I was supposed to pitch our family's failing company alongside my father and my fiancé. Instead, I discovered it was a sickening trap. The men I trusted most had conspired to sell me to a fifty-year-old predator. When I barely escaped and rushed home, I found my stepmother physically abusing my frail, dying mother. "Your sick mother should have died long ago! It's your honor to bring profit to this family!" They mocked me for being a useless Omega and admitted they orchestrated everything to steal my grandfather's priceless healing formula. When I fought back and cut ties, my ex-fiancé even sabotaged my mother's emergency hospital admission to force my hand. I had given them everything, yet they treated us like disposable trash. To save my mother's life, I anonymously auctioned the ancient formula. It sold for a staggering one hundred million dollars. But my relief shattered when I learned the buyer's identity. It was the legendary Sinclair Alpha-a brutal, crippled monster rumored to feed disobedient servants to his wolves. And the condition for the money was that I had to move into his isolated, terrifying castle to personally treat him. I had just escaped the hell of my family's betrayal. But to keep my mother alive, I had no choice but to walk straight into the devil's lair.

Sold to the Shadows: The Alpha King's Forbidden Omega Chapter 1

Emilia Hayes POV:

My stomach churned, a nauseating mix of cheap champagne and fear.

Behind me, the cloying scent of Warren Stone's cigar and the sound of his wet breathing grew closer.

His rough hand clamped around my wrist, the grip tight enough to feel like bone grinding against bone.

"Stop running, little beauty." His voice was as greasy as his slicked-back hair. "Stick with me tonight, and your mother's medical bills will be taken care of."

I yanked my arm, but his grip was iron. His words, a venomous snake, slithered into my ear, a sickening reminder of how my own father and fiancé had pushed me toward this lecherous old man like a piece of meat for sale.

My heel caught on the plush carpet, and my body pitched forward. I slammed gracelessly against the wall, the impact jarring my teeth.

Warren Stone grinned, his fleshy body blocking out the light, casting me in his shadow. A wave of pure despair washed over me.

My eyes darted frantically down the corridor. A few yards away, the door to a presidential suite was ajar, a dark slit of hope in the dim hallway. It was my only way out.

Using every last ounce of strength, my free hand shot out, grabbing a heavy brass vase from a decorative table. I swung it down hard onto his foot.

He howled in pain, his grip finally loosening. I tore myself free, scrambling toward that door without a second thought.

I didn't have time to wonder who was inside or what new danger I might face. Anything was better than being caught by Warren Stone.

I shoved the heavy wooden door open, darted inside like a startled rabbit, and immediately threw the bolt lock.

Muffled curses and the thud of fists against the door came from the hallway.

I sagged against the cold wood of the door, my heart hammering against my ribs as I gasped for air. The relief of survival lasted exactly three seconds.

I had just broken into a complete stranger's room.

The main lights were off. Only the glow of the city skyline through the floor-to-ceiling windows cast a faint light, outlining the silhouettes of luxurious furniture.

The air was filled with a cool, clean scent, like a forest after a rainstorm, mingled with the faint aroma of whiskey. The smell inexplicably calmed my frayed nerves.

"What are you looking at?"

A deep, magnetic voice cut through the darkness. It wasn't loud, but it held an undeniable authority that made my entire body go rigid.

My head snapped up.

There, in front of the massive window, a tall figure sat in an armchair, his legs crossed in a pose of lazy, dangerous power.

The cherry of a cigar glowed in the dark, briefly illuminating a sharp jawline and thin, pressed lips. He was the source of that clean, forest scent.

I couldn't see his face clearly, but I could feel his gaze on me, a physical weight that made my cheap dress feel even more pathetic and flimsy.

I bit down on my lower lip, my voice trembling as I apologized. "I'm so sorry, sir. I didn't mean to... I'll leave right now."

I turned to unlock the door, but before I could reach for the handle, a commotion erupted outside. That was Warren Stone's drunken bellow. My hand froze. I couldn't go out there.

I spun back toward the shadowy figure, my voice trembling with desperation. "Please, sir, there's a man outside,he's after me. Could you just let me hide here for a moment? I'll be gone as soon as it's safe."

A low, mocking chuckle came from the armchair. "And why would I do that? You broke into my room. That's not exactly a good start." His tone was lazy, dismissive.

My stomach dropped. He was right. I had nothing to offer.

He rose slowly, walking toward me. Every step felt like a predator closing in. I pressed myself against the door, my heart racing. But when he stopped in front of me, his expression changed. The mocking indifference faded, replaced by a stunned recognition. His eyes widened slightly, and his voice dropped to a whisper, almost to himself. "You..."

He reached out, but instead of grabbing me, he gently touched the cheap pendant at my throat-the one I always wore. His fingers traced it, and his gaze softened. For a long second, he said nothing. Then, as if snapping out of a trance, he looked at the door where the noise was growing louder.

It was Warren Stone again, this time with the hotel manager. "Manager, I don't care! A thief just ran into this room!"

My face went white, my body starting to tremble uncontrollably.

His gaze flickered over my face. Then, he reached out, yanking me into his arms.

I crashed against his hard chest, my nose filled with his scent. His arm wrapped around my waist, his other hand gently tilting my chin up. His lips brushed against my ear as he whispered, his voice for my ears only.

"Don't worry, I'm here."

Before I could react, he raised his voice, a lazy drawl directed at the door. "Manager, my companion and I are in the middle of some private business. We don't wish to be disturbed."

His hand gave my waist a possessive squeeze.

I sensed hesitation outside, muffled whispers, a nervous cough, the shuffle of feet. They weren't fully convinced.

I pretended to be a couple whose intimate moment had been interrupted, and shouted in a shrill voice utterly unlike my usual tone: "Is this how your hotel handles its guests? Interrupting a couple's private moments? He's my man, and I will not tolerate this harassment. Unless you want a formal complaint lodged against this establishment, I suggest you leave us alone right now!"

The voices outside stopped abruptly. A moment later, I heard the manager's flustered apologies and Warren Stone's disbelieving mutters, then silence.

He released me, but the searing heat of his touch lingered on my waist. I looked up at him, my heart pounding with a mixture of fear and a strange, unfamiliar flutter.

I took a shaky breath. "Thank you," I whispered. "I don't even know your name."

He studied me for a moment, a faint smile playing on his lips. He said simply. "Calvin Sinclair. And you?" I told him my name, but his eyes held a knowing glint that made me uneasy.

He studied me for a long moment, his gaze dropping again to the cheap necklace at my throat. A flicker of recognition, or something like it, crossed his face, but it vanished before I could name it.

Then he gave a slow, deliberate smile, and his voice dropped to a low purr.

"Now, let's talk about the price for breaking into my room, Miss."
