"If you want to save your beloved Aai from the clutches of death, then you will have to marry me," he grinned evilly. "There is no way that I am going to marry someone like you," her eyes depicted pure anger and hatred. "Are you sure? Because your one decision can save your dead husband's mother from dying, love," he chuckled. The life of a twenty-year-old widow turned upside down because a Mafia and his Nephew got obsessed with her. Well, this time it was something different because one loved her while the other hated her. But one thing was sure, her fate was going to change forever and she wouldn't stop before she changes their fate. But along these, their story wasn't dependant on hate and love, it was much more than that. Their lives contained mystery, dark secrets, hatred, betrayal, and above all, toxicity. Will they be able to thrive among the chaos or would they submit to it?

The Mafia And The Widow Chapter 1 Prologue

"Kiara M Thakre, I am going to destroy you, bit by bit and pieces by pieces. You have brought the beast in me and this beast won't rest until it devours you, this is my promise to you," he growled as he burnt a picture of the girl he swore to destroy.

"You know Mukul, I love you from the depth of my heart. I can't dare to dream a life without you," she mumbled as she embraced him in her arms tightly.

"But, I have to go, Kiara, I do not have any other options," he spoke in a dull yet concerning tone.

"How can you decide to stay away from me? How can you separate yourself from me?" She sobbed as she looked at him.

"Who told you we are getting separated? Can I ever stay away from you? And if I do that will any of us survive? Baby, we are one soul merged in two bodies, we can't seperate baby, we are one. I will always be in you and you will reside in me," he spoke, looking deep in her eyes. Those words comforted her oddly, it gave her the warmth and peace, that she craved for, even after being alone.

He clasped her hairs tightly and pulled it hard. Her head started throbbing due to pain and tears started pouring down her eyes. The pain she felt was unbearable. She had never gone through such a physical assault in her life, and now somewhere deep down, it was now making her weak, trying to compel herself to plead for his forgiveness and asking him to leave her. But there was no way she was going to do that. She couldn't disrespect herseld or the man she loves the most by bowing to someone wrong, most possibly a criminal. But the pain wasn't letting her think anymore.

"Be careful about the words you chose to speak. You don't know what harm your sweet words can cause you right now," he grinned as he pulled her hairs more tightly.

She wasn't able to bear that pain anymore, she cried out, trying her best to get out of the ropes and then push him away to free herself from him. But she was weak, so weak that she couldn't do anything.

"Leave me," she cried out, "or else kill me, but there is no way I would bear anything wrong happening to me," she blurted out in pain as she looked at him.

His eyes fell on her and it felt like he was searching for something in her eyes. Even she was sure, he was looking for fear in her eyes, but no, why would she be scared when she knows that she isn't wrong?

"Aren't you scared of me?" He asked her in a threatening tone.

"Why should I be?" She groaned and the next moment, he left her hairs.

He looked at her, searching for the non-existent fear in her eyes and the next moment, he smirked.

"But you will now," he chuckled and then walked towards her.

She could feel him getting close to her and at that moment, she found herself heating up due to fear.

"So now, will you rape me?" She muttered, looking at him.

The sterile white of the operating room blurred, then sharpened, as Skye Sterling felt the cold clawing its way up her body. The heart monitor flatlined, a steady, high-pitched whine announcing her end. Her uterus had been removed, a desperate attempt to stop the bleeding, but the blood wouldn't clot. It just kept flowing, warm and sticky, pooling beneath her. Through heavy eyes, she saw a trembling nurse holding a phone on speaker. "Mr. Kensington," the nurse's voice cracked, "your wife... she's critical." A pause, then a sweet, poisonous giggle. Seraphina Miller. "Liam is in the shower," Seraphina's voice purred. "Stop calling, Skye. It's pathetic. Faking a medical emergency on our anniversary? Even for you, that's low." Then, Liam's bored voice: "If she dies, call the funeral home. I have a meeting in the morning." Click. The line went dead. A second later, so did Skye. The darkness that followed was absolute, suffocating, a black ocean crushing her lungs. She screamed into the void, a silent, agonizing wail of regret for loving a man who saw her as a nuisance, for dying without ever truly living. Until she died, she didn't understand. Why was her life so tragically wasted? Why did her husband, the man she loved, abandon her so cruelly? The injustice of it all burned hotter than the fever in her body. Then, the air rushed back in. Skye gasped, her body convulsing violently on the mattress. Her eyes flew open, wide and terrified, staring blindly into the darkness. Her trembling hand reached for her phone. May 12th. Five years ago. She was back.

I stood at my mother’s open grave in the freezing rain, my heels sinking into the mud. The space beside me was empty. My husband, Hilliard Holloway, had promised to cherish me in bad times, but apparently, burying my mother didn't fit into his busy schedule. While the priest’s voice droned on, a news alert lit up my phone. It was a livestream of the Metropolitan Charity Gala. There was Hilliard, looking impeccable in a custom tuxedo, with his ex-girlfriend Charla English draped over his arm. The headline read: "Holloway & English: A Power Couple Reunited?" When he finally returned to our penthouse at 2 AM, he didn't come alone—he brought Charla with him. He claimed she’d had a "medical emergency" at the gala and couldn't be left alone. I found a Tiffany diamond necklace on our coffee table meant for her birthday, and a smudge of her signature red lipstick on his collar. When I confronted him, he simply told me to stop being "hysterical" and "acting like a child." He had no idea I was seven months pregnant with his child. He thought so little of my grief that he didn't even bother to craft a convincing lie, laughing with his mistress in our home while I sat in the dark with a shattered heart and a secret life growing inside me. "He doesn't deserve us," I whispered to the darkness. I didn't scream or beg. I simply left a folder on his desk containing signed divorce papers and a forged medical report for a terminated pregnancy. I disappeared into the night, letting him believe he had successfully killed his own legacy through his neglect. Five years later, Hilliard walked into "The Vault," the city's most exclusive underground auction, looking for a broker to manage his estate. He didn't recognize me behind my Venetian mask, but he couldn't ignore the neon pink graffiti on his armored Maybach that read "DEADBEAT." He had no clue that the three brilliant triplets currently hacking his security system were the very children he thought had been erased years ago. This time, I wasn't just a wife in the way; I was the one holding all the cards.

For two years, I was the invisible force behind tech billionaire Kieran Douglas, convinced that our "private" romance was his way of protecting us from the tabloid spotlight. I managed his mergers, warmed his bed, and waited for a future that didn't exist. The illusion shattered at 6:00 AM when a Page Six alert debuted Kieran’s "real" romance with socialite Aspen Schneider. Before I could even process the betrayal, Kieran sent me a cold, professional text: "Order flowers for Aspen. Pink peonies. Her favorite." When I tried to walk away, my own mother called me a disgrace and threatened to lock my inheritance forever unless I married a sixty-year-old businessman to save her failing estate. At a high-society gala that same night, Aspen intentionally crushed my burned hand in front of the cameras, while Kieran stood by and dismissed me as a "mediocre assistant" who had overstayed her welcome. I stood in the cold New York rain, drenched in champagne and humiliation, realizing that every sacrifice I made for Kieran was a joke. I was a ghost in a penthouse that was never mine, discarded the moment his "soulmate" returned. To the world, I was just a placeholder whose time had run out. But Kieran forgot one thing: my father’s multi-million dollar trust fund unlocks the moment I legally marry. I didn't need love; I needed a signature and a shield. I walked into a discreet law firm and signed a marriage contract with a man I believed was the city’s most notorious, scandal-ridden playboy. I thought I was marrying a degenerate "beard" to buy my freedom and secure my revenge. I didn't realize the man who signed that paper wasn't a playboy at all, but Gaston Collins—the most powerful and dangerous man on Wall Street—and he had no intention of letting our fake marriage stay fake.

I had just survived a private jet crash, my body a map of violet bruises and my lungs still burning from the smoke. I woke up in a sterile hospital room, gasping for my husband's name, only to realize I was completely alone. While I was bleeding in a ditch, my husband, Adam, was on the news smiling at a ribbon-cutting ceremony. When I tracked him down at the hospital's VIP wing, I didn't find a grieving husband. I found him tenderly cradling his ex-girlfriend, Casie, in his arms, his face lit with a protective warmth he had never shown me as he carried her into the maternity ward. The betrayal went deeper than I could have imagined. Adam admitted the affair started on our third anniversary-the night he claimed he was stuck in London for a merger. Back at the manor, his mother had already filled our planned nursery with pink boutique bags for Casie's "little princess." When I demanded a divorce, Adam didn't flinch. He sneered that I was "gutter trash" from a foster home and that I'd be begging on the streets within a week. To trap me, he froze my bank accounts, cancelled my flight, and even called the police to report me for "theft" of company property. I realized then that I wasn't his partner; I was a charity case he had plucked from obscurity to manage his life. To the Hortons, I was just a servant who happened to sleep in the master bedroom, a "resilient" woman meant to endure his abuse in silence while the whole world laughed at the joke that was my marriage. Adam thought stripping me of his money would make me crawl back to him. He was wrong. I walked into his executive suite during his biggest deal of the year and poured a mug of sludge over his original ten-million-dollar contracts. Then, right in front of his board and his mistress, I stripped off every designer thread he had ever paid for until I was standing in nothing but my own silk camisole. "You can keep the clothes, Adam. They're as hollow as you are." I grabbed my passport, turned my back on his billions, and walked out of that glass tower barefoot, bleeding, and finally free.
