The bread knife stuck in Jon doe's chest had an unusual pattern, I grabbed a camera from the nearest person and clicked a few pictures of the design "Email them to me." I said as I was handing the camera back to them. It looked ancient and rare, not the usual bread knives you'd find at our local stores here in Seattle. I looked up to find a detective watching my every move, it seemed that his one side of the face looked sunken in, similarly, you only see this in people who don't have teeth, which prompted me to look into his mouth, to find that all of his teeth had been pulled out. I sighed loudly and said, "well, here goes our identification route of checking dental records, this body was left in the hopes that no identification will be made!" Craning my neck to have a look at the coroner who had just arrived on the scene, I recalled working with her once before on another case when I first started as a rookie, Dr. Leslie Adams is an expert in her field and one of the most professional and efficient woman. She looked down at me and stated "Detective Rush you do know that the body you are looking at has been dead for more than 3 days, and also looks as if it was stored in a body freezer before being planted at this scene." I shook my head and realized that this is getting more intense by the second, "I hadn't realized so Doc, that's the reason we have you here, to help me solve the mystery "- I said whilst walking up to her, I held out my hand and gave her hand a firm handshake.

Chapter 1 PROLOGUE

It all started in the summer of 2018, with the mysterious disappearance of the two wealthiest men in Seattle.

As written by Seattle Daily, "An unidentified body was found in the apartment of the richest most eligible bachelors in Seattle, The Hudson brothers who at this point are presumed the main suspects in this investigation whose whereabouts are currently unknown.."

The blonde beauty sipped on her morning coffee while reading Seattle Daily, Downing the rest of her liquid drug in one huge gulp, she tied up her long blonde curls into a bun at the top of her head while sighing, two missing billionaires to find and a murder case to solve, just another day at the office.

It has been exactly 24 hours since Grayson and James Hudson have been missing and a dead body has been found in their penthouse. The circumstances around their suspicious sudden disappearance make it even more of a challenge to work on finding their spoiled asses, keeping all information on the down-low has been the biggest challenge thus far. The media are like hungry lions waiting to pounce on any small piece of information.

"Detective Rush, I'd like to have a word with you in my office" The Captain of the Seattle police department had been leaning on the side of my desk while giving me an indescribable look. I gave him a sharp nod and closed up my files which contain all of Hudson's information.

I knocked lightly on the door, making my presence known before stepping in through the semi-opened wooden door. The atmosphere of the office was tense and sat in the office was Captain Braugher along with Lieutenant Jackson. I greeted both of them, "Please have a seat, Jessica" said the Captain in an anxious voice, hearing the tone of his voice had me sitting faster than a blink of an eye.

I directed my attention to the huge whiteboard on the far left wall off the office and on it were pictures of the dead body in the Hudson brothers' apartment, along with pictures of the Hudson men and their staff. Those who were with the Hudson men last before their disappearance were circled blue which meant they will be called in first for questioning and they would be monitored on our radar 24/7, actually everyone who has ever associated themselves with the Hudson men in the last two weeks before their sudden disappearances is on our suspect list.

Everyone is considered a suspect until proven otherwise.

I died on a Tuesday. It wasn't a quick death. It was slow, cold, and meticulously planned by the man who called himself my father. I was twenty years old. He needed my kidney to save my sister. The spare part for the golden child. I remember the blinding lights of the operating theater, the sterile smell of betrayal, and the phantom pain of a surgeon's scalpel carving into my flesh while my screams echoed unheard. I remember looking through the observation glass and seeing him-my father, Giovanni Vitiello, the Don of the Chicago Outfit-watching me die with the same detached expression he used when signing a death warrant. He chose her. He always chose her. And then, I woke up. Not in heaven. Not in hell. But in my own bed, a year before my scheduled execution. My body was whole, unscarred. The timeline had reset, a glitch in the cruel matrix of my existence, giving me a second chance I never asked for. This time, when my father handed me a one-way ticket to London-an exile disguised as a severance package-I didn't cry. I didn't beg. My heart, once a bleeding wound, was now a block of ice. He didn't know he was talking to a ghost. He didn't know I had already lived through his ultimate betrayal. He also didn't know that six months ago, during the city's brutal territory wars, I was the one who saved his most valuable asset. In a secret safe house, I stitched up the wounds of a blinded soldier, a man whose life hung by a thread. He never saw my face. He only knew my voice, the scent of vanilla, and the steady touch of my hands. He called me Sette. Seven. For the seven stitches I put in his shoulder. That man was Dante Moretti. The Ruthless Capo. The man my sister, Isabella, is now set to marry. She stole my story. She claimed my actions, my voice, my scent. And Dante, the man who could spot a lie from a mile away, believed the beautiful deception because he wanted it to be true. He wanted the golden girl to be his savior, not the invisible sister who was only ever good for her spare parts. So I took the ticket. In my past life, I fought them, and they silenced me on an operating table. This time, I will let them have their perfect, gilded lie. I will go to London. I will disappear. I will let Seraphina Vitiello die on that plane. But I will not be a victim. This time, I will not be the lamb led to slaughter. This time, from the shadows of my exile, I will be the one holding the match. And I will wait, with the patience of the dead, to watch their entire world burn. Because a ghost has nothing to lose, and a queen of ashes has an empire to gain.

I sat on the cold tile floor of our Upper East Side penthouse, staring at the two pink lines until my vision blurred. After ten years of loving Julian Sterling and three years of a hollow marriage, I finally had the one thing that could bridge the distance between us. I was pregnant. But Julian didn't come home with flowers for our anniversary. He tossed a thick manila envelope onto the marble coffee table with a heavy thud. Fiona, the woman he'd truly loved for years, was back in New York, and he told me our "business deal" was officially over. "Sign it," He said, his voice flat and devoid of emotion. He looked at me with the cold detachment of a man selling a piece of unwanted furniture. When I hesitated, he told me to add a zero to the alimony if the money wasn't enough. I realized in that moment that if he knew about the baby, he wouldn't love me; he would simply take my child and give it to Fiona to raise. I shoved the pregnancy test into my pocket, signed the papers with a shaking hand, and lied through my teeth. When my morning sickness hit, I slumped to the floor to hide the truth. "It's just cramps," I gasped, watching him recoil as if I were contagious. To make him stay away, I invented a man named Jack-a fake boyfriend who supposedly gave me the kindness Julian never could. Suddenly, the man who wanted me gone became a monster of possessiveness. He threatened to "bury" a man who didn't exist while leaving me humiliated at his family's dinner to rush to Fiona's side. I was so broken that I even ate a cake I was deathly allergic to, then had to refuse life-saving steroids at the hospital because they would harm the fetus. Julian thinks he's stalling the divorce for two months to protect the family's reputation for his father's Jubilee. He thinks he's keeping his "property" on a short leash until the press dies down. He has no idea I'm using those sixty days to build a fortress for my child. By the time he realizes the truth, I'll be gone, and the Sterling heir will be far beyond his reach.
