The Mob's Bride Chapter 1

I was Ava Hudson, the future daughter-in-law of a prominent councilman in the city of Windhaven.

My fiancé, Leo Kennedy, was a celebrated rising star in politics, admired by all.

But deep in his heart, he harbored a love for a woman named Isabella Fuller, his untouchable ideal.

Now, the notorious crime lord Alessandro Marcello had declared his intent to marry Isabella.

I overheard Leo's chilling voice from outside the study. "Send Ava to him. No matter how ruthless he is, would he dare touch the councilman's future daughter-in-law?"

I followed his plan and married into the Marcello family.

Later, it was Leo who lost his mind.

...

In Windhaven, everyone knew Alessandro, the head of the Marcello family, was a maniac.

He was cold, brutal, and took pleasure in pressing a scalding cigar onto the back of his opponents' hands during negotiations.

Yet this man had recently demanded Leo's beloved Isabella for himself.

My fiancé, the councilman's son, locked himself in his study for two days and two nights after hearing the news.

I stood outside the carved wooden door, holding a plate of sliced fruit.

Through the crack, I caught the hushed voices of Leo and his assistant. "But Alessandro's deadline is three days after your wedding to Ava. We're out of time!"

"Then use the wedding to our advantage. On the day, with guests swarming and security at its tightest yet most chaotic, it's the perfect moment to slip Isabella away." Leo's voice carried a coldness I had never heard before.

"What about Ava? What happens to the wedding?"

"The wedding goes on as planned, but on the way to the chapel, put Ava in Alessandro's car. Tell her it's part of the plan, that she's to stall him for a few days. He wants Isabella. As long as we hide her well, he won't find her and will let Ava go."

My hand trembled, and the crystal fruit plate crashed onto the carpet.

"I can't let Isabella fall into that monster's hands. He'll destroy her."

The assistant's voice brimmed with worry. "But Ava is your fiancée. If Alessandro realizes we switched them, he'll kill her."

Leo let out a cold laugh. "What's there to fear? No matter how unhinged he is, would he dare touch the councilman's future daughter-in-law? Once this blows over, I'll find a way to bring Ava back. I'll make it up to her."

My blood turned to ice, the chill spreading from my fingertips to my heart.

My grand wedding was nothing but a perfect cover for him to save his true love.

He planned to hand his bride over to another monster's cage in front of the world.

I was merely a disposable stand-in, a pawn to buy time.

His talk of making it up to me sounded like a cruel joke.

The door opened.

Leo saw me and the mess on the floor, his expression shifting briefly.

He crouched down, reaching for my hand. "Ava, you heard everything?"

I pulled away, bending to pick up the shattered pieces myself.

The sharp crystal sliced my fingertip, and a bead of blood welled up.

Leo grabbed my wrist, drawing my finger into his mouth.

The warmth of his touch made my stomach churn.

He always did this, striking a blow then offering a sweet gesture.

"Ava, you're the only one who can help me," he said, his eyes filled with the familiar pity I knew so well.

But I knew it wasn't for me.

"For Isabella?" I asked softly.

His gaze flickered, then hardened with resolve. "For us too. As long as Isabella is safe, Alessandro's wrath won't touch us. Ava, my father's position, our future, it all hinges on this. Marry him for now. I swear I'll bring you back soon."

He pulled me into his arms, his chin resting on my head. "Don't be afraid. I'll protect you."

The words rang hollow, dripping with irony.

In his embrace, I caught the faint scent of perfume that wasn't mine.

It was Isabella's favorite, a blend of lily and chamomile.

I closed my eyes and whispered, "Okay."

Everyone in the city of Westrington knew that Claire Harrington, the youngest daughter the Harringtons found and brought back years ago, was the fiercest woman in town. Her husband, Gavin Fulton, wasn't just the only heir to Fulton Group—he was also the most sought-after surgeon in the entire city. They pampered Claire, let her run wild, and gave her everything she ever wanted. Her older brother, Graham Harrington, had her back at the company. He once swore publicly that the company would always belong to Claire, and he was just the one making money for her. The only one who ever encouraged her to step out of her comfort zone was Nina Harrington, the "wrong heiress" raised in Claire's place. Nina told her to be independent, to stop relying on others. Claire laughed it off, thinking Nina was just overthinking everything. Until the news hit—Nina had been stabbed in the Harrington Group underground garage. Claire rushed to call the one person she trusted most—Gavin. But the reply from the hospital shattered her. Gavin was in surgery... saving the man who'd attacked Nina. Even her brother Graham redirected all available medical staff to ensure the attacker survived. Claire screamed. She begged. She dropped to her knees, pleading with them to save her sister. But Graham simply ordered someone to restrain her. "Claire, calm down, would you? She's not even your real sister. Even if you lose her, you still have a husband and a brother who love you. But Marissa... she's different. And that man we're saving, he raised Marissa for over twenty years!"

I was once the princess of the Upper East Side, but now I’m just "debt wrapped in pretty skin." To keep my father alive in a federal penitentiary, I signed a contract I didn't fully understand. I thought it was about restoring my family's name, but producer Barnett Orr treated it like a bill of sale for my soul. Inside his limousine, the air smelled like gasoline and fear. Barnett didn't want a star; he wanted a victim. He bruised my jaw and ripped my vintage silk gown to shreds, laughing because he knew I couldn't fight back without signing my father's death warrant. "Don't forget who owns you, Felicity," he whispered. When he dragged me into Dewitt Knight’s penthouse party, I was a walking disaster. I huddled in Barnett’s oversized jacket, my lip bleeding and my spirit shattered. The elite crowd didn't see a victim; they saw a fallen girl selling herself for a role. A former rival poured red wine over me, and the room erupted in cruel laughter while Barnett told everyone he was just "testing my commitment." I looked up at the balcony, locking eyes with Dewitt Knight. He was a god in a bespoke suit, looking down at me with cold, lethal disgust. He didn't see the bruises or the desperation. He only saw a transaction he found beneath him. "So the rumors are true," he said, his voice cutting through the music. "The Aguilars really will do anything for money now. Even this." I was trapped between a monster who wanted to break me and a man who thought I was trash. No one cared that my father's life depended on my silence. When Barnett cornered me in a guest room later that night, his belt jingling like a death knell, I realized no one was coming to save a girl like me. I fought back with a crystal vase, shattering it against his shoulder, but I was drowning in my own terror. Just as Barnett lunged for my throat, the door was kicked off its hinges. Dewitt stood there, finally seeing the blood on the carpet and the map of purple bruises on my bare back. He chased the monster away, but I didn't feel safe. I locked the guest room door, wedged a chair under the handle, and slept with a silver letter opener pressed against my skin. When I crept into the kitchen at midnight and found him waiting in the shadows, I aimed the blade at his heart. "In this house, no one hurts you," he promised, his voice a low velvet rumble. But in a world where I had already been sold once, I knew that even protection came with a price I couldn't afford to pay.

Flash Marriage To My Best Friend's Father

Flash Marriage To My Best Friend's Father

I was once the heiress to the Solomon empire, but after it crumbled, I became the "charity case" ward of the wealthy Hyde family. For years, I lived in their shadows, clinging to the promise that Anson Hyde would always be my protector. That promise shattered when Anson walked into the ballroom with Claudine Chapman on his arm. Claudine was the girl who had spent years making my life a living hell, and now Anson was announcing their engagement to the world. The humiliation was instant. Guests sneered at my cheap dress, and a waiter intentionally sloshed champagne over me, knowing I was a nobody. Anson didn't even look my way; he was too busy whispering possessively to his new fiancée. I was a ghost in my own home, watching my protector celebrate with my tormentor. The betrayal burned. I realized I wasn't a ward; I was a pawn Anson had kept on a shelf until he found a better trade. I had no money, no allies, and a legal trust fund that Anson controlled with a flick of his wrist. Fleeing to the library, I stumbled into Dallas Koch-a titan of industry and my best friend's father. He was a wall of cold, absolute power that even the Hydes feared. "Marry me," I blurted out, desperate to find a shield Anson couldn't climb. Dallas didn't laugh. He pulled out a marriage agreement and a heavy fountain pen. "Sign," he commanded, his voice a low rumble. "But if you walk out that door with me, you never go back." I signed my name, trading my life for the only man dangerous enough to keep me safe.

No Longer Mrs. Cooley: The Architect's Return

No Longer Mrs. Cooley: The Architect's Return

I went to the City Clerk’s office for a routine copy of my marriage license to finalize a trust fund audit. I expected a simple piece of paper, but the clerk’s pitying look told me my entire life was a lie. "The license was never finalized, Ms. Oliver. In the eyes of the state, you are single." The three-hundred-guest wedding at the Plaza and the Vogue features meant nothing. My husband, Gray Cooley, had intentionally filed the documents with a "procedural defect" so he could discard me without a legal divorce. Moments later, an iCloud invite titled "Our Little Secret" popped up on my screen. It was a photo of my best friend, Brylee, holding a positive pregnancy test at our Hamptons estate. Gray’s text to her was the final blow: "Happy anniversary, babe. This baby is the best gift. Once the trust unlocks today, we’re done with the charade." I soon discovered they were even stealing my career, reassigning my architectural masterpiece to Brylee while preparing my eviction notice. Gray's mother called me a "barren mule" in a leaked recording, mocking the infertility I suffered after saving Gray’s life in a construction accident. I wasn't a wife; I was a three-year placeholder used to secure his inheritance. How could the man I bled for treat me like a disposable prop? How could my best friend carry his child while pretending to comfort me through my darkest moments? The betrayal burned until it turned into a cold, hard stone of fury. I didn't cry. Instead, I walked into the penthouse of the Barretts, the Cooleys' most powerful rivals. I signed a marriage contract with Kane Barrett, the man the tabloids called the "Beast of Wall Street." "I want a wedding," I told his father, my voice steady and lethal. "Bigger than the one I had with Gray." If they wanted me gone, they would have to watch me become the woman who owns their world.
