On the night of an arranged alliance between two powerful werewolf packs, the true bride disappears without a trace. To prevent a political disaster, her overlooked younger sister, Elara Ashcroft, is forced to take her place and marry the feared Alpha Kael Blackthorne. Everyone believes she is merely a substitute. What no one knows is that Elara witnessed a murder years ago-a murder tied to the disappearance of the Moon Oracle and the fall of the royal bloodline. She has spent years pretending to be insignificant to stay alive. Now, trapped inside the Blackthorne Pack, she discovers someone is willing to kill again to keep the truth buried. Worse, the mysterious Moon Mark on her wrist reacts only to Kael... suggesting she may be the true Luna foretold by prophecy.

The Substitute Luna Who Knew Too Much Chapter 1 The Bride Who Was Never Meant to Wear White

The wedding bells had not even begun to ring when the first scream echoed through Ashcroft Manor, It came from the bridal suite, Servants rushed through the marble hallway, their panicked footsteps drowning out the orchestra rehearsing downstairs, One maid stumbled out of the room, her face drained of color, "The bride is gone!" Silence crashed over the mansion, Every member of the Ashcroft family froze, Then chaos erupted, "Search every room!" "Lock the gates!" "No one leaves the estate!" Elara Ashcroft remained hidden behind a carved wooden pillar on the second floor, clutching the stack of

guest invitations she'd been ordered to organize, No one noticed her, They rarely did, Her older sister, Iris-the celebrated daughter of the Ashcroft family and today's bride-had vanished less than an hour before marrying Alpha Kael Blackthorne, Elara's heartbeat quickened, Iris wouldn't run, Not without leaving a sign.

A memory surfaced, The night before, Iris had slipped into Elara's room carrying an old silver pendant shaped like a crescent moon, "If anything happens to me," she'd whispered, pressing it into Elara's hand, "don't trust anyone wearing a raven crest," Before Elara could ask what she meant, Iris had hugged her tightly and left, She hadn't seen her since, "Elara!" Her father's sharp voice shattered the memory, She looked up as Victor Ashcroft strode toward her, his tailored suit immaculate despite the panic consuming the household, His eyes held no fatherly concern, Only calculation, "Come with me."

Inside the family library, the air felt suffocating, Her mother paced before the fireplace while several elders whispered among themselves, No one invited Elara to sit, Victor closed the door, "The alliance cannot fail," Elara frowned, "I don't understand." "You don't need to." Her mother's voice was cold enough to freeze the room, "You'll wear Iris's dress," For several seconds, Elara thought she'd misheard, "...What?" "You resemble your sister enough beneath a veil." The words landed harder than any slap, "The guests have never met Iris closely, Neither has Alpha Kael." Elara stared at them, "You want me to marry him?" Her father stepped closer, "I want you to save this family."

"No." The answer escaped before fear could stop it, "I won't lie to an Alpha." Victor's expression darkened, "You think you have a choice?" He nodded toward the window, Outside, dozens of armored werewolves patrolled the estate, "The Blackthorne Pack believes this marriage will secure peace." "If the wedding is canceled..." He let the sentence hang, Her mother finished it, "There will be war." Elara's hands trembled, "This isn't my responsibility." "No." Her mother smiled without warmth, "It became yours the moment your sister disappeared."

An hour later, Elara stood before the mirror wearing a gown tailored for another woman, The lace sleeves fit perfectly, Too perfectly, Almost as if someone had expected this, She brushed the thought aside, A maid fastened the veil, Hidden beneath the delicate fabric, the crescent pendant rested against Elara's chest, Its surface felt strangely warm, The door opened, "You have five minutes." Victor didn't even look at her, To him, she wasn't his daughter, She was a replacement, A substitute.

The ceremony began beneath towering white arches decorated with silver roses, Hundreds of guests filled the grand hall, Leaders from powerful packs watched in silence, At the altar stood Alpha Kael Blackthorne, He was taller than she'd imagined, Broad shoulders, Dark tailored suit, Cold gray eyes that missed nothing, Even from across the room, his presence commanded absolute authority, Every instinct warned Elara to run, Instead, she walked forward, Each step felt heavier than the last, When she reached him, Kael looked directly into her eyes through the veil, Something flickered across his face, Recognition? Confusion? Suspicion? His wolf stirred, She felt it, A strange warmth spread through her wrist, Beneath the lace glove, a faint silver symbol shimmered for the briefest moment, Then vanished, Kael's gaze sharpened, He had seen something.

The elder conducting the ceremony raised the ceremonial dagger, "By the blessing of the Moon Goddess, do you accept this union?" Kael answered first, "I do." The elder turned to Elara, Every eye in the hall settled on her, Her throat tightened, If she refused... War, If she accepted... She would be living a lie, "I..."

A crash exploded from the entrance, The massive doors burst open, A bloodied guard staggered inside before collapsing onto the marble floor, He lifted a shaking hand, "They're here..." Before anyone could react, a black arrow pierced his chest, The hall erupted into screams, Masked assassins flooded inside, Kael moved instantly, "Protect the bride!" His command thundered through the chamber, The nearest assassin lunged toward Elara, Kael intercepted him with terrifying speed, his fist sending the attacker crashing into a stone pillar, More enemies poured into the hall, This wasn't a random attack, Someone had known the wedding would happen, Someone had wanted to stop it, Or ensure no one left alive.

As Elara backed away, her heel struck the altar, The crescent pendant slipped from beneath her dress, The moment it touched the ancient stone, the entire hall trembled, A blinding silver light erupted from the pendant, Symbols carved into the altar awakened one after another, Everyone froze, Kael stared at the glowing pendant, His normally unreadable face filled with shock, Only one artifact in werewolf history could awaken the Moon Altar, The lost pendant of the First Luna.

Before anyone could speak, an elderly woman near the front gasped, Her voice quivered with disbelief, "The substitute bride..." She pointed directly at Elara, "...has the mark of the True Luna." The hall fell into stunned silence, Outside, a lone figure watched from the shadows, Hidden beneath a raven-crested cloak, he smiled, "So... she's finally revealed herself."
