Love in Bondage Chapter 1 Wake me up

EXCERPT FROM STORY.

Now throw them all back on the ground and do your job." Lanre ordered. He did as they said. The oranges went rolling and bouncing all round the alley and then he bent and began to pick them up again. 23, he counted them.

"Again!"

He did. It remained just one more time, one more time and he would be free.

"Again!"

He threw them back and picked again, the last time.

"Run! Run and don't look back!"

He ran out but he was smarter. He knew the direction the orange seller had run and he went the opposite way.

Just as he began crossing the road, the last orange landed on his head. It had been 24. He had made the mistake, the costly mistake the orange seller had also made. He looked back too, another mistake and he caught the evil smirk Lanre threw him just as the car, the red sports car, hit him and ran over him. He died but the rest of the events played out anyway.

The oranges went flying, the tray with it. His blood splattered all over and then people gathered. The police siren came minutes later and his body was packaged and taken to the morgue, declared dead by them without the doctor's confirmation.

The unfortunate death of the orange seller, the newspaper read the next day.

Poor him, people commented.

Lanre and Obi drank wine, cross as they read the news of his death.

He hadn't been smarter after all.

CHAPTER ONE

Pleasure is found in different ways; usual and unusual. The need to please ourselves even to the detriment of others. That selfish part of us humans that desires our good before others cannot be ignored. But being acknowledged doesn't take the problem away.

And so,these children; all teenagers, with the exception of one, nicknamed the bully; fell into the hands of those who seek this evil pleasure.

-THE BONDAGE TRILOGY

"Cameras are ready, sir Auctor."

Sir Auctor looked up from the computer system he was operating, his eyes sharp and bright.

"Yes,Mr Sam?" he questioned in his barely audible voice.

"The cameras are ready, sir." Mr Sam repeated.

Sir Auctor's face broke into a wide grin, an unusual occurrence that stunned Mr Sam.

"Wonderful!" he exclaimed, clasping his hands together.

"Just wonderful!" he repeated, staring at the computer's screen as a live footage began playing.

"And sir...Sir Auctor..." Mr Sam called but Sir Auctor as expected was already engrossed in his activity, the rest of the outside world tuned out.

"If you need anything, sir..." Mr Sam offered helplessly, shaking his head as he turned away.

"Oh well" Mr Sam muttered as he walked away, "Another story begins"

**********************

"Wake up." a voice whispered.

"Wake up...wake up...wake up." It kept resounding in her head. She opened her eyes and saw a figure staring down at her, she blinked to clear her vision and it was her mother, smiling.

"Mum?" She called surprised. She looked around, she was lying on her bed in her room. She looked back to her mother.

"You have to wake up." her mother whispered, leaned down and pecked her forehead. She closed her eyes, feeling, then opened them again.

She was lying on the floor in the middle of a lonely road and her sister was staring down at her with a frown on her face.

"Ify, you have to wake up.You've been sleeping for too long." her sister scolded, arms folded.

"What?"she asked, all confused, sitting up.

She was now sitting in front of a table facing her private tutor. He was laughing, looking at something on his phone. He suddenly looked at her, face blank.

"Wake up."

**********************

Her eyes shot open. Someone was shaking her vigorously, there was shouting and sounds of scuffling all around her.

"Finally! You're awake!"

She looked at the person who spoke; it was Aisha, her friend and fellow captive. She sat up, rubbing her eyes.

"What's going on?" she asked looking around.

"What's going on is that the food was finished while I was busy trying to wake you!" Aisha exclaimed in her thick northern accent.

"Food?" she asked confused. She then took in her surroundings and remembered where she was. Locked in a dirty stinking room along with 19 other captives in an unknown building.

They had all been kidnapped and were now being held hostage to eventually either be killed for rituals or sold to the highest bidder.

There were both boys and girls in the room, 8 boys and 12 girls. Day by day, the number increased and decreased respectively as more people were brought in and more were taken out. They were all teenagers between the ages of 14 to 19. The only exception, a boy that was brought in 16 days before, he was 20 and also a big bully.

She had been there for twelve days and she still didn't know her fate. Aisha, who was 18, was one of the oldest captives; she had been there for 60 days. Naeto, also her friend, 17; had been present for 28 days. She was 16.

"Yes food! Food that we eat to survive! You know what that is?" Aisha sarcastically asked, hands on hips. Ify rolled her eyes, hitting her lightly on the arm as she sat up.

"Of course. I know what it is. Where's Naeto?" she asked.

"Scavenging for food for us and... there he is." Aisha announced and she followed Aisha's gaze to see him with a plate surely filled with Akara, bean cake(an African meal) the, and a cup surely filled with water, held tightly to himself; dodging attackers and hurrying towards them. Aisha quickly got up to assist him, bringing the plate half filled with Akara and dropping it on the floor beside her.

She looked up at him to see him breathing heavily, his chest heaving up and down, then looked at the fresh cuts and bruises on his arms. He sat down beside her, resting his back on the wall.

"I'm sorry." she said to him. He glanced at her, closing his eyes after.

"Why?" he asked.

"For not being there to help. I wasn't awake." she apologized, looking from him to Aisha, who just sat in front of her.

Naeto opened his eyes, facing her fully"Its okay. As long as I'm with you, I'll always be there for you" he reassured, giving her a tired smile.

She looked away.

He was always so brutally honest with her; always looking her in the eye.

I was the titan of Wall Street until an indictment and an ankle monitor turned my penthouse into a gilded cage. To save face, I was forced into a marriage with Elza, a "mute" girl from the Schmidt family whom I treated as nothing more than a silent piece of furniture while my empire crumbled. The night I was poisoned at a high-society gala, a mysterious server in an oversized uniform saved my life with terrifying, clinical precision. They disappeared into the night, leaving me with a silver cufflink and a burning obsession to find the shadow who held my life in their hands. Back home, I took my frustration out on Elza, telling her she was "exhausting to look at" and "smelled like sickness" after her charity visits. Her own family treated her like a stray dog, trying to humiliate her at the next gala by dressing her in what they claimed was a cheap knockoff while whispering to the press that she was nothing but a high-end escort. "Stay out of my way," I would growl at her, never noticing the steel in her eyes. I sat at my table, watching my rivals' stocks plummet and wondering who "The Zero"—the legendary financial ghost—really was. I never suspected that the woman I ignored was the same one solving the equations that were currently burning Manhattan to the ground. The injustice peaked when Elza stood before the city's elite, not as a victim, but as a queen. She dropped over a hundred million dollars to buy back her family’s legacy, revealing a secret fortune that made my own empire look like pocket change. As I grabbed her wrist and saw the small red mole hidden beneath her watch, the truth hit me like a physical blow. The silent wife I had despised was the savior I had been hunting, and she was finally done playing the victim. "We have a lot to talk about, wife," I whispered, realizing I had been sleeping next to the most dangerous woman in the world.

I had just survived a private jet crash, my body a map of violet bruises and my lungs still burning from the smoke. I woke up in a sterile hospital room, gasping for my husband's name, only to realize I was completely alone. While I was bleeding in a ditch, my husband, Adam, was on the news smiling at a ribbon-cutting ceremony. When I tracked him down at the hospital's VIP wing, I didn't find a grieving husband. I found him tenderly cradling his ex-girlfriend, Casie, in his arms, his face lit with a protective warmth he had never shown me as he carried her into the maternity ward. The betrayal went deeper than I could have imagined. Adam admitted the affair started on our third anniversary-the night he claimed he was stuck in London for a merger. Back at the manor, his mother had already filled our planned nursery with pink boutique bags for Casie's "little princess." When I demanded a divorce, Adam didn't flinch. He sneered that I was "gutter trash" from a foster home and that I'd be begging on the streets within a week. To trap me, he froze my bank accounts, cancelled my flight, and even called the police to report me for "theft" of company property. I realized then that I wasn't his partner; I was a charity case he had plucked from obscurity to manage his life. To the Hortons, I was just a servant who happened to sleep in the master bedroom, a "resilient" woman meant to endure his abuse in silence while the whole world laughed at the joke that was my marriage. Adam thought stripping me of his money would make me crawl back to him. He was wrong. I walked into his executive suite during his biggest deal of the year and poured a mug of sludge over his original ten-million-dollar contracts. Then, right in front of his board and his mistress, I stripped off every designer thread he had ever paid for until I was standing in nothing but my own silk camisole. "You can keep the clothes, Adam. They're as hollow as you are." I grabbed my passport, turned my back on his billions, and walked out of that glass tower barefoot, bleeding, and finally free.

Today is October 14th, my birthday. I returned to New York after months away, dragging my suitcase through the biting wind, but the VIP pickup zone where my husband’s Maybach usually idled was empty. When I finally let myself into our Upper East Side penthouse, I didn’t find a cake or a "welcome home" banner. Instead, I found my husband, Caden, kneeling on the floor, helping our five-year-old daughter wrap a massive gift for my half-sister, Adalynn. Caden didn’t even look up when I walked in; he was too busy laughing with the girl who had already stolen my father’s legacy and was now moving in on my family. "Auntie Addie is a million times better than Mommy," my daughter Elara chirped, clutching a plush toy Caden had once forbidden me from buying for her. "Mommy is mean," she whispered loudly, while Caden just smirked, calling me a "drill sergeant" before whisking her off to Adalynn’s party without a second glance. Later that night, I saw a video Adalynn posted online where my husband and child laughed while mocking my "sensitive" nature, treating me like an inconvenient ghost in my own home. I had spent five years researching nutrition for Elara’s health and managing every detail of Caden’s empire, only to be discarded the moment I wasn't in the room. How could the man who set his safe combination to my birthday completely forget I even existed? The realization didn't break me; it turned me into ice. I didn't scream or beg for an explanation. I simply walked into the study, pulled out the divorce papers I’d drafted months ago, and took a black marker to the terms. I crossed out the alimony, the mansion, and even the custody clause—if they wanted a life without me, I would give them exactly what they asked for. I left my four-carat diamond ring on the console table and walked out into the rain with nothing but a heavily encrypted hard drive. The submissive Mrs. Holloway was gone, and "Ghost," the most lethal architect in the tech world, was finally back online to take back everything they thought I’d forgotten.

I went to the City Clerk’s office for a routine copy of my marriage license to finalize a trust fund audit. I expected a simple piece of paper, but the clerk’s pitying look told me my entire life was a lie. "The license was never finalized, Ms. Oliver. In the eyes of the state, you are single." The three-hundred-guest wedding at the Plaza and the Vogue features meant nothing. My husband, Gray Cooley, had intentionally filed the documents with a "procedural defect" so he could discard me without a legal divorce. Moments later, an iCloud invite titled "Our Little Secret" popped up on my screen. It was a photo of my best friend, Brylee, holding a positive pregnancy test at our Hamptons estate. Gray’s text to her was the final blow: "Happy anniversary, babe. This baby is the best gift. Once the trust unlocks today, we’re done with the charade." I soon discovered they were even stealing my career, reassigning my architectural masterpiece to Brylee while preparing my eviction notice. Gray's mother called me a "barren mule" in a leaked recording, mocking the infertility I suffered after saving Gray’s life in a construction accident. I wasn't a wife; I was a three-year placeholder used to secure his inheritance. How could the man I bled for treat me like a disposable prop? How could my best friend carry his child while pretending to comfort me through my darkest moments? The betrayal burned until it turned into a cold, hard stone of fury. I didn't cry. Instead, I walked into the penthouse of the Barretts, the Cooleys' most powerful rivals. I signed a marriage contract with Kane Barrett, the man the tabloids called the "Beast of Wall Street." "I want a wedding," I told his father, my voice steady and lethal. "Bigger than the one I had with Gray." If they wanted me gone, they would have to watch me become the woman who owns their world.
