As a football champion in high school, Joel was loved for his talents and abilities but, unknown to the watchful eyes, he was Poor. Estelle, the girl from a wealthy home never cared. But what happens when her wealthy family disowns her because of him, and someone from the past comes in, coupled with Joel's secrets? Things might not just be as they seem...

Chapter 1 Prologue

Joel walked out of his office with his heart in his patch. The last person he wants to see is the one he has been informed wants to meet with him and he won't dare refuse to see him. It's been about a month since that incident and he was promoted because of what his boss did with his wife.

A promotion he should have out rightly rejected but instead, decides to accept, to help him cascade with his plans. He needs a few more days to execute this plan and the last thing he wants is any complication.

He pushes the door open without knocking and sitting on the dark brown leather swivel chair with a disgusting smile is Anthony. Joel doesn't understand why he didn't kill him the moment he found out. Perhaps a quick death is too good for someone like him. People like this do not deserve death. They deserve to suffer and die slowly.

Anthony's mouth curved into an evil smile when Joel walks in but his attention was on his wife, Estelle. She was engrossed in whatever she was doing and gave a quick sheepish smile when she saw her husband walk in. Things have never been the same since that day and when she wanted to quit the job, Joel told her to continue working in the same office where she committed her evil crime. She sees it as torture to her soul.

She doesn't remember much of it but she takes full responsibility for her actions. She pretends not to listen to whatever conversation they have but she knew it wasn't something that will go so well. She swallowed bitter pills by revealing a truth that should have been kept hidden. For the second time, she has disappointed the man who adored and worshipped her like a goddess.

"It's good to see you, Joel," Anthony said, offering him a visitor's chair across his desk. "Coffee, Tea, what will you like?" Estelle knows how you like it." He said in a mocking tone. Joel stood there and tried to control his fury in the best way he could. His hands were rolled into a ball and his face was dark. He clenched his jaw to prevent any word from coming out to ruin the plan he has worked so hard to execute.

"If you don't mind, I will go straight to business. I don't have time for pleasantries. As you can see, I am a very busy man." Joel said coldly, frozen to the ground on which he stood. He never moved an inch from the door when he walked in.

"Since you are the type that likes to move straight to action without foreplay, I think it's the reason why she enjoyed my advances," he said stealing lustful glances at Estelle. Estelle shifted uncomfortably in her chair when and stole a glance at Joel. She has never seen him in this state throughout the time they have known each other. She knew what she did is the worst form of betrayal and can't blame Joel for his actions but she couldn't understand why Joel decided to be quiet. She knew he could stand up to their boss. Maybe she didn't know him as much as she thinks she does.

"The meeting here is simple." He said, his face contouring to seriousness. "The truth is, it was never her fault. She didn't know I slipped something in the coffee she drank." He said with fake remorse. He enjoyed what he did but is faking it. Estelle shifts slightly in her swivel chair and moves her hands from the keyboard, closing her laptop and giving the conversation, her full attention. It all makes sense. She knew in her heart that there was something fishy but since she couldn't bring herself to remember, she took all responsibility. If he wasn't her boss, she would have slapped him. She was filled with rage.

"I am sorry for what I did to your wife. As compensation, take this cheque of ten billion dollars. If you leave your wife, I will marry her. If you can't leave her, then we have to share because the baby she is carrying is mine. You have three days to think about this." His boss said those words as if they meant nothing but three days, which was all Joel needed, to execute his plan......

I watched my husband sign the papers that would end our marriage while he was busy texting the woman he actually loved. He didn't even glance at the header. He just scribbled the sharp, jagged signature that had signed death warrants for half of New York, tossed the file onto the passenger seat, and tapped his screen again. "Done," he said, his voice devoid of emotion. That was Dante Moretti. The Underboss. A man who could smell a lie from a mile away but couldn't see that his wife had just handed him an annulment decree disguised beneath a stack of mundane logistics reports. For three years, I scrubbed his blood out of his shirts. I saved his family's alliance when his ex, Sofia, ran off with a civilian. In return, he treated me like furniture. He left me in the rain to save Sofia from a broken nail. He left me alone on my birthday to drink champagne on a yacht with her. He even handed me a glass of whiskey—her favorite drink—forgetting that I despised the taste. I was merely a placeholder. A ghost in my own home. So, I stopped waiting. I burned our wedding portrait in the fireplace, left my platinum ring in the ashes, and boarded a one-way flight to San Francisco. I thought I was finally free. I thought I had escaped the cage. But I underestimated Dante. When he finally opened that file weeks later and realized he had signed away his wife without looking, the Reaper didn't accept defeat. He burned down the world to find me, obsessed with reclaiming the woman he had already thrown away.

Today is October 14th, my birthday. I returned to New York after months away, dragging my suitcase through the biting wind, but the VIP pickup zone where my husband’s Maybach usually idled was empty. When I finally let myself into our Upper East Side penthouse, I didn’t find a cake or a "welcome home" banner. Instead, I found my husband, Caden, kneeling on the floor, helping our five-year-old daughter wrap a massive gift for my half-sister, Adalynn. Caden didn’t even look up when I walked in; he was too busy laughing with the girl who had already stolen my father’s legacy and was now moving in on my family. "Auntie Addie is a million times better than Mommy," my daughter Elara chirped, clutching a plush toy Caden had once forbidden me from buying for her. "Mommy is mean," she whispered loudly, while Caden just smirked, calling me a "drill sergeant" before whisking her off to Adalynn’s party without a second glance. Later that night, I saw a video Adalynn posted online where my husband and child laughed while mocking my "sensitive" nature, treating me like an inconvenient ghost in my own home. I had spent five years researching nutrition for Elara’s health and managing every detail of Caden’s empire, only to be discarded the moment I wasn't in the room. How could the man who set his safe combination to my birthday completely forget I even existed? The realization didn't break me; it turned me into ice. I didn't scream or beg for an explanation. I simply walked into the study, pulled out the divorce papers I’d drafted months ago, and took a black marker to the terms. I crossed out the alimony, the mansion, and even the custody clause—if they wanted a life without me, I would give them exactly what they asked for. I left my four-carat diamond ring on the console table and walked out into the rain with nothing but a heavily encrypted hard drive. The submissive Mrs. Holloway was gone, and "Ghost," the most lethal architect in the tech world, was finally back online to take back everything they thought I’d forgotten.
