Kaelyn Morley was known in Astrofleah as a pure and beautiful woman, and many young men from wealthy families dreamed of marrying her. Yet now, her private video was spreading wildly, causing a continuous plummet in the share price of the Morley Group. Many business partners were canceling contracts with the Morley Group, and her father was so angry that he was hospitalized due to a cerebral hemorrhage. But Kaelyn didn't look angry but numb at that moment just because it was one of the 99 trials imposed on her by Madelynn, Dobson, the childhood friend of Kaelyn's boyfriend, Andres Warren. Andres had claimed that he would focus solely on his career before thirty years old and wouldn't have a romantic relationship. Yet, he fell for Kaelyn at first sight and pursued her fervently for two years before finally winning her heart. Madelynn resented him for breaking his promise, so she targeted Kaelyn with various schemes and promised that Kaelyn could marry Andres if she passed the trials and that she would have to give him up if she failed. Kaelyn had believed that her love for Andres would be enough to pass those trials, and she didn't notice the triumphant smile on Madelynn's lips. Time and again, she endured the hurt inflicted in the name of these tests. Until one day, when an unwelcome hand slid under her skirt, Kaelyn let out a piercing scream and slapped the sleazy and imposing man hard. After he left, cursing, she finally collapsed into tears after holding it in for so long. It was the 99th time, and she couldn't bear it any longer.

Chapter 1

During the first trial, Madelynn forced Kaelyn's car to a halt on a viaduct. Kaelyn was bumped eighteen times. She had multiple broken bones and severe internal injuries.

Andres immediately halted an important business meeting worth billions. He deployed a medical helicopter and spent two days saving her from the brink of death.

The second time, Madelynn cut Kaelyn's safety rope during a hiking trip, causing her to fall forty meters down a cliff.

Andres dispatched ten rescue teams and hundreds of drones to look for Kaelyn. She was found three days later when she was nearly frozen to death.

Things happened like that repeatedly. Madelynn kept harming Kaelyn, while Andres kept rescuing her again and again.

"Hey, pretty woman, your video is quite dirty. How much for a night?" A greasy hand slid up Kaelyn's skirt, and she let out a piercing scream and slapped the portly man hard.

After the man left, cursing, she finally broke down. She sobbed uncontrollably. It was the 99th time, and she didn't want to endure it any longer.

She dialed the police.

The next moment, Andres called her. He didn't sound affectionate or concerned. Instead, he seemed very disappointed. "Why did you call the police? Now Madelynn is taken in for questioning."

A sourness surged in Kaelyn's throat, and her voice cracked with a sob. "She had a guy corner me outside the restroom. I was almost assaulted. Shouldn't I call the police? Andres, do you even realize I was almost raped just now?"

Listening to her hysterical questioning, Andres frowned tightly.

He said impatiently, "What are you worried about? Whenever you were in danger, I always went all out to help you out. I've told you many times that Madelynn is just competitive and likes to joke around. She means no harm. Besides, we were wrong before. How could you treat her like this?"

Tears silently fell as Kaelyn's eyes grew depressed.

Just because she and Andres started a relationship, they were wrong and owed Madelynn.

So she had to endure those grievances and could only wait for Andres to rescue her.

If he didn't arrive in time, she would have to accept her bad luck since Madelynn was just joking.

Was that so?

Kaelyn fell silent.

Andres seemed oblivious to her emotional turmoil. He continued to berate her until another call came in, prompting him to hang up without hesitation.

This scenario had happened too many times.

It was the 99th time.

But she didn't endure it silently as before. Instead, she thought of ending their relationship for the first time.

She gazed at her swollen cheek, reddened from the slap by that portly man. The love in her heart gradually faded away. She was more determined to break up with Andres.

But how could she leave? Where could she go? She felt utterly lost.

At that moment, her phone rang. She quickly dried her tears before answering it. A gentle voice came through. "Kaelyn, happy birthday."

It was Larry Saunders.

Before she chose Andres, Larry had been her most persistent yet dignified suitor.

Even though she rejected him, he continued to send her a birthday greeting each year without overstepping or causing any disturbance to her.

Her birthday? Kaelyn was stunned.

Since her father was hospitalized, no one remembered it anymore.

Even she herself had forgotten about it.

"Thank you," she managed to say, trying to sound normal.

Larry immediately sensed something was wrong. "What's happened? Do you need my help?"

Kaelyn instinctively wanted to say nothing was wrong, but the pain from her injured lip, brushed by her tears, was the final straw.

After a few seconds of silence, she said softly with sobs, "Larry, could you... take me away?"

Larry said without any hesitation on the other end of the line, "Alright. I'll come to get you in a week."

It had been a long time since someone had chosen her so resolutely.

The last time Andres treated her that way was years ago.

Back then, Andres put her first in everything.

Astrofleah never saw snow. He had spent billions to create an artificial snowfall for her just after she said she wanted to see it.

She merely lingered on an astronomy book, and he bought a planet and named it after her.

She wasn't Andres's first girlfriend, but she was the only one he introduced to her family.

He and she naturally started a relationship. They loved each other deeply, and their wedding was planned smoothly.

But everything changed completely after Madelynn returned from abroad.

As soon as the call ended, the villa door was flung open.

Andres strode in. He grabbed her wrist and dragged her along. "Come with me to the police station. Madelynn is throwing a tantrum and refuses to sign the bail papers unless you apologize to her."

Today is October 14th, my birthday. I returned to New York after months away, dragging my suitcase through the biting wind, but the VIP pickup zone where my husband’s Maybach usually idled was empty. When I finally let myself into our Upper East Side penthouse, I didn’t find a cake or a "welcome home" banner. Instead, I found my husband, Caden, kneeling on the floor, helping our five-year-old daughter wrap a massive gift for my half-sister, Adalynn. Caden didn’t even look up when I walked in; he was too busy laughing with the girl who had already stolen my father’s legacy and was now moving in on my family. "Auntie Addie is a million times better than Mommy," my daughter Elara chirped, clutching a plush toy Caden had once forbidden me from buying for her. "Mommy is mean," she whispered loudly, while Caden just smirked, calling me a "drill sergeant" before whisking her off to Adalynn’s party without a second glance. Later that night, I saw a video Adalynn posted online where my husband and child laughed while mocking my "sensitive" nature, treating me like an inconvenient ghost in my own home. I had spent five years researching nutrition for Elara’s health and managing every detail of Caden’s empire, only to be discarded the moment I wasn't in the room. How could the man who set his safe combination to my birthday completely forget I even existed? The realization didn't break me; it turned me into ice. I didn't scream or beg for an explanation. I simply walked into the study, pulled out the divorce papers I’d drafted months ago, and took a black marker to the terms. I crossed out the alimony, the mansion, and even the custody clause—if they wanted a life without me, I would give them exactly what they asked for. I left my four-carat diamond ring on the console table and walked out into the rain with nothing but a heavily encrypted hard drive. The submissive Mrs. Holloway was gone, and "Ghost," the most lethal architect in the tech world, was finally back online to take back everything they thought I’d forgotten.

I was once the heiress to the Solomon empire, but after it crumbled, I became the "charity case" ward of the wealthy Hyde family. For years, I lived in their shadows, clinging to the promise that Anson Hyde would always be my protector. That promise shattered when Anson walked into the ballroom with Claudine Chapman on his arm. Claudine was the girl who had spent years making my life a living hell, and now Anson was announcing their engagement to the world. The humiliation was instant. Guests sneered at my cheap dress, and a waiter intentionally sloshed champagne over me, knowing I was a nobody. Anson didn't even look my way; he was too busy whispering possessively to his new fiancée. I was a ghost in my own home, watching my protector celebrate with my tormentor. The betrayal burned. I realized I wasn't a ward; I was a pawn Anson had kept on a shelf until he found a better trade. I had no money, no allies, and a legal trust fund that Anson controlled with a flick of his wrist. Fleeing to the library, I stumbled into Dallas Koch—a titan of industry and my best friend’s father. He was a wall of cold, absolute power that even the Hydes feared. "Marry me," I blurted out, desperate to find a shield Anson couldn't climb. Dallas didn't laugh. He pulled out a marriage agreement and a heavy fountain pen. "Sign," he commanded, his voice a low rumble. "But if you walk out that door with me, you never go back." I signed my name, trading my life for the only man dangerous enough to keep me safe.

The sterile white of the operating room blurred, then sharpened, as Skye Sterling felt the cold clawing its way up her body. The heart monitor flatlined, a steady, high-pitched whine announcing her end. Her uterus had been removed, a desperate attempt to stop the bleeding, but the blood wouldn't clot. It just kept flowing, warm and sticky, pooling beneath her. Through heavy eyes, she saw a trembling nurse holding a phone on speaker. "Mr. Kensington," the nurse's voice cracked, "your wife... she's critical." A pause, then a sweet, poisonous giggle. Seraphina Miller. "Liam is in the shower," Seraphina's voice purred. "Stop calling, Skye. It's pathetic. Faking a medical emergency on our anniversary? Even for you, that's low." Then, Liam's bored voice: "If she dies, call the funeral home. I have a meeting in the morning." Click. The line went dead. A second later, so did Skye. The darkness that followed was absolute, suffocating, a black ocean crushing her lungs. She screamed into the void, a silent, agonizing wail of regret for loving a man who saw her as a nuisance, for dying without ever truly living. Until she died, she didn't understand. Why was her life so tragically wasted? Why did her husband, the man she loved, abandon her so cruelly? The injustice of it all burned hotter than the fever in her body. Then, the air rushed back in. Skye gasped, her body convulsing violently on the mattress. Her eyes flew open, wide and terrified, staring blindly into the darkness. Her trembling hand reached for her phone. May 12th. Five years ago. She was back.
