I am the Dragonless Queen, married to the Dragon King for five years, trying to warm his icy heart. But on my twenty-fifth birthday, he canceled our private dinner to spend it with my half-sister, Lyra. Through the cracked door, I watched him smile at Lyra with a warmth he never gave me, praising her sacred dragonfire. "Auntie Lyra is amazing!" my four-year-old daughter squealed. "Mom never knows how to make these!" My husband didn't even look up when I finally entered, coldly telling me not to make an issue out of a quiet family evening. Looking at the three of them framed by the hearth-the formidable king, the holy maiden of flame, and the adoring royal daughter-they formed a picture of unassailable perfection. I was just a cold-blooded intruder in my own home, a decorative fixture tolerated only for political peace. Five years of silent endurance evaporated into a freezing void. Why did I bury my true self, believing devotion could fill the empty spaces? Why did I let them treat me like a shameful defect? I didn't scream or cry. I calmly drafted a formal Declaration of Severance, left it on his desk, and walked out of the palace forever. My husband assumed I was just throwing a domestic tantrum and would come crawling back once my coin ran out. He had no idea that his useless, Dragonless wife was actually the shadowy founder of Aether Forge-the premier military syndicate his entire empire desperately relied on to survive. Keep your throne, Kaelen. I am taking back my life.

His Unwanted Queen Is A Secret Genius Chapter 1

Aurelia Vance POV:

"Kaelen, didn't you promise we would celebrate my birthday today?" I murmured to myself, pushing open the heavy ironwood doors of the dragon nest.

The grand foyer of the Drakos royal roost was a cavern of polished obsidian and dead silence. Overhead, luminous dragon crystals cast a cold glare.

I smoothed the fabric of my simple ivory gown. It was devoid of dragonscale embroidery. In a palace that worshipped fire, a Dragonless woman like me wearing sacred runes was an act of treason.

As I neared the private hearth room, a burst of bright, childish laughter spilled through the cracked door.

I pushed the door open, the faint spark of hope in my chest instantly dying.

My husband, King Kaelen Drakos, lounged on a dark velvet sofa. His midnight silk tunic bore the gold flame heraldry of sovereign pure-bloods. The suffocating, predatory aura of a sky-monarch was gone, replaced by a rare, relaxed warmth I had not seen in years.

At his feet sat our four-year-old daughter, Elara. Beside her knelt my half-sister, Lyra.

Lyra spun threads of pure crimson fire between her delicate fingers, weaving them into a glowing, miniature dragon. She let it swoop down and playfully nuzzle Elara's cheek. The flame didn't burn; it only left a trail of gentle, shimmering warmth that made the child giggle in pure ecstasy.

"More, Auntie Lyra!" Elara squealed, throwing her tiny arms around Lyra's neck. "You're the best! Mom never makes anything fun. She's just cold."

The innocent words pierced my ribs like an ice pick.

Kaelen chuckled-a deep, gentle sound that made my breath hitch. "You spoil her, Lyra. But your control over the true flame is flawless. The elders are right to insist you lead the autumn blessing ceremony."

Lyra stroked Elara's hair, her red-gold eyes darting toward the doorway. A flicker of triumph danced in her gaze before she expertly molded her face into an expression of startled innocence.

"Sister!" Lyra gasped softly, rising with practiced grace. "You are back early. I was just keeping His Majesty and little Elara entertained. She gets so restless without the comfort of true fire."

I stepped fully into the light, my fingernails digging into my palms. "Kaelen, didn't you promise we would celebrate my birthday today?"

The warmth in Kaelen's golden eyes vanished instantly, freezing into that familiar wall of glacial indifference. "The private dinner is canceled, Aurelia."

"Canceled?" My voice trembled despite my best efforts. "For a casual family evening?"

"Do not be dramatic," Kaelen sighed, picking up a military dossier from the table. "Lyra has a rare evening away from the sanctuary. It made sense to dine together so she could bond with Elara. A sovereign's time is dictated by necessity, not trivial milestones."

"Mom, you ruined the fire dragons," Elara pouted, hiding behind Lyra's shimmering skirts. "I want Auntie Lyra to stay."

Lyra smiled, resting a delicate hand against the carved armrest of Kaelen's sofa.

"Please do not be angry with him, Sister. We just want what is best for the royal bloodline. You know Elara needs constant exposure to pure dragonfire to develop her core. It is a pity your veins are so... quiet. But I am more than happy to share the burden."

Every honey-coated syllable was a calculated reminder of my absolute deficiency.

I looked at the three of them framed by the roaring hearth. The formidable Dragon King, the holy maiden of flame, and the royal heir who adored her. A perfect, blazing portrait of a family.

And I was just a shadow standing in the doorway. Five years of silent devotion, of trying to warm a glacier with my bare hands, turned to ash in an instant.

"I see," I said.

I did not wait for his dismissal. I turned on my heel and walked back into the freezing corridor, leaving their cheerful laughter behind.
