On our third anniversary, my husband canceled our dinner, claiming a sudden work emergency. I tracked his phone to an exclusive French restaurant, only to find him tenderly fastening a blessed bracelet-one I had flown across the world to get for him-onto his college ex-girlfriend's wrist. The sheer shock triggered a violent placental abruption. Bleeding out in my car just across the street, I frantically called his number. Through the window, I watched him glance at his screen, frown in annoyance, and press decline to focus on his lover. While I was wheeled into a freezing operating room for an emergency C-section utterly alone, he took his mistress back to our marital bed. He didn't even bother to check if I was alive, completely oblivious that our premature daughter was fighting for her life in the NICU. I soon discovered our entire marriage was a sham. He had used my family's wealth to save his company, and now he was trading me to secure a massive business deal with his ex's father. The man I loved didn't exist; he only saw me as a disposable asset. "I'm going to make him wish he had never been born." After secretly securing my baby in a private retreat, I ordered a medical-grade silicone pregnancy belly to hide my flat stomach. I stepped back into our penthouse, ready to burn his precious empire to the ground.

The Neglected Wife's Vicious Comeback Game Chapter 1

"Julian, I made the reservations at Le Ciel, just like you wanted," Adalynn Craig said into the phone, smoothing down the silk of her dress. She ran a hand over her seven-month belly, a reflexive and protective gesture.

"Cancel it," Julian Hawthorne's voice came through the speaker, clipped and cold. "Something came up at work. Emergency board meeting. I do not have time tonight."

Adalynn's fingers tightened around her phone. "But Julian, it is our anniversary. I thought we could at least..."

"We can do it another time," he snapped, abruptly ending the call.

A familiar and cold knot formed in Adalynn's stomach. Disappointment, sharp and bitter, rose in her throat. She sat on the edge of her bed, looking at the beautiful maternity dress she had bought specifically for tonight. He had asked her to book the restaurant, only to brush her off again.

Just as she was about to unzipper her dress, her phone buzzed with a new text message. It was from Julian's assistant's number.

Mr. Hawthorne has a special surprise prepared for you at Le Ciel tonight. Please come as soon as possible.

There was no signature at the end of the message, but Adalynn's heart instantly leaped in her chest. The heavy disappointment melted away, replaced by a warm flutter of excitement. He had faked the cancellation! He was pretending to be busy just to surprise her for their anniversary.

A joyful smile broke across her face. She quickly grabbed her purse and drove straight to the restaurant, her mind buzzing with happy anticipation.

Le Ciel was the most expensive and romantic French restaurant in the city. Walking into the elegant, dimly lit dining room, Adalynn eagerly scanned the tables for her husband.

Her gaze stopped at a secluded corner booth bathed in the warm glow of candlelight. Her breath hitched. Julian was indeed there.

But he was not waiting for her. And he was not alone.

Across from him sat Carlene Shaffer. She was his college girlfriend, the one he had sworn was just a part of his past. Before Adalynn's brain could even process the sight, Carlene grabbed Julian's collar and pulled him close. Right there in the corner of the restaurant, their lips locked in a deep, passionate French kiss. They kissed with reckless abandon, completely lost in each other, their tongues tangling intimately as if the rest of the world had ceased to exist.

The theatrical cruelty of the scene shattered Adalynn's entire world. The intimate gesture burned into her very soul. Driven by a mix of utter devastation and adrenaline, she marched toward the table.

"Julian!" her voice trembled, loud enough to break their romantic spell.

Julian pulled away from Carlene. He did not look panicked. He did not look guilty. Instead, a deep scowl twisted his handsome features as he looked up at his pregnant wife. He looked at her as if she were a nuisance that had just ruined his perfect evening.

"What the hell are you doing here?" he demanded, his voice dripping with annoyance.

"What am I doing here?" Adalynn stammered, tears brimming in her eyes. "The assistant texted me about a surprise! Is this it, Julian? Is this my anniversary surprise?!"

Carlene let out a smug, malicious laugh, leaning back in her chair to expose her cleavage. "Oh, Julian, your wife is so incredibly clingy."

"Go home, Adalynn. You are in the way and making a scene," Julian said coldly, casually adjusting his expensive cuffs.

"A scene? You are kissing your ex-girlfriend on our anniversary!" Adalynn screamed, her voice cracking with agony.

Julian stood up, towering over her. His eyes were devoid of any warmth or affection. "Since you are here to ruin my evening, let's get one thing straight. I have only ever loved Carlene."

Adalynn felt the air leave her lungs in a painful rush. "What... what are you saying?"

"I married you because my grandfather demanded it, and because the board wanted to see me settled with an heir," Julian said, his words slicing through her like a scalpel. "You are nothing but a tool to me, Adalynn. A convenient pawn. Now stop embarrassing yourself and leave us alone."

The words were a physical blow. The extreme emotional shock sent a violent tremor through her body. At that exact moment, a vicious and searing pain tore through her abdomen. It was a cramp so intense it stole her breath, making her double over.

"Ah!" Adalynn cried out, her legs giving out completely. She collapsed onto the hard marble floor, clutching her swollen belly. A sudden, warm gush of fluid soaked through her dress. Her water had broken.

"Julian... the baby..." she gasped, her face turning deathly pale, covered in cold sweat. She was in so much pain she couldn't move an inch. "It hurts... please help me..."

Julian looked down at her writhing on the floor. His expression hardened with absolute disgust.

"Stop acting, Adalynn. It is pathetic," he sneered.

"I'm not... call an ambulance!" she begged, reaching a trembling hand toward his shoes.

He stepped back, avoiding her touch as if she were a disease. "You always resort to these cheap, dramatic tricks when you don't get your way. I am not falling for it."

He turned to Carlene and gently offered her his arm. "Let's go somewhere else, darling. The mood here is completely ruined."

Carlene smirked, her heels clicking on the marble as she stepped right past Adalynn's trembling body. "Poor thing. Better luck next time," she mocked softly.

Adalynn watched through blurring vision as Julian wrapped his arm around Carlene's waist. He walked out the door without looking back a single time, leaving his wife and his unborn child dying on the floor.

Panic finally erupted in the restaurant. Waiters rushed over, and someone yelled to call 911. The physical agony and the emotional devastation merged into a single, overwhelming wave of blackness.

At the hospital, Adalynn was rushed through the glowing white corridors.

"Severe placental abruption!" a doctor shouted, his voice urgent. "She's hemorrhaging. We need to do an emergency C-section, right now! We are losing them both!"

As the anesthesia began to pull her under, Julian's cruel words echoed in her mind. You are nothing but a tool.

When Adalynn finally stabilized hours later, she learned her daughter, Lily, had been born prematurely and was fighting for her life in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit.

Lying in the sterile, freezing hospital bed, she did not cry. The woman who had loved Julian Hawthorne died on the floor of that restaurant. In her place, something cold, unforgiving, and unbreakable was born.

Julian had destroyed her heart, humiliated her, and abandoned their child to die.

When the time came, she would make sure he paid for it with every breath he took.
