Surrender To CEO's Pure Adoration Chapter 1 Return

In front of a somber building located in A City...

Esther Li had a blank look on her face as she held a woven bag in her hand.

"Esther, is anyone coming to pick you up? Any friends or families?" the policewoman kindly asked. She was the one who walked her out.

Esther Li shook her head and flashed a meek smile. "My boyfriend's working today. I'm afraid he won't be able to pick me up," she said.

Her boyfriend, Murphy Ye, was a typical workaholic. He could have easily forgotten that she went home today. Also, Esther Li's only best friend was grounded by her parents. There was no one else to pick her up.

"Just don't forget about the grievances you've suffered. Just be strong!" the policewoman reminded. She sighed, saying a few more words for Esther Li, before turning around and entering through the building's door.

Confused and lonely, Esther Li slowly paced along the road like a stray bird without anywhere to go.

'Screech!'

A yellow Ferrari sports car suddenly rushed from a distance and stopped right in front of Esther Li. Its break's screeches were so loud that it could possibly damage people's eardrums.

Startled, Esther Li gave her chest light pats to ease her raised heartbeat.

"Ah, Sister! There you are!" When the car door opened, a sleek female greeted Esther. As she stepped out, the woman pretended to be surprised. Her long legs graced towards Esther, and a fake smile threaded its way into her lips.

"Erica?" Esther called. She looked amazed. But Esther eventually calmed down as she vigilantly looked at Erica Li.

Erica Li was Esther's stepsister. She was adopted by Esther's father. Some time later, when Esther was imprisoned because she accidentally injured others while protecting Erica Li, Esther found out that she was really her father's biological child with another woman.

From the beginning up until the end, Esther was only being played by Erica Li. She even framed Esther and charged her with false accusations. The vicious woman totally messed up Esther's life!

After a long time, however, Erica Li slowly matured. She wore a tightly-fitted, sleeveless, silver dress. Her long hair was permed, and her face wore some exquisite makeup, in which her eyes looked really charming.

Usually, when archenemies meet, they almost certainly would want to kill each other. But at this moment, when Esther saw Erica, she didn't feel any emotions towards her.

"I'm so happy to finally see you again, sister," Erica said. She seemed excited, and wiped her cheeks as if tears were rolling down on it.

"Do you expect me to believe you?" Esther sneered. Three years had already passed. Esther was no longer the naive girl that Erica had made her to be. It was because of Erica and her mother that Esther had suffered from severe humiliation.

Erica set her up like that because she wanted to take her place in the Li family and take everything from her.

Now, she had already achieved her goal.

"Sister, why are you still blaming me? Dad was the one who insisted on breaking his relationship with you. He said that he wouldn't recognize you as his daughter now that you've ruined our family's reputation..." Erica looked at Esther with pitiful eyes. But Erica could see her excitement through them.

Esther's chest began to ache. She thought that she was prepared to deal with this--that she wouldn't feel depressed anymore.

But how could she? She had been driven out of her own family even. She hadn't been connected with them ever since the incident happened.

"Mom did everything to change Dad's mind. I begged! But no matter how hard we tried, he wouldn't change his mind. He even hired a lawyer..."

Looking at Erica's exaggerated sad look, Esther suddenly despised herself. Why did she buy Erica's poor acting by then?

"I haven't seen you for three years! What made you come for me now?" Esther asked, indifferent. In her mind, she knew that Erica wasn't here to welcome her.

"We're sisters, after all. Also, I'm marrying Murphy. I wanted to invite you personally," Erica said with a smug look on her face. She took out a red invitation card from her expensive crocodile bag and handed it to Esther.

Esther was overwhelmed with what Erica had just said. She felt like her head was going to explode. As she took two steps back, she almost fell down on the ground.

"You're lying. Murphy is my boyfriend..." Esther said with a weak voice.

It couldn't be possible. How could Murphy Ye give in to Erica and marry her?! Esther tried so hard to calm herself down. She couldn't understand why Erica was torturing her with such an impossible thing. 'Is she just trying to make me miserable?' she thought to herself.

"Esther!" a man's voice called. "What she said is true..." the man continued.

I woke up in my New York penthouse bedroom, sunlight harsh in my eyes. The date on my phone read five years ago, before the fire, before I died. My breath hitched in my throat as I understood: I was reborn. My husband, Ethan, walked in, his voice flat, demanding I authorize a quarter-million dollar transfer from my trust fund. In my first life, that money went to Chloe Sanders, his intern, his mistress. Every painful memory came flooding back: his coldness, his brazen affairs, and finally, him locking me in a remote ski lodge wing as smoke filled the air. He drove away, leaving me to die in the flames. I whispered that I didn't feel well, but he only scoffed, telling me to sign the papers and stop being dramatic. Later, I saw him with Chloe, his tenderness and warm smile solely for her, confirming his betrayal was still ongoing. When I finally confronted him, his hand swung, cracking across my cheek, leaving me stunned and bleeding. He then slammed the door to our bedroom shut, locking me inside, threatening a private care facility, calling me "unhinged." The injustice burned, fueling a cold fury deeper than fear. Was this my cruel fate, to relive the same nightmare with the same monster? Why had I been given a second chance, only to face his baseless accusations and violence once more? This time, I wouldn't just endure his cruelty; I would break free. As I sent a coded message to my parents, my escape plan was in motion, and my fight for freedom had truly begun.

The last thing I remembered was the cold, sterile operating room. A sharp pain tore through my abdomen, and my husband Ethan's chilling indifference burned into me. "Sign it, Ethan! The doctor says she's bleeding out. They need to perform the surgery to save her!" I screamed, my voice distant and desperate. But he wouldn't. He stood there, arms crossed, saying, "The doctor said there's a risk to the baby. I can't risk my daughter's life." "There won't be a daughter if I die!" I countered, agony blurring my vision. "The baby can't survive if I don't!" Then, my six-year-old stepson, Liam, holding Ethan's hand, pointed at me. "Dad, Sophia said this woman is just faking it. She said if she dies, Sophia can be my new mom and take care of you and the baby." His words hit harder than any physical pain. My own stepson, a child I'd raised since he was two, was wishing for my death. Ethan didn't scold him. He squeezed Liam' s shoulder in silent agreement as Sophia Davis, Liam's beautiful young tutor, stepped into view with a triumphant smirk. They never signed the papers. I bled out on that operating table, my last sight the three of them-Ethan, Liam, and Sophia-already looking like a happy family. A sharp gasp snapped me awake. My eyes flew open. I was in my own bed, morning sun streaming through the silk curtains. My hand went to my stomach. It was still there, a gentle, rounded swell. My baby girl was safe. I grabbed my phone. The date confirmed it: today was the day my life unraveled. The day Liam brought Sophia home. I hadn't died. I was back. The memory of my death wasn't a dream. It was a searing brand, a horrifying premonition. The betrayal, the pain, the cold finality-all of it clear as day. A wave of nausea washed over me, not from pregnancy, but from cold, hard fury. They would not kill me this time. They would not harm my daughter. This time, I would make them pay for a crime they hadn't committed yet. Just then, the doorbell rang. I heard the housekeeper, then Liam's excited chatter. My heart turned to ice. It was starting.

The memory was a ghost that never left my apartment. It played on a loop: Sarah, glowing on screen, cheering fans, my game "Aetheria" about to launch. "Five more minutes, baby," she' d whispered, "And the world will see what a genius you are. I' ll make sure of it." I believed her. I poured everything into "Aetheria," my masterpiece. Sarah, the biggest streamer, was my partner, promising a massive launch. But when her stream hit zero, not "Aetheria," but "Chrono Rift," a cheap clone, filled the screen. Then her voice, slick and commercial, declared, "THIS is the game of the year. 'Chrono Rift' is here!" The betrayal was immediate. She savaged my game: "A little birdie told me 'Aetheria' is a buggy, unplayable mess. Don' t waste your money. The developer is in way over his head." The world broke. Months later, surrounded by final notice bills, I heard her on the news. "Chrono Rift" sold ten million units. Mark, its developer, wrapped an arm around her, speaking of their "stable future." I later learned of their affair, their secret deal. My ruin was their business expense. Why? How could she? The woman I loved, my partner, had systematically destroyed me for profit. Clicking off the TV, I saw an old hard drive labeled "Nexus," my abandoned first project. Plugging it in, I saw a strange line of code, a "developer' s blessing," reminding me of boundless creativity. A jolt. I would rebuild. I started "Aetheria 2.0." Their castle of glass stood, but I was gathering stones.

I was four months pregnant, weighing over two hundred pounds, and my heart was failing from experimental treatments forced on me as a child. My doctor looked at me with clinical detachment and told me I was in a death sentence: if I kept the baby, I would die, and if I tried to remove it, I would die. Desperate for a lifeline, I called my father, Francis Acosta, to tell him I was sick and pregnant. I expected a father's love, but all I got was a cold, sharp blade of a voice. "Then do it quietly," he said. "Don't embarrass Candi. Her debutante ball is coming up." He didn't just reject me; he erased me. My trust fund was frozen, and I was told I was no longer an Acosta. My fiancé, Auston, had already discarded me, calling me a "bloated whale" while he looked for a thinner, wealthier replacement. I left New York on a Greyhound bus, weeping into a bag of chips, a broken woman the world considered a mistake. I couldn't understand how my own father could tell me to die "quietly" just to save face for a party. I didn't know why I had been a lab rat for my family’s pharmaceutical ambitions, or how they could sleep at night while I was left to rot in the gray drizzle of the city. Five years later, the doors of JFK International Airport slid open. I stepped onto the marble floor in red-soled stilettos, my body lean, lethal, and carved from years of blood and sweat. I wasn't the "whale" anymore; I was a ghost coming back to haunt them. With my daughter by my side and a medical reputation that terrified the global elite, I was ready to dismantle the Acosta empire piece by piece. "Tell Francis to wash his neck," I whispered to the skyline. "I'm home."

The rain in Detroit was slick with grime when my family finally came to fetch me. They didn't want a reunion; they wanted a sacrificial lamb to marry into the Kaufman empire to save their failing business. I thought I was just being sold off, but the limo ride ended under a dark overpass where six hired thugs were waiting with chains. My own sister had ordered them to "break my spirit" so I’d be a shaking, pathetic mess by the time I reached the altar. They called me "Detroit trash" and sprayed air freshener when I sat on their leather seats. My stepmother wanted a video of me begging for my life, and my father was ready to trade me like a used car to a man everyone called a "vegetable." They expected a submissive country girl, unaware that I was a high-level "cleaner" who could snap a radius bone before they could even scream. When I finally reached the Kaufman estate, I found my fiancé, Barron, slumped in a wheelchair, drooling and silent. But as soon as the doors closed, the "invalid" grabbed my wrist with a grip of iron and whispered a command that changed everything. I didn't understand why my own blood was so desperate to see me destroyed. What had I ever done to deserve a hit squad and a forced marriage to a man they thought was a corpse? But Barron isn't a vegetable, and I'm not a victim. We just touched down at the Moon family gala in a matte-black helicopter, and as the doors slide open, the "broken" bride is about to show them exactly what happens when you throw away the wrong daughter. "If we're going to crash a party," Barron whispered, his eyes burning with lethal clarity, "we should make an entrance."

I woke up on silk sheets that smelled of expensive cedar and cold sandalwood, a world away from my cramped apartment in Brooklyn. Beside me lay Ezra Gardner—my boss, the billionaire CEO of Gardner Holdings, and the man who could end my career with a snap of his fingers. He didn’t offer an apology for the night before; instead, he looked at me with terrifying clarity and proposed a cold, calculated business arrangement. "Marriage. It stabilizes the board and solves the PR crisis before it begins." He dressed me in archival Chanel and sent me home in his Maybach, but my life was already falling apart. My boyfriend, Irving, claimed he had passed out early, yet his location data placed him at my best friend’s apartment until three in the morning. When I tried to run, I realized Ezra was already ten steps ahead, tracking my movements and uncovering the secret I’d spent twenty years hiding: my connection to the powerful Senator Grimes. I was trapped between a CEO who treated me like a line item on a quarterly report and a boyfriend who had been using me while sleeping with my closest friend. I felt like a pawn in a game I didn't understand, wondering why a man like Ezra would walk up forty flights of stairs on a broken leg just to make sure I was safe. "Showtime, Mrs. Gardner." Standing on the red carpet in a gown that cost more than my life, I watched my cheating ex-boyfriend’s face turn pale as Ezra claimed me in front of the world. I wasn't just an assistant anymore; I was a weapon, and it was time to burn their world down.

The heavy thud of the release stamp was the only goodbye I got from the warden after five years in federal prison. I stepped out into the blinding sun, expecting the same flash of paparazzi bulbs that had seen me dragged away in handcuffs, but there was only a single black limousine idling on the shoulder of the road. Inside sat my mother and sister, clutching champagne and looking at my frayed coat with pure disgust. They didn't offer a welcome home; instead, they tossed a thick legal document onto the table and told me I was dead to the city. "Gavin and I are getting engaged," my sister Mia sneered, flicking a credit card at me like I was a stray dog. "He doesn't need a convict ex-fiancée hanging around." Even after I saved their lives from an armed kidnapping attempt by ramming the attackers off the road, they rewarded me by leaving me stranded in the dirt. When I finally ran into Gavin, the man who had framed me, he pinned me against a wall and threatened to send me back to a cell if I ever dared to show my face at their wedding. They had stolen my biotech research, ruined my name, and let me rot for half a decade while they lived off my brilliance. They thought they had broken me, leaving me with nothing but an expired chapstick and a few old photos in a plastic bag. What they didn't know was that I had spent those five years becoming "Dr. X," a shadow consultant with five hundred million dollars in crypto and a secret that would bring the city to its knees. I wasn't just a victim anymore; I was a weapon, and I was pregnant with the heir they thought they had erased. I walked into the Melton estate and made an offer to the most powerful man in New York. "I'll save your grandfather's life," I told Horatio Melton, staring him down. "But the price is your last name. I'm taking back what's mine, and I'm starting with the man who thinks he's marrying my sister."
