Chapter 1 Fury (Part One)

The strong aroma of caffeine pervaded the air. Louie Ling was sitting by the window, drinking coffee with Amelia Fang when she saw the man. He walked towards their table.

She exclaimed, "Nelson! Is it really you?"

The man was dressed in casual clothes. He smiled at them and said,

"Louie, Amelia. Haven't seen you two in three years. You ladies have become more beautiful than ever."

'Beautiful, huh?' Louie Ling thought.

She waved to the waiter not far away from them, and then turned to look at Nelson Ning with a playful smile. "If I remember correctly, that's the word you use to praise every woman you pass by!"

"Oh, yes! I remember it too! He used it once on the old lady in charge of dormitory, and was almost driven out with a broom!"

Amelia Fang recalled with a frown. Seeing the serious look on her, Louie Ling smiled more brightly.

Nelson Ning kept in toe with the two beauties' teasing, and the topic naturally shifted to their past.

It was late autumn and the night was extraordinarily cold; the air around smelled of loneliness.

It was not until dark that Louie Ling returned home. The luxurious, high-end villa was her exquisite prison, where she was kept imprisoned willingly.

Imprisoned in a lonely marriage...

Auntie Zhang was on leave that night, and she was the only one left in the dreary prison. After taking a shower, she climbed into her bed.

The loud ring of the doorbell cut through the silence in the villa. With a frown, Louie Ling reached out for her phone to check the time.

After hesitating for a moment, she got out of bed and walked out of the bedroom. She slowly climbed down the stairs. Looking through the living room's mirrored door, she saw the familiar face.

She opened the door and heard the sharp voice. "Took you long enough! Were you trying to freeze me to death?"

Charles Liang's eyes were full of anger, and the pungent smell of alcohol filled the air between them.

Louie Ling frowned without looking into his angry eyes. She covered her mouth and nose with one hand and said coldly,

"Why do you have to always come in the middle of the night?"

Saying so, she turned around to leave.

"Stop!"

the man growled and reached out to grab Louie Ling's thin shoulder. Since she had been in bed earlier, she was only wearing a silk pajama. She struggled, trying to get out of the rude man's grasp. She cursed,

"Are you crazy? You are hurting me!"

Instead of letting go, he exerted more strength on her shoulder and dug his nails into her frail skin. A sharp pain shot through her shoulder and Louie Ling let out an involuntary groan before tightening her lips shut.

He forcefully pulled down her hand that was covering her mouth and nose. Charles Liang asked in a cold, hoarse voice, "Do I make you sick, Louie?"

The poor woman trembled and looked up into his mad eyes. His dark orbs made her feel inexplicably cold. But with a sneer on her lips, she said in an indifferent, ethereal tone,

"Please, could you find something new to do? This drunken madness is getting too old, okay?"

A gust of cold wind blew through the open door. A flicker of unidentifiable emotion flashed across the man's eyes, and his condescending gaze was fixed on Louie Ling. Her cold eyes stared back at him in defiance, but this cold woman had been smiling at another man this afternoon. It was exceedingly fascinating.

A surge of pure anger rose from the bottom of his heart and instantly pumped through every cell in his body. Taken over by this whopping feelings of hatred and anger, he pulled the woman into his arms. With a sneer, he lowered his head and kissed her lips.

"Hmm!"

There was nothing but muffled protests. The strong smell of alcohol invaded her nose, and her stomach churned as bile rose up her throat. Louie Ling pushed the drunken man away from her with all the strength she could muster and ran towards the living room.

Charles Liang staggered backwards, losing his balance-powerful push from such a frail woman. He grabbed on to the iron door quickly before falling to the ground.

Looking up, he realized that Louie Ling had already disappeared from his sight. In the dim light, his shadow seemed long and lonely.

When Charles Liang walked into the living room, he heard the vomiting sounds from the bathroom, followed by the sound of running water. The anger in his eyes did not fade at all.

This was the third time. Every time he kissed her while he was drunk, she would throw up rudely to show her disgust. She was a weak woman, but somehow her strength greatly increase during times like these. Tonight, he was prepared for it, but she still managed to shove him.

Exhausted, Charles Liang dropped onto the sofa. Squinting slightly, he counted to three in his mind. The bathroom door opened. Wiping her mouth, Louie Ling walked towards the sofa. Her expression was different, a little better. She looked at him and asked indifferently, "Did you have dinner yet? I'll cook some noodles for you. Auntie Zhang is not home."

Charles Liang slowly opened his eyes; a faint fragrance emanated from her. His deep eyes turned sharp once again. He looked around the house and asked in a low growl, "Did you go out today?"

A hint of doubt flashed across her eyes. Louie remembered the feeling she had had while she was in the cafe that afternoon-the sharp chill she had felt from behind her... 'It was not an illusion after all. Is he spying on me now, or was it really just a coincidence?' she wondered.

"Yes. I was bored at home, so I went to have some coffee. I bought some scented tea from the supermarket. If you want some, you can make it yourself."

Charles Liang frowned and changed the topic. "I don't want instant noodles. I want fried rice with eggs! Put some tomatoes in it. No carrots." After a pause, he continued,

"Prepare some hot water and get me some fresh clothes. I need to take a shower first. I don't want you vomiting in the kitchen."

Biting her lip, she turned around and went upstairs to find his pajamas, ignoring his mockery.

By the time Charles came out of the bathroom, Louie had made the fried rice, just as he had asked.

Under the soft light, he saw that her usual cold face was a little softer. Her plain pajamas didn't reveal anything; it was a size bigger and she fit in comfortably.

He looked around and saw that she was watching TV intently.

Charles whispered to himself, "Stupid woman."

Recently, Louie had been infatuated with the TV play, "I love you". Wallace Chung perfectly performed the overbearing and infatuated Master Murray, and their love was touching, yet distressing.

She had already watched it several times and had cried as many times. Every time she thought of the play, she felt sad and sentimental. There really were so many things in life which were just too late to do, and people too late to love!

"Get me the hair dryer," Charles ordered, languidly walking towards the sofa. He unwrapped the towel to wipe his hair, which was wet and messy. Several strands of short hair fell over his forehead, which gave him an evil, attractive look.

For two years, I was the invisible force behind tech billionaire Kieran Douglas, convinced that our "private" romance was his way of protecting us from the tabloid spotlight. I managed his mergers, warmed his bed, and waited for a future that didn't exist. The illusion shattered at 6:00 AM when a Page Six alert debuted Kieran’s "real" romance with socialite Aspen Schneider. Before I could even process the betrayal, Kieran sent me a cold, professional text: "Order flowers for Aspen. Pink peonies. Her favorite." When I tried to walk away, my own mother called me a disgrace and threatened to lock my inheritance forever unless I married a sixty-year-old businessman to save her failing estate. At a high-society gala that same night, Aspen intentionally crushed my burned hand in front of the cameras, while Kieran stood by and dismissed me as a "mediocre assistant" who had overstayed her welcome. I stood in the cold New York rain, drenched in champagne and humiliation, realizing that every sacrifice I made for Kieran was a joke. I was a ghost in a penthouse that was never mine, discarded the moment his "soulmate" returned. To the world, I was just a placeholder whose time had run out. But Kieran forgot one thing: my father’s multi-million dollar trust fund unlocks the moment I legally marry. I didn't need love; I needed a signature and a shield. I walked into a discreet law firm and signed a marriage contract with a man I believed was the city’s most notorious, scandal-ridden playboy. I thought I was marrying a degenerate "beard" to buy my freedom and secure my revenge. I didn't realize the man who signed that paper wasn't a playboy at all, but Gaston Collins—the most powerful and dangerous man on Wall Street—and he had no intention of letting our fake marriage stay fake.

I returned to the Hamptons after six years, believing I had finally outrun the ghosts of my past. As a surgeon, I had spent years stitching others back together, yet I remained a collection of jagged shards held together by secrets. I thought I could survive one family dinner, but the moment I stepped inside, the air turned to lead. Then I saw him. Damon Hansen stood in the archway, looking more lethal than the man I’d once loved. When our eyes met, he shattered the crystal glass in his hand with such raw force that blood stained the pristine rug. It was a silent, violent declaration of the rage he’d been nursing since the night I vanished without a word. The dinner was a battlefield. Damon sat across from me with his new girlfriend, Campbell, draped possessively over his arm. He used every word like a blade, mocking my "escape" while secretly ordering the only food I could stomach. He didn't know that I hadn't just run away six years ago; I had crawled away to survive a miscarriage that nearly took my life, a trauma that still made my hands shake at the sight of a child. I fled to Seattle for a clean slate, only to find Damon waiting in the rain. He had traded his business empire for a firefighter’s uniform, joining the city's most dangerous station just to force his way back into my world. When he ended up on my trauma table, soot-stained and broken, he gripped my wrist with a heat that almost broke my resolve. "I'm yours, Adria. Do whatever you have to do." I almost let my walls crumble until the hospital doors swung open. Campbell burst out, throwing herself into his arms and claiming him in front of the entire staff. I didn't stay to hear his excuses. I turned my back on the man who had followed me across the country just to break my heart again, finally realizing that some wounds are too deep for even a surgeon to heal.

For ten years, I lived as a powerless Omega, my only joy being my brilliant daughter, Michelle. I had bound my true nature—a powerful White Wolf—to protect her from my family's enemies. When she won a coveted internship at the International Council, I thought our quiet life was finally secure. But a week later, I found her crumpled in a corner of her school, bound by silver ropes that burned her skin. Her dreams were being torn apart by Lacey, the daughter of our pack's Alpha. "This little nobody thought she could steal my spot," Lacey sneered. "The internship my Alpha father secured for me." My world shattered. The Alpha was my husband, Vincent—my fated mate of ten years. When I reached out to him through our sacred bond, he dismissed my panic with sweet lies, even as I watched Lacey and her friends torture our child for sport. The ultimate betrayal came when his mistress, Ivy, flashed the Alpha's Mate card—"my" card, which he had given to her. He arrived only to deny knowing me in front of everyone, a sin that shattered our bond. He called me a trespasser and ordered his warriors to punish me. As they forced me to my knees and beat me with silver, he just stood and watched. But they all underestimated me. They didn't know about the amulet I'd given my daughter, or the ancient power it held. As the final blow landed, I whispered a name into a hidden channel, calling in an oath my family made generations ago. Seconds later, military helicopters swarmed the building, and the High Council Guard stormed the room, bowing to me. "Luna Harper," their commander announced, "The High Council Guard is at your command."

Today is October 14th, my birthday. I returned to New York after months away, dragging my suitcase through the biting wind, but the VIP pickup zone where my husband’s Maybach usually idled was empty. When I finally let myself into our Upper East Side penthouse, I didn’t find a cake or a "welcome home" banner. Instead, I found my husband, Caden, kneeling on the floor, helping our five-year-old daughter wrap a massive gift for my half-sister, Adalynn. Caden didn’t even look up when I walked in; he was too busy laughing with the girl who had already stolen my father’s legacy and was now moving in on my family. "Auntie Addie is a million times better than Mommy," my daughter Elara chirped, clutching a plush toy Caden had once forbidden me from buying for her. "Mommy is mean," she whispered loudly, while Caden just smirked, calling me a "drill sergeant" before whisking her off to Adalynn’s party without a second glance. Later that night, I saw a video Adalynn posted online where my husband and child laughed while mocking my "sensitive" nature, treating me like an inconvenient ghost in my own home. I had spent five years researching nutrition for Elara’s health and managing every detail of Caden’s empire, only to be discarded the moment I wasn't in the room. How could the man who set his safe combination to my birthday completely forget I even existed? The realization didn't break me; it turned me into ice. I didn't scream or beg for an explanation. I simply walked into the study, pulled out the divorce papers I’d drafted months ago, and took a black marker to the terms. I crossed out the alimony, the mansion, and even the custody clause—if they wanted a life without me, I would give them exactly what they asked for. I left my four-carat diamond ring on the console table and walked out into the rain with nothing but a heavily encrypted hard drive. The submissive Mrs. Holloway was gone, and "Ghost," the most lethal architect in the tech world, was finally back online to take back everything they thought I’d forgotten.

The sterile white of the operating room blurred, then sharpened, as Skye Sterling felt the cold clawing its way up her body. The heart monitor flatlined, a steady, high-pitched whine announcing her end. Her uterus had been removed, a desperate attempt to stop the bleeding, but the blood wouldn't clot. It just kept flowing, warm and sticky, pooling beneath her. Through heavy eyes, she saw a trembling nurse holding a phone on speaker. "Mr. Kensington," the nurse's voice cracked, "your wife... she's critical." A pause, then a sweet, poisonous giggle. Seraphina Miller. "Liam is in the shower," Seraphina's voice purred. "Stop calling, Skye. It's pathetic. Faking a medical emergency on our anniversary? Even for you, that's low." Then, Liam's bored voice: "If she dies, call the funeral home. I have a meeting in the morning." Click. The line went dead. A second later, so did Skye. The darkness that followed was absolute, suffocating, a black ocean crushing her lungs. She screamed into the void, a silent, agonizing wail of regret for loving a man who saw her as a nuisance, for dying without ever truly living. Until she died, she didn't understand. Why was her life so tragically wasted? Why did her husband, the man she loved, abandon her so cruelly? The injustice of it all burned hotter than the fever in her body. Then, the air rushed back in. Skye gasped, her body convulsing violently on the mattress. Her eyes flew open, wide and terrified, staring blindly into the darkness. Her trembling hand reached for her phone. May 12th. Five years ago. She was back.
