Unveiling Destiny
them, the whispers of the Veiled still echoed, faint but persistent. "How much farther?" Meg called out, dodging a low-hanging branch. Adrian glanced back, his expression grim. "Not far. B
gasped as a wave of energy coursed through her, and suddenly, she understood. "Adrian!" she shouted. "The amulet-it's reacting to the gateway!" He glanced back at her, his expression a mix of relief and urgency. "Then use it!" "I don't know how!" "Trust it!" he yelled, parrying another attack. Meg closed her eyes, focusing on the amulet's warmth. The light grew stronger, spilling out in radiant waves that pushed back the darkness. When she opened her eyes, the Veiled recoiled, their forms flickering like dying flames. The amulet pulsed again, and this time, Meg felt it pull her toward the gateway. She stumbled forward, the energy surrounding her intensifying with each step. "What are you doing?" Adrian shouted, cutting down another Veiled as he turned to follow her. "I don't know!" Meg yelled back, her voice trembling. "It's pulling me-" Before she could finish, a deafening roar filled the air. The ground shook, and the void at the center of the gateway expanded, its swirling mass growing wilder and more chaotic. Adrian reached her side, his sword still raised. "The gateway's destabilizing faster than I thought. If we don't stop it now-" A voice interrupted him, deep and resonant, cutting through the chaos like a blade. "Let her come." Meg froze as a figure emerged from the void. It was humanoid, but its features were otherworldly-its skin shimmered like liquid silver, and its eyes burned with an ethereal light. "Who are you?" Adrian demanded, positioning himself between Meg and the figure. The figure tilted its head, a faint smile playing on its lips. "I am the Guardian of the Gateway. And she is the key." Adrian tightened his grip on his sword. "If you're the Guardian, then stop the Veiled. Restore the balance!" The figure's gaze shifted to Meg, ignoring Adrian entirely. "The balance cannot be restored. Not without her." Meg's throat went dry. "What do you mean?" The Guardian stepped closer, its movements unnervingly smooth. "The amulet is only part of the equation. To seal the gateway and restore the barrier, a sacrifice must be made." Meg's heart sank. "A... sacrifice?"
