I was kidnapped by the rival tribe of my Alpha. When it happened, my Alpha was watching the sunrise with his destined mate. When he got the call, he spoke to the kidnappers in a detached tone. "Keep her tied up. Let her learn her lesson and stop pestering me." In that life-or-death moment, I had no options left. I clung to the rival tribe's Alpha, my voice shaking. "Please... don't kill me. I'll do anything you say." By the time my Alpha finally remembered me, the rival tribe's Alpha looked down at my sleeping face in his arms and chuckled. "Too late. She doesn't have the strength to leave with you now."

Chapter 1

When I was kidnapped by the rival tribe, my Alpha was watching the sunrise with his destined mate.

When he got the call, he spoke to the kidnappers in a detached tone. "Keep her tied up. Let her learn her lesson and stop pestering me."

In that life-or-death moment, I had no options left.

I clung to the rival tribe's Alpha, my voice shaking. "Please... don't kill me. I'll do anything you say."

By the time my Alpha finally remembered me, the rival tribe's Alpha looked down at my sleeping face in his arms and chuckled. "Too late. She doesn't have the strength to leave with you now."

...

On the tenth year with Alpha Locke Fowler, he finally agreed to swear an oath with me before the Moon Goddess.

I was thrilled and prepared a gift for him.

When I found him in the hotel suite, he was chatting casually with his men.

"Are you really swearing an oath with Julie tomorrow?" someone asked.

"No way," Locke replied. "A woman who can't bear children? She's got no right to be my mate."

Another voice laughed. "Aren't you afraid she'll leave you when she finds out?"

Locke smirked dismissively. "She'd have to be able to leave me first. Even if she storms off, she'll be begging to come back in three days. Bet on it?"

Laughter erupted. "Yeah, she's got no backbone," someone added.

I turned and left, my body ice-cold amid their mocking laughter.

At the oath ceremony the next day, Locke stood in the center in a tailored suit, basking in everyone's admiration.

I approached in my plainest dress.

His face darkened when he saw me. "On a day this important, you're trying to embarrass me?"

I looked at him steadily. "Let's get started."

His gaze was icy and sharp.

He suddenly turned and pulled Debbie Tucker from the crowd.

As he did, her cloak fell, revealing a dazzling wedding gown that stung my eyes.

"Honored Moon Goddess, I, Locke Fowler, declare Debbie Tucker as my destined mate. Bear witness to our bond!"

Everyone stared at the three of us.

Surprisingly, my face showed no collapse.

The oath platform gave no response either.

Locke opened his mouth to speak again, but I cut him off. "If I'm not needed, can I leave?"

He sneered. "I'll wait for you to come crawling back in three days."

I turned and walked out. As I passed through the gates, tears finally fell.

He truly didn't care about me.

I thought his words last night were a joke, but he actually chose Debbie in front of everyone.

What were these ten years to him?

A discarded toy?

I barely took two steps before someone blocked my path.

Debbie stood in front of me, one hand on her hip. "Julie, don't hold a grudge against Locke. It's your own fault for being useless. He needs an heir, and you're not fit for that."

Her smug face was too much. I pushed her aside. "Move."

In an instant, Locke shoved me to the ground. "You dare hurt her? Are you out of your mind?"

He ordered his men to seize me and carry out punishment.

That night, covered in wounds, I was driven out of the tribe.

There was no moonlight. Darkness surrounded me. I dragged my battered body forward.

At a fork in the road, I lost consciousness.

When I woke, I was tied to a tree, a bottomless abyss below me.

"Awake?" A magnetic voice sounded nearby.

I turned and saw Ron Moss's face. He was an Alpha too, the leader of Locke's rival tribe.

Seeing me stir, Ron dialed Locke's number. "Locke, I've got your woman. Got what I asked for?"

Locke laughed after a brief pause. "Keep her tied up. Teach her a lesson so she stops clinging to me. Oh, and tell her to try a new trick next time. This one's old."

The call ended, and with it, my last shred of hope.

Then came the crisis: a critical error in our biggest project, threatening the whole firm. In the packed conference room, under harsh lights, Ethan pointed directly at me. "Yes, it was her fault," he stated, clear and steady. The entire room turned. I became a pariah overnight, accused of fraud and disgrace. Colleagues whispered, mentors condemned me. The pain was unbearable, but Ethan only offered cold indifference, his attention now solely on Sarah Jenkins, his junior assistant. I collapsed in a forgotten office, suffering for days. When I finally found Ethan, he was tenderly bandaging Sarah's minor cut, just as he had in our previous life while I fended for myself. He dragged me away, his fingers digging into my arm. I tried to leave the firm, but Ethan and the executives forced me to take the fall, signing a brutal severance and an NDA to protect Sarah' s career. Sarah flaunted Ethan' s mother' s watch, the one he' d given me when he proposed in our previous life, and announced their engagement. "Ethan and I are getting married. You'll wish us happiness, won't you?" Why was he doing this to me again? And why was I so readily accepting my ruin? My spirit was shattered, my body broken, yet I couldn't comprehend the depths of his betrayal, or the sinister logic behind his actions. But this time, I wouldn't just accept it. The air in my tiny apartment was heavy with the scent of lavender and burnt toast, a comfort that would soon become a sickening memory. My vintage Gibson, a direct link to my family' s musical legacy, rested on my bed – destined to be sold to save the woman I loved. "Are you sure about this, Alex?" Chloe asked, her voice laced with what I, foolishly, believed was genuine concern for her supposed terminal illness. But the moment the camera started rolling, the painful truth became devastatingly clear. Mark Johnson, Chloe' s ex, swaggered in, her hand intertwined with his, their faces twisted in triumphant sneers. "He' s such a pathetic loser," Chloe laughed, her voice bright and utterly devoid of the weakness she had been faking for a month. Every loving glance, every shared secret, every sacrifice I' d made for her was just a calculated move in their cruel game of revenge for a two-year-old scholarship. They wanted to humiliate me, to shatter my music, and to break my spirit for their twisted amusement, and they wanted it all on camera. They beat me, left my arm broken and my heart in ruins, filming every agonizing second for their viral masterpiece. Why would anyone, let alone the woman I' d given everything to, orchestrate such a monstrous betrayal? How could I have been so blind? I watched my husband sign the papers that would end our marriage while he was busy texting the woman he actually loved. He didn't even glance at the header. He just scribbled the sharp, jagged signature that had signed death warrants for half of New York, tossed the file onto the passenger seat, and tapped his screen again. "Done," he said, his voice devoid of emotion. That was Dante Moretti. The Underboss. A man who could smell a lie from a mile away but couldn't see that his wife had just handed him an annulment decree disguised beneath a stack of mundane logistics reports. For three years, I scrubbed his blood out of his shirts. I saved his family's alliance when his ex, Sofia, ran off with a civilian. In return, he treated me like furniture. He even handed me a glass of whiskey—her favorite drink—forgetting that I despised the taste. I was merely a placeholder. A ghost in my own home. So, I stopped waiting. I burned our wedding portrait in the fireplace, left my platinum ring in the ashes, and boarded a one-way flight to San Francisco. I thought I was finally free. I thought I had escaped the cage. But I underestimated Dante. When he finally opened that file weeks later and realized he had signed away his wife without looking, the Reaper didn't accept defeat. He burned down the world to find me, obsessed with reclaiming the woman he had already thrown away.

The sterile white of the operating room blurred, then sharpened, as Skye Sterling felt the cold clawing its way up her body. The heart monitor flatlined, a steady, high-pitched whine announcing her end. Her uterus had been removed, a desperate attempt to stop the bleeding, but the blood wouldn't clot. It just kept flowing, warm and sticky, pooling beneath her. Through heavy eyes, she saw a trembling nurse holding a phone on speaker. "Mr. Kensington," the nurse's voice cracked, "your wife... she's critical." A pause, then a sweet, poisonous giggle. Seraphina Miller. "Liam is in the shower," Seraphina's voice purred. "Stop calling, Skye. It's pathetic. Faking a medical emergency on our anniversary? Even for you, that's low." Then, Liam's bored voice: "If she dies, call the funeral home. I have a meeting in the morning." Click. The line went dead. A second later, so did Skye. The darkness that followed was absolute, suffocating, a black ocean crushing her lungs. She screamed into the void, a silent, agonizing wail of regret for loving a man who saw her as a nuisance, for dying without ever truly living. Until she died, she didn't understand. Why was her life so tragically wasted? Why did her husband, the man she loved, abandon her so cruelly? The injustice of it all burned hotter than the fever in her body. Then, the air rushed back in. Skye gasped, her body convulsing violently on the mattress. Her eyes flew open, wide and terrified, staring blindly into the darkness. Her trembling hand reached for her phone. May 12th. Five years ago. She was back.
