark County, Nevada, filed exactly three months ago. My vision blurred as I read the name in the spouse field: Baxter Noel. I was legally married to the ruthless billionaire whose legal team was currently suing me for intellectual property theft and trying to destroy my career. I remembered the conference in Las Vegas and a drink that tasted far too sweet, followed by a twelve-hour black hole in my memory that I had chalked up to exhaustion. When I sought help at my family's estate, my stepmother and sister didn't offer comfort; they stole my passport, shredded my clothes, and framed me for academic plagiarism to strip away my university fellowship. Even Baxter himself looked me in the eye with cold indifference, claiming he didn't know me and promising to have me arrested for fraud if I ever showed him that document again. Within twenty-four hours, I was homeless, jobless, and being hunted by the most powerful man in the city. I couldn't understand why a man who "eats people for breakfast" would be caught in the same trap as a struggling scientist like me. The confusion turned to pure terror when I looked at the witness signature on the license: Gene Mcclain. My mother, who was supposed to have died in a car crash ten years ago, had signed that paper with a fresh, trembling hand only ninety days ago. "I am holding a grenade, and I have no idea when the pin was pulled." Standing in the biting November wind with nothing but a laptop and a marriage license, I realized I was just a pawn in a much deadlier game. I stopped running and began to fight back, determined to use my unwanted status as the billionaire's wife to uncover the truth about the mother who came back from the dead.
